Jun 13, 2010I got this keyboard no found error...no problem since my grub menu 1st entry is ubuntu...so once I got to load ubuntu, the keyboard magically works.
Basically when booting, it show "Keyboard not detected, press f1 to continue" then at the grub menu, I am not able to select win xp or anything. So by default 1st entry is ubuntu so I can boot into ubuntu.
Once ubuntu is loaded, I can use the keyboard to enter my password....
So I was wondering if the cmos battery is flat...but still why can't my key board be detected when booting up?

Jan 4, 2010I installed Ubuntu using Wubi, and the boot loader does not detect my keyboard. Does the windows boot loader only support PS2 keyboards? Would there be a workaround... like install DOS drivers for it? I have a logitech s520 keyboard.
When in Windows, I can select what OS to use, but is there a way I can select which OS to use while booted into Ubuntu? Is there a program that will let me modify the windows boot loader from within Ubuntu?
Fedora Installation :: 11 Live CD Won't Detect Keyboard Or Mouse And Speakers During Boot
Sep 12, 2009I am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:
ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.

May 29, 2011I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card.What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?

May 2, 2010I have a new F12 install, and my syslog is filling up with messages about USB. I have 2 USB devices plugged in directly to the mobo (bluetooth keyboard receiver, touchscreen), and it keeps redetecting them and then disabling the port for some reason.

Jul 16, 2011My Ubuntu stucks very often. For no visible reason. Music in audacious is continuing playing, but i cannot press anything on the desktop or buttons on keyboard. Caps lock also dont respond. Mouse is working, but i cannot press anything. Only solution is reset.

Sep 20, 2010I have an EEE PC 1000H with currently XP and openSUSE 11.3 installed. I installed openSUSE 11.3 with the LXDE live CD yesterday and it worked without any troubles. Today after a 2 or 3 boots LXDE is behaving weird. The desktop is at the first moment totaly normal. But If you press ALT + F2 nothing happens. I can't launch any applications anymore except 2 I have a quicklauncher in the task for. (file manager and FF) But if I launch them I can't press any buttons, neither is there the black bar at the top which usually says something like "openSUSE.org - Mozilla Firefox" or so.
The weird thing about this is that I had this problem earlier this week after I installed openSUSE with the normal DVD. After one run or so the DVD was corrupted (don't know why) and I thought that might have caused it. But now since I installed openSUSE 11.3 with 2 DVDs/CDs (both images md5sum checked before burning) I don't know where the problem is.

Jan 30, 2010My hardware is a Gateway LT2104u netbook.Bought it today, took it out the box and installed the netbook version of Ubuntu.Now here is the problem.The touchpad works fine. I am able to move the mouse all over the screen, the keyboard works find too. The problem is with the mouse click. The clicks are recognized when I am in the 'overview screen'. For example I can click on firefox and it opens. However once firefox is open it does not respond to any clicks. Even clicks to close firefox.
I push Alt+f4 to close the program and then I can click into any other (or the original) programs, but once inside the problem replicates.The problem was present in the 'live cd' during install as well.Does anybody know what might cause this? The whole netbook is useless at this point since I need to click to pretty much do anything in most applications (the Terminal program is one of the few exceptions )

Aug 7, 2010I have noticed quite often that the tilde key only works when I press it twice. I've searched a while and found out that it can be used for accented characters like with the n (can't do that on Windows here anyway). I only know of the tilde-n from Spanish, I've never seen all of the other tilde-characters. And I do not need any of then ever. But I do need to type in my home directory (~) quite often and I want that to work the first time I press that key. Especially when it works through a PuTTY/SSH shell from Windows, but not directly in Gnome Terminal. The system preferences for the keyboard mapping don't help me out.
So how can I disable that double-press feature for the tilde key? It's allright for the accent keys, the � and ` accents alone are invalid characters and should never be used anyway (there's real quotation characters for that) (except for shell backtick expressions) and I don't need the ^ symbol (for coding only) often on Linux.Using Ubuntu 10.4 with German keyboard mapping (de), directly at the machine or via NX/VNC.

Jan 19, 2011I was using Ubuntu netbook remix 10.10 liveusb ver. and then someone unplug my power and then i unaware of it and leave it. after serval hours, i find it and the screen go blacke. when i reboot with the LiveUSB, i find it just same as not being used before. although it is what Live USB supposed to do if someone restart the computer with it, but i check the deafult setting when the battery become extremely low it should hibernate install, and why LiveUSB ver. would loss all data after hibernate as same as restart?

Mar 26, 2011I'm trying to install Ubuntu Netbook remix on an Acer Aspire One previously running Linpus. I've created a bootable USB which works ok and the initial Ubuntu screen comes up, I can connect to my network.
But when I select Install, a screen comes up with three ticks - drive space, power source and internet. When I then press forward, all that happens is the cursor changes to a spinning disc. Nothing else happens. I can still click Quit so it's not frozen, it just won't do anything.
