Software :: X Forward Of An Existing Process?

Nov 2, 2009

I know I've done this before but I haven't had the need in awhile and it escapes me what I did. Basically, I have a box with a ssh service with X11 Forward on. I can connect, initiate a process on the remote box, and see the program as if on the local one - all good.What I would like to do, though, is say I fire up a process - lets say a cdburn from a gui and not a cli on the ssh service box. Then I go to a remote box and ssh into the one burning the cd. I'd like to pull what is being displayed on the remote box to the local box so that I can see the progress - without looking at text log files - I want the actual display.This is just a simple example of more I want to do, so getting the actual display as an interactive display is critical. I seem to remember something about finding the process id and connecting to that, but again its been years and I forget.The other option would be to forward the entire screen, sort of how windows does remote desktop, but I'd prefer on a process by process basis if possible.

General :: Possible To Resume Existing Vim Process?

Sep 13, 2011

When I left work yesterday I left vim open with the files I was working on. I'm working from home today, so I VPN'ed in and when I go to edit those same files, I get the warning that there's another current vim session open with those files. I know I could just force logout my other user, but that would kill the existing vim session. I think my changes would all be saved in the .swp file. Instead, is it possible for me to take that existing vim session and open it with my second login? That way it would for sure preserve all my changes, and I wouldn't have to open all the same tabs again.

General :: Sending Signal From Child Process To Parent Process?

Sep 8, 2010

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <signal.h>

[code]....

Description of what the code does or what i intended to do:

1. Created a child process from parent process using 'fork()'

2. Sent a signal 'SIGALRM' from child process to parent process using 'sigqueue' function.

(The Third parameter of 'siqueue' function contains the message (message msg) which the child process wants to send to the parent process.'msg' is a stucture instance containing a) pid of child and b) string) 5. Print the 'msg' sent by child process inside the signal handler function 'sig_action_function' of the parent process I am getting some junk value when this line is executed

Code:

printf("%d
",msg->cpid);

I expected to get the pid of child process, which the child process sent to parent process through the signal.

General :: Process Scheduler A Part Of Process Queue?

Aug 12, 2010

as we all know Process Scheduler does Process scheduling and its a process as well. I was just wondering that if this happens then the Process "Process Scheduler" should be a part of Process queue as well.

So if there are 5 process are there in Process queue & process scheduler is administrating them then since its also a process, once it puts a process under RUN state it should itself go inside queue because at one instant only one process can get executed on a processor. This is quite confusing for me. Please help me out. I tried to search on this but could not find any relevant topics.

Programming :: Under Which Circumstances A Child Process Creates Another Child Process Using Fork

Dec 7, 2009

Consider the following code:

Code:

int main()
{
int i=0;
pid_t pid;
for(i=0;i<2;i++)

[code]....

I get the following output:

Parent: chid_pid=4356 i=0 parent's pid=4355
This is child 4356 i=0
This is child 4357 i=1

[code]....

I can observe instead of two children(as I expect) processes there are three. This is because child process 4356 creates its own child. Why all the messages of the type "This is child X i=Y" are concentrated one under another? How exactly fork works? Is affected by the fact that I have a dual-core processor?

General :: Forward All Traffic From One IP To Another IP On OS X

Apr 9, 2010

I have two IP address on my iMac I want to "bridge". I'm not sure what the proper terminology is... here's the situation.

My iMac has a firewire connection to my laptop and an ethernet connection to the rest of my office. My laptop has an ip of 192.168.100.2 (on the firewire interface). My iMac has an IP of 192.168.100.1 on the firewire interface, and two IPs, 10.1.0.6 and 10.1.0.7, on it's ethernet interface.

If I wanted to forward all traffic coming in from 192.168.100.2 on my OS X machine to go out on IP 10.1.0.7, and vice-versa, can this be done? I assume I would use the ipfw command.

Essentially I want to "bridge" the firewire network to the ethernet network so my laptop can see all the machines on the 10.1 network, and all those machines can see my laptop at 10.1.0.7. Is this possible?

So, I have created an ipfw rule in my router computer that goes like this: ipfw add 100 fwd 10.0.2.2 ip from any to any dst-port 2443

Thing is, nothing happens.

I've tried changing the ServerName in my Apache to match my IP address (which is the destination IP of the incoming packets, I imagine) but still, nothing.

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d aa.aa.aa.aa -j DNAT --to bb.bb.bb.bb
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -d bb.bb.bb.bb -j MASQUERADE
