Software :: File Extractor (rar, 7z, Ect) For Part Files Compress By Winrar?

I download a lot of files that have been compressed into separate pieces by winrar, so that a 4gb file will be shown as dozen or so 93mb peices. In windows, using winrar, extracting them was rather easy but in Kubuntu whatever default program is being used throws a fit. In a perfect world I would want to get a open source alternative from synaptic, alternatively anything I can download in RPM I can eventually figure out. I want to avoid trying to get winrar working under wine.
I didnt used ubuntu till now..and now i decided to start with ubuntu and downloaded the iso file torrent from Complete Download Options List | Ubuntu named ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent...but after downloading it shows that its a winrar archive......can i do anything with this rar?
I want to package my application for linux, I use zip/tar.gz/7z/rar to do the compress in Windows.Because I do the compress in Windows, so when I extract the package in Linux, the file permission is reset.The problem is Only the tar.gz can let me extract runable files, other format (zip/7z/rar) not (the file permission is reset to 644).So my question is how to compress my files using zip/7z/rar while reset the permission to 755.
I just read in my Linux+ resources that it is not a wise idea to compress tar files with gzip if my tape drive supports compression. In addition, the resources mention that using gzip for tar files runs the risk of data lost if an error occurs with the compression.
Does anyone compress tar files for major backups/restore policies?
I want to know how to compress files to zip, rar or 7z with password using KDE or Dolphin interface and no command line. I can compress without password, I have not found an option to protect with password. What do I have to install or configure?
I currently have a bash script that runs and backs up my daily files onto a separate partition using Rsync, but I thought it would be good to use the Ubuntu-one service as an ADDITIONAL backup for really important files.
How do I compress then encrypt those files, and can I add any commands that will do this to my existing bash script?
Is there is anyway, with tar, zip, gzip, or any file compression type to compress without causing high CPU. In other words, limit how hard the CPU works to compress it? Of course I understand that this would cause the compression to take longer but time isn't too big of a concern.
i have noticed that if right click on many files types for instance iso files i don't have the option to store them in compress files at all i have one iso file now that i want to compress and split to three parts so i could upload it but as i said right click on the file don't helpbecause i don't have the option there so what can i do?
Today I tried to compress some folders containing backup files from last year. I right-clicked on the folders and selected compress as tar.gz. I let it work, and found that hours later, the folders were still compressing. How long is it supposed to take, anyway? I was trying to compress the two sets of backups simultaneously; together they're around 1.5 GB. They have many subdirectories.
I'm creating a script that creates files from svn checkout and compress them using tar.gz the script gets the repository name from command line argument i need to capture a number from the last line of the output and create a file name from it.
The svn returns output of all the file names from the repository and in the end it says: revision number xxxxx. i need to get this number and then rename the tar.gz to it. how do i save the output to a variable and get this number.
I have a compressed text file. The method of compress is unknown.I can see the file contents by using Midnight Commander without a problem but I would like to view the file just with cat. So I am trying to uncompress the file with unzip or gunzip but it does not work.How to check the method the file is compressed with? Is any way to find it with Midnight Commander?
have 6680 wav files with about 500kb size in a folder and i want to merge all of them.the size of the files altogether is 1.5GB. how i can merge them and compress them to create a mp3 or ogg file?
i am using classpath-0.98,jamvm-1.5.4 and arm9 cortex processor. so my question is after install classpath and jamvm on arm9 , i am getting around 30MB FAT file. so tell me some tips how to reduce the size of FAT file as much as possible.

I have a .txt-file with ~50.000 lines of numbers, generated by a mathematics program. From this file, I need line ~ 1.100 to line ~16.000 (these lines are always the same btw, this may make the solution easier, dunno) to be copy/pasted to another file, where the lines ~500 to ~15.000 (also, every time the same) should be overwritten by the aforementioned lines...I haven't found or come up with anything that works yet, mostly I find solutions to copy everything from one file to another but I can't find something to specifically overwrite a part of a file with part of another.
I'm using Ubuntu for about a half year. Currently version 10.10. The next problem I have with Nautilus: He have it in ListView. If I want to rename a file then the entire file is selected and not only the first part. So the file extension is also selected. I think this is a bug, whoich can be found on the Internet, but I do not find a solution. Does anyone here have a solution?
I'm trying to extract .part files. These are mac extensions similar to .rar or .zip. I need to extract a whole bunch of them simultaneously. Theyre probably registered in sequence just like .rar files. What program can I yum install or where should I look to extract these to what will probably be an ISO.
I just used dd to clone a linux partition to a new hard drive, it had 800mb left on the old hard drive, after dd, new hard drive lists 1.29/1.3 terabytes full. Is this what happens by default in dd? How can I fix this?
A couple of weeks ago I installed Karmic. In previous options in Audio CD Extractor I modified a string in the "edit preferences" to set the variable bit rate for MP3 ripping. Specically the option "VBR=4" (Lame New Algorthym) However, I now notice that the "VBR=" option is no longer there!
I've searched around and read some indications that using a newer realease of Lame this is no longer necessary. But its a bit unclear to me. Do I need to insert VBR=4 or not? and if I do anyway will it affect anything?
I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.
we have access to one domain name , 1 internet ip address and may servers hosting different part of site. I want them all to be accessed via same web site . some of the server in our network are embedded devices.they have their specific utility being hosted on that machine. So the severs are bound to be distributed . I just wanted to know how can I access them via single ip, domain name.
I'm trying to extract files off of an audio CD using the program that came with Ubuntu. In the preferences I set the format to FLAC but when it's done and I open up the file manager, all the files are mp3. When I try to play the file with Songbird it tells me it can't read the codec. What's going on? I've extracted the music off of CDs before.
