I use Koverartist to produce and print CD/dvd jewel case inserts. It is a simple program, easy to use and effective. Recently I've needed to produce case covers for audio cassettes. I realise that this is somewhat old fashioned an activity. Has anyone come across a simple program which will suit my purpose?

I do 'mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt'. Only an example. When I mount image, ls outputs john_smi.txt. So it has shorten to 8.3 and translated ' ' into '_'. This is in accordance with the manual, although it doesn't say the conversion will be done.

However, as it did not reject the file name, it should have converted it to all upper case, it seems to me. And -iso-level 2|3 does the same thing.

Using gparted, version 0.5.1 to make 7 partitions on my hard drive. partitions 1, 2,and 3 are normal.Partition 4 is an extended partition. Within this extended partition, I have partitions 5, 6, and 7. 5 and 6 for my Linux distributions, with 7 being the linux-swap. Here's my question. I have unallocated spaces between 5 and 6, each 1 MB in size. I have been using Ubuntu since 2007 and I have never seen this before. I am wondering if I inadvertently clicked a box during installation, or is this something new in gparted.

Even though I have set 'fps' to 30, I only get between 14 and 16. Several thread on the internet tell me that UVC in only capable of 15 fps in 640x480 mode.
Is there some way to make the camera (ID 046d:0809 Logitech, Inc.) work as something OTHER than a UVC type camera? Is there a code snippet to work with?
I have no problems with getting the camera to work with any of the apps in the Ubuntu reposit. The script above records video and audio great, just not 30 fps.
The video I will be splicing into will be shot with a video recorder and windows software. If it is a USB hookup, will it have the same constraints of UVC at 15 fps. IIRC, it is the USB that has the compression problem that limit it to 15 fps.
I am having no joy at all trying to produce a DVD with menus using Slackware. I have spent the best part of a day and a half, to no avail, and have had to revert to using either Ubuntu or Win XP under virtualbox just to achieve this.
Have tried using the following front ends to dvdauthor:
Dvdstyler
Devede
2mandvd
Kdenlive (dvdwizard)
Varsha
I am able to produce a DVD with any of them, but without menus. As soon as I try anything to get a menu, all that happens is the menu is produced, but the 'clickable' buttons do nothing, meaning I am unable to navigate away from the menu. Using Dvdstyler under Ubuntu, and follwing exactly the same procedure to produce the DVD works as expected, as does any of the myriad of progs available for Win XP.
I saw the article in Suspend to disk - openSUSE and I decided to test s2disk on my VAIO VGN-AR41L (laptop) using ext4 system (which supports journaling). I used the button of the KDE4 to initiate the process of suspend to disk. The process of storing the image and shutdown the computer worked. But the reverse process didn't work. I also saw in the article that there is a workaround for the journaled systems. Instead of doing this can I switch off journaling on ext4 without loss of data? And if yes, how can this be done?

I encounter a problem with my program recently, i get the core dump of my
program, and it produced by a segill signal, i wondered that how my program can happen to generate this error, and i never write a "0 divide"
I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

View 2 Replies View Relatedve read some stuff regarding problems with virtual consoles not appearing for some graphics settings, but I think this problem is different.Just a few days ago I had no problem using ctrl-alt-f6 (for example) to get to a virtual console outside of the normal X environment. That no longer works. Nothing happens, no distorted screen, I'm just stuck in the normal X session that comes up as if I did nothing. I didn't make any configuration changes, though I suppose some update could have caused it?I may have read that this is some problem in grub2? If so, is there a way I can get around it without trying to switch back to grub1? I'd rather not mess too much with the bootloaders if I don't have to

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

I downloaded Manslide, I spent about two hours working on it doing the slides but at end of the render process it do not produce any output. Then I discover that Manslide now is SMILE that is in Packman repo. I spent another two hours making again my slideshow but at the end it didn't produce the output video file. I have all the dependencies, I switch all of them to Packman rpms.

This project is most probably dead, homepage is 404 and it's practically impossible to get any information about this program. Therefore it took me 3 exhausting hours to get it working Here is the solution: There is a missing fake.pl file, so you have to copy it to the right place, which is /opt/smile (for OpenSuse, for other distros it could be elsewhere, for example /usr/bin). You can obtain this file from the source package but as it is very small I post it right here to spare your time:

So create a new file /opt/smile/fake.pl and copy these lines into it. Btw. the original file from the source doesn't have the first line, but according to the tip from different forum it is supposed to be here. If Smile still doesn't work you might try to add some extra permission to fake.pl, something like chmod 755 /opt/smile/fake. And if it is still not working check the log file ~/.logsmile.txt This file is by the way also impossible to find, there is no sign of him in the documentation.

I don't need to be accurate enough to match lip movement. I can generate the video frames with POVray, and I can make a movie out of the frames with ffmpeg. I have a microphone which plugs into my sound card, but I don't know how to record my voice, nor how to determine the time used at different points in the narration, nor how to add the audio to the video to produce a narrated movie. My OS is Debian Linux running Gnome.

I successfully completed the installation procedures. however, it does not produce sound when loggin in and playing music files. I gone to look if the settings where put to mute, but they were not. I tried installing a MS Vista in the other partition and the sound worked.
