Software :: Make Openvas-manager Start And How To Use Openvas-cli
Apr 23, 2010
I'm having some problems making sense of openvas-manager and openvas-cli. I've installed both of the packages from source and everything seems to have worked thus far. The problem is how to make openvas-manager start and how to use openvas-cli. The openvas-homepage didn't provide with any good examples on how to do that? As far as I can understand the steps are:
1) Openvas-scanner
2) Openvas-manager (Openvasmd needs to create a database?)
3) Openvas-cli (omp to point on the openvasmd address?)

I'm in the process of installing OpenVAS Manager on 10.04, but when I try to start it nothing happens, no message, nothing. That's quite frustrating, to say the least. And I can't seem to find anyting on the matter when googling.

I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !
DHCPD.CONF
ddns-update-style interim;
ignore client-updates;

It seems that my network manager may be running in root mode...
For instance in network connections, edit and delete are greyed out. if i click add, i am unable to enter any details. if i run nm-connection-editor as root i am able to make changes.
How can i set it that the normal user can make changes? [managed is set to true in the conf file]

I have, in fact, stated my problem correctly. I want to make Nautilus as the default File Manager in KDE. I use GNOME on other computers, and don't like the feel of the KDE file manager on my PC. I looked online but most "solutions" are for the other way round and in either case, didn't work for me.
I tried changing the 'inode/directory' file association to Nautilus but it didn't change anything. What can I do ? (I have GNOME as a DE here too .. But I would like to know how to change the association in KDE as well)

My first post on openSUSE, since migrating from Ubuntu (didn't like Unity!). I've installed the virtualization packages from YAST2 and when I attempt to run virt-manager, it crashes. The error is
Code: could not import gobject (could not find _PyGObject_API object) I've searched both these forums and via a general Google and although I've found posts, all of them are apparently resolved - but not mine.
My laptop is fully up to date and running Gnome 3 on openSUSE 11.4.Has anyone else come across this lately?

I just upgraded Ubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04 and am having a problem with the window manager. When I log in and after it applies my background and the panels load, the window manager doesn't start right away, so if I open a program it won't have a top to it. I have to turn on Compiz, which turns off every time I turn on the computer. If I set it to normal, it searches for drivers and then the tops of windows appear. I have had to do this every time since I upgraded. I would do a clean install, but I have no way to back up my data since I have so much. How can I fix this?

I have a memory leak, thus, I need to run memcheck-memtest86. I run ubuntu 10.04 lucid and my GRUB is 2 (GNU GRUB 1.98-1ubuntu7). I have been told that to run it I have to, when booting the system, select it from the GRUB menu and use the OS as I usually do so memtest can show the leaks that annoy me.
Problems so far: in system-administration-startup-manager I can only see 2 tabs (boot options and advanced), while in the following webpage [URL] there are another 2 that I cannot see in my machine (security and advanced). Why does that happen? The idea is that I can configurate the boot menu with the startup manager, right? with the screenshot that I have uploaded, I have much less options. Again, why is that?

The process appears in System Monitor as a Zombie, under Memory shows N/A and under Waiting Channel it shows "do_exit".Launching mintinstall from the terminal displays the following:

I am a bit new to this - Ubuntu is ok with a gui but I am struggling with commands and I think I may have disabled Network Manager. The icon is there in the notification area but when I try to connect it says NetworkManager is not running and when I rightclick the icon the "enable networking" box is greyed out. It is on a desktop which now has no net access so I have not tried to remove and reinstall network-manager.

I finally waded through all the graphical issues that have been reported when upgrading 10.10 to 11.04. I've managed to get the nvidia drivers installed and working (even though Jockey still reports that nvidia-current is installed but has not been activated).Whenever I log into an Ubuntu Classic session, GNOME defaults to using metacity as the window manager. In order to get my compiz effects working, I have to open a terminal and do "compiz --replace". After that, everything appears to work normally including on screen notifications, the cube, etc.
I've though of including a "compiz --replace" script in Startup Applications as a possible workaround, but is there a better way to handle not having compiz started by default? Is there something in gconf-editor or similar that I can edit in order to make GNOME default to using compiz?

I have Soad Linux installed. E17 environment really works fast for me. But I have a question, how do the one make window manager to be more feature filled? For example other e17 Linux distributions has a full path of file directory on the window tools frame so you can simply click on any directory from this list like "Home/Media/Movies" and you are brought back to the selected directory (Home for example). I managed to find how to enable it, but that section of windows manager doesn;t seem to work well, it is too small horizontally so in order to see other directories the one has to click small arrows and scroll. Resizing doens;t allow to make it bigger, how could I fix that?.
Also how do the one make the mounted mediums list on the left, similar like in gnome windows manager? I found a control panel which lets you choose between KDE, Gnome and LXDE (I think) for e17 But changing between them doesn't seem to change anything. Yes I rebooted the pc so it could take the effect, but no changes were made.

i am working on developing a very minimalistic os based on a striped down linux kernel and for the user interface ive come up with a bunch of custom graphics and such and then i was confronted with the problem of what window manager do i use....
basically my concept for the ui is windows that only open fullscreen (so no resizing, minimizing, moving) btu when you want to change threw applications it displays everything in a coverflow style and im planning on using the Qt toolkit for the interface itself and basing alot of it on web technology's.

I have just switched from Ubuntu to Debian, so on the whole I can easily figure out how to use Debian. Scim however, is giving me a problem. I have installed scim with the package manager, but cannot start it.With Ubuntu is was ctrl+space bar, but so far I have not found any key combinations that work. In the preferences menu there is an entry for scim set-up, but it is only an information page.AlthoughI have been using Linux for a few years, I am not much of a terminal user, so I have not even thought of going that route for fear of wrecking my new system.Considering how easy it was to use scim on Ubuntu, which is a Debian derivative, it should not be difficult to get it working. (I am not a computer wizard. In fact, before switching to Linux I hated the machines.

The package manager runs when a user clicks on a .rpm file automatically. I tried clicking on it from a normal user dolphin window and it opened up but since it can't install to a /something directory, I had to run it as su. So I try to open dolphin as su and then click on my file. I see the package editor starting up (bouncy icon and a space in the panel) but it never actually pops up a window. Now when I click on the file from either user this is happening. What's going on? Is this a bug?
**update, it popped up from normal user after like 10x attempts and it said that the repository already exists and this is an unexpected error. what does that mean? what errors are "expected"?
