switched from OpenSUSE to Ubuntu, largely to make things consistent with my netbook running Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix I replaced the / partition but left /home intact I was wondering how to make Thunderbird use the profile already established rather than set up a new one?
copied /home/user/.thunderbird directory to /home/user/.mozilla-thunderbird
i have done this once before, but recently suffered corrupted profile.i have a dual-boot system, windows vista and ubuntu on one physical disc (hdo, seperate partitions). i have another physical disc (hd1) that has an ntfs partition, and on it are stored my firefox and thunderbird profiles.when i use firefox and thunderbird in windows, both profiles are on the hd1 drive (email, bookmarks, etc.)in ubuntu, i have the ntfs partition on hd1 automount, so that i can use it.
in ubuntu: i have made thunderbird share the thunderbird profile on this partition (hd1), but recently, trying to set up the profilemanager to access this has caused me problems and while starting thunderbird, i see all my emails for a brief second (in the inbox), and then they disappear.i am using the latest thunderbird from the unmaintained repositories (3.0.5), but i don't have a problem reverting back to an older version...i use it for gmail, so the folder i point profilemanager to is:/media/sdb1/Mozilla Profiles/Thunderbird/Mail/pop. gmail.com/Mail/pop.gmail.com
this is where my inbox, sent items are stored.can anyone give advice on how to get this profile to work well with thunderbird in ubuntu ? i have read the mozillazine help pages, but it's not specific to my situation because i am trying to share a profile i have moved to a seperate location ..
I've recently re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 since I had some problems upgrading from 10.04. The pc is only used to read e-mail och browse the web, so I saved the profile folder from the old installation and put it in the .thunderbird folder in the new one. I also replaced the automatically generated profile name in the profiles.ini file, with the profile name from the old installation. I used this method once before, and back then I just started Thunderbird and it found all mails and contacts and so on. This time, it only shows the "Mail Account Setup" dialog box, in which you're supposed to fill in your accout information.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have switched to openbox from Gnome and would now like to stop using Metacity altogether. When I was using metacity I had both a control theme (e.g. gtk theme) and fonts set up how I liked them in gnome-appearance-proporties. When Openbox starts, it gets my window borders up properly (ofc.) but fails to render my fonts properly and uses the wrong gtk theme. I can't find anywhere to specify which gtk theme to use or what method to render my text with. After Openbox is finished doing it's thing, and I run gnome-apperance-properties manually, it will automatically set everything to it's proper value, but I don't want to have to do this as it takes several seconds to preform and I'd rather not have it jury rigged like this.

My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.

I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and thunderbird which was previously my default mailer switched to evolution. How do I switch it back? The thunderbird startup option to make it default doesn't seem to work. The Gnome preferred applications widget doesn't list thunderbird or allow another program to be added.

But most of them do not get deleted out of the Trash. I have had the same address since about 1997 and there are certain spams I know I will get every day no matter what and I would like them gone for good. I know I could just Empty the Trash but I sometimes search for things in there, and it has come in handy having all those emails.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had been having problems with Thunderbird 3, so decided to install 2.0.0.24. I carefully cleaned out all the 3.0 files. So I downloaded it. Opened it with tar and can see that there is now a Thunderbird folder with all inside of it. But how do I make it run?
If I use "whereis" to locate the file to make it run, it says it is in /etc but i sure can't see it. There is a thunderbird file that seems to be the one in the thunderbird folder, but double clicking and mark "run" does nothing.
I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
We are having an issue with our application where once we start making a few hundred connections to our Linux server, our connections are staying in the established state. I've seen packets coming to my computer through a DD-WRTv24s2 gateway above port 32K several times. I have iptables (using fwbuilder locally) both places. My desktop stops the packets. But I'm guessing the problem is as I described in the title for this post. Yes?If you ESTABLISH a connection to some webpage, and you just accept ESTABLISHED or RELATED datagrams in rule 1 of your iptables, what will keep incoming TCP from that (presumably nefarious) site from going straight to your desktop like the building firewall isn't there?? If the site wants to connect to you above 32k, or portscan you, its RELATED correct? They know your IP. You've ESTABLISHED a connection.If my guess is correct, it would seem wiser to NEVER use these together. Better to ACCEPT all ESTABLISHED. And if something is RELATED, then ACCEPT it only if its the data connection on FTP or individually by service or protocol.

I have a wired internet connection which works fine with my windows 7. View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrently I use openSUSE but the 6 months release cycle is starting to bug me a bit so yesterday I have tried Debian Testing daily snapshot created on 20-11-2010, using KDE desktop (I am a KDE fun). All goes well until I try to make a pppoe using KDE's module network manager.
I created the pppoe connection with user and password but I got 2 problems:
- After I have created the connection it doesn't appear along with "Auto eth0" above the button manage connections.
- The pppoe connection is not established (both password and username are correct).
I know that I could use pppoeconf or ceni for that matter, but I am new to debian as I where new to openSUSE 4 years ago and I am still learning, so please don't tell to use them I just want to know if there's a way to use network manager from kde 4.4.5 to establish a pppoe connection (you could name it the GUI way, no worries I like using the console as well). Under openSUSE I have a program called qinternet that helps me with pppoe connection is there something similar under Debian?
I am attempting a simple two computer office network using Samba. When attempting to access the shared director, a screen pops in Linux and Windows requesting a user name and password. I haven't established a user name or password. Is there a way to allow any computer on the network to access the shared file without a user name and password?The following is the result of:

Running 11.4 and a wifi link to lan, I set up an NFS share with NAS exactly as I had with 11.3.I am now locked out of my system as when I try and boot, the boot process stalls waiting for NFS.Of course there is no wifi link at this stage in the boot process so I am stuffed.There must have been something in the shutting down process which stopped this in 11.3? I have tried safe mode boot but still no luck. Please could somebody help me get past this so I can boot up and then delete the NFS share until there is a fix?How can I look at the boot log, assuming I can ever boot the system again? In addition to the line showing the above NFS problem, there is another long error message which I want to post here for advice. There used to be a log access button somewhere, I thought in Yast but can't see it now.
