Software :: Finding A Way To Print Homework From Work?

I am working on finding a way to print my homework from work. This place is strict on security but cant seem to figure out how to block ssl to my home box. So with homework i cannot access a printer here at work so i just use the MS xps printer to save the files and then ftp them to my box. Then i print from the command line. Just wondering if there is a way to convert a xps file to something else that i can print via ghostscript or something.

Any one use octave while taking a matlab class? I am currently in MATLAB but cant offord the software and there are no trials of it. The studernt edition is still expensive and i need to save money. I have been going in during math class to do matlab homework but i cant keep skipping math since i am a mechanical engineer.

This is about the 3rd or 4th year that I have tried to fill in my Federal tax return on the IRS website using Ubuntu/Firefox/pdf program(s). Still to this day the PDF functions found available (or should I say unavailable) (whether using either EVINCE or ACROREAD) for this O/S will not properly function in allowing you to CONSISTENTLY complete a PDF IRS form on their website, print and then save that completed IRS form to the hard drive of your computer. This is sort of ridiculous! Yes, I have report this as a bug NUMEROUS times and it is still not fixed.

Though I have to deal with a lot of new issues with respect to 11.04, I have a specific problem that I need to solve quickly. When I try to print to a pdf-file from a ps-file using Document Viewer, it appears a box that says:
"Failed to print document
Printing is not supported on this printer."

I was always able to print with my HP OfficeJet 700 printer in Linux, but all of a sudden when I need to print something important, it doesn't work?! It says the print job stopped. It only printed 1/4 of 1/4 of what I needed to print. It has the correct print settings, etc... but I can't print?! Please help. It was able to print the test page before, but now even that won't print. Even CUPS is having problems connecting to the server. Printing in Windows has the same problem.

I am looking for a wireless n card that will work "out of the box" on Fedora 14. I have a wireless card that i have to compile the drivers, the problem is getting the packages that are needed to compile, without internet. so does anyone know of a card like this. (has to be usb because i do not have a free pci slot)

Is there any other program that will work with the taskbar applet other than gwibber? I tried using it, but the interface seems really vague to me and drives me nuts. At the same time, the taskbar applet (showing up under the mail icon), makes it much more integrated than just installing a random standalone application.

I need to be able to open an openGL based piece of software remotely (like Maya or 3D Studio Max, for example). The server will be a linux machine (CentOS, currently, fwiw), but the client should be able to run on at least Linux and Windows. This will happen over the internet as opposed to over a LAN.
So far, I've tried
- "NoMachine NX" which is pretty good, but it seems to have some issues with GL. Maybe this can be fixed in xorg on the server (disabling overlays or something like that)? not sure.
- HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) which works fairly well with Cent & Windows, though is sometimes a little slow. It also doesn't seem to be happy on Ubuntu, which is a pretty big bummer. It's also a bummer that it's somewhat expensive. That said, it's still the front-runner.
- VNC which was very slow.
It's imperative that it can transmit very complex rendered OpenGL properly. It's ok if it's slow to tumble/refresh, but it should be correct.

CUPS was not originally installed on my server, I have installed it but cannot print to my network printer. On my laptop, I can... they are both running the same version of Debian. What could be missing?
Here are some details...
I have two computers running the same version of Debian. One is a server with no GUI and the other is my laptop with GDM installed. My laptop (which prints with no problem) is connected via Wifi. My server is connected directly to the router via Ethernet. I cannot print from the server.
The printer is a Canon Pixma MP495 that connects to the router via Wifi. I have downloaded drivers for the printer from [url] and installed them successfully using dpkg on both computers.
Right now I have a regular text file that I am using for a test page. To print from my laptop (with success) I type:

I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.

I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

I am running 9.10. I have a HP Photosmart 7350 printer. I have it installed and printing. But the issue I am dealing with is that it will print a full page and then print a blank page..then a full page..then a blank page. Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.

Here we go, error 4,384,239,283 in Ubuntu I was trying to load a PDF and print it and only said "print to file" So I go to System >Administration>Printing, and it says "Starting Printing." at the bottom, and then goes away... Sigh, anyone knows whats going on?

I installed Fedora Core 12 over 10. I used to be able to print from the command line with:
lpr somefile.txt
But now I can't. All my HP laserjet 6p does is spit out one blank page and stops. The funny part about this is I can print anything with the same printer from Firefox and it works fine. I wish I knew exactly what command and options Firefox uses for that but I can't tell from the Firefox menus. At one time I knew the URL for accessing configurations like printers, etc., but I can't remember now.

I cannot print in Ub10.10. My printer is ON and it is connected to my computer. I went to System > Administration > Printing and:
Code: There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'failed to connect to server'. I tried also Printing trouble-shooter and it's says to choose System > Administration > Services, but I don't have Services in System > Administration I choose System Monitor and CUPS is not working. How can I start CUPS or what's wrong with printing?
