Software :: Safe To Force Unmount An NFS Share After Calling Sync?

Mar 26, 2011

I have to force umount my NFS shares to get my computer to suspend. And I suspend it regularly. I wrote this script:

Code:
sync
sudo umount -a -t NFS -f
sudo pm-suspend
sudo mount -a -t NFS

Is that safe to run regularly?

Ubuntu One :: Way To Manually Force Sync Files

Jan 3, 2010

Is there a way to manually force sync files? My files have not synced over a day and there's an "unsynchronized" emblem appearing over the Ubuntu One folder. The web interface for Ubuntu doesn't display the proper total size of Ubuntu One nor the current files/folders.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Cannot Unmount SMB Share

Sep 18, 2009

I have a SMB share, mounted on a Centos 5 server from a local Win 2003 server, that I cannot unmount (I have to reboot to successfully unmount it)

centos 5 version is 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5
samba version is: 3.0.33-3.7.el5_3.1

That share is mounted by a script called every night to perform an rsync backup to another remote Centos 5 server:

/bin/mount -t cifs -o ro,credentials=/etc/samba smbmount.credentials,uid='ad_domainuser',gid='ad_domaingroup' //win2003server/share /mnt/arch/ >> $LOGFILE 2>&1

And it is (should be...) unmounted at the end of the script: /bin/umount /mnt/arch/

When the script tries to unmount the share, this error is returned: unmount error 16 = Device or resource busy Refer to the umount.cifs(8) manual page (man 8 umount.cifs)

When I try to manually unmount the share from console (even after serveral hours), no error is given but the share does not unmount.

CentOS 5 :: NFS Share Refuses To Unmount

Dec 20, 2009

I have an NFS4 and Kerberos server on the same machine running a CentOS Plus 5.4 kernel (due the Redhat NFS kernel bug). On shutdown the command to mountd produces a [FAILED] response and the NFS share refuses to unmount, complaining that it is busy. This occurs even if no client machines have been started. i.e. with all machines stopped, start the server only (no clients) then shutdown the server - produces the same result.

Immediately after the server has been started, query the nfs daemon:
# service nfs status
produces normal output, except for:
# rpc.mountd is stopped

Ubuntu Servers :: Mounted NFS Share Will Not Unmount?

Jan 8, 2010

We have a server running Hardy. I configured it as an NFS client and mounted a share. The NFS server is remote and accessed through TCP only (no UDP allowed through the firewall). Now I've mounted it, though, I can't unmount it!

Code:
david@scatha $ mount | grep nfs
example.com:/home/david on /mnt/tmp type nfs (rw,tcp,addr=123.123.123.123)
Now when I try to unmount it:

Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Share Requires Unmount/Remount After Restart

Aug 4, 2011

I recently built a computer for a friend that is only going to be used to run a network share.

The problem I am running into is that whenever the computer restarts the share, while visible, cannot be accessed by the two Windows 7 laptops in the house.

If I run 'sudo umount /media/storage' followed by 'sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/storage' the once visible but inaccessible share is now accessible.

I do not understand why this would be. I have added the line 'usershare owner only = false' to my smb.conf file.

Ubuntu Servers :: Sync Directory To Remote Nfs Share?

Jul 21, 2011

I have a folder on my workstation and I currently have an identical copy on my nas mounted via ifs (I'll be using this as my backup). The folder contains many virtual machines that are usually powered off. I like to think of the copy on my nas as a backup. The benefit of having two copies of my vms is that if I boot up too many on my workstation and the drive starts to cause a bottle neck I can simply boot the vms from the nas instead. (gigabit ethernet)

I would like changes I make to my local copy to be reflected on the nas.

I want this to happen In the background, I.e. If I turn off my machine it shouldnt cause a problem, the next time I boot up it just re checks the files and continues syncing the 2 directories.

What is the best tool for the job? Rsync?

I've never really used it before so a few pointers to get me going would be great, or obviously other recommendations if there are any.

CentOS 5 :: Rsync To A Samba Share Ignores Force Create Mode?

Jan 12, 2011

Have an issue with my CentOS server. I have a fully updated Centos 5.5 server and I have samba set up to serve shares to a couple of groups in my home office. I have it set up to force user/group and force directory create mode 770 and force file mode of 770. This set up works perfectly well for normal connections to the server; no matter who connects, all files and directories are owned by the specified users/group and create modes I specify. The problem is when I try to rsync some files to the same shares. When I do this, rsync ignores the directory/file forced create mode. It will honor the user/group, however. As an example, if I create a directory on one machine connected to the samba share, I get the following:

drwxr-x--- 3 nobody users 0 2010-12-26 20:42 Misc Pics

Ubuntu :: File-Sync With Unison To A Password-protected Share?

May 11, 2011

Been thinking about a new backup-strategy for my family and me. In our house is an Ubuntu Server (10.10) and NAS (Zyxel NSA210). Now I thought I'd create a Cron Tab entry on all machines which will sync specific folders automatically to either the NAS or a specific backup drive in the server. So now the question is: "How do I do that without seriously compromising each family members privacy by making their backed up files available to everyone in the house?" So in essence I'd like to sync/back up the files to a password protected share for each family member. But this process should still be done automatically every few minutes or so without them having to enter any password at all as their specific password is stored locally.

OpenSUSE :: Sync Pim Data With Palm Treo 680 Via Bluetooth - Jpilot Sync Suddenly Broken

Oct 24, 2010

I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.

The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Sync Audio On Already Badly Out Of Sync Video?

Jul 9, 2011

Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?

It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner?What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic?No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio.So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place?No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.

I don't want to Eject it. I have a clever idea! I will add Mount Manager to the panel. Mount Manager should be called Eject Manager because that is all it does!! Even Krusader seems to have lost its ability to unmount a device.

Programming :: Tty Is Closed Without Calling Close(?)

Feb 17, 2011

I have found a weird behaviour on a linux application. A tty seems to get closed without calling close. The program is (very simplified) as follows:

Process 1:
configure_signals()
read_config_files()
create_threads()
wait(forever)

Thread 1:
fd=open(/dev/ttyXX)
usleep(a while)
config(fd)

I have spent quite a lot of time on this problem. It seems like the file is sometimes closed when reaching config(fd), but removing the usleep(a while) seems to remove the problem.
