Ubuntu :: Automatically Unlock Gnome Keyring ?

I've done the process with no problem on Ubuntu, but I can't get it working with Lubuntu.

I installed the pam package. I then added the @include common-pamkeyring line to my /etc/pam.d/lxdm file.

Here's my complete /etc/pam.d/lxdm file:

Am I doing something wrong? Does something have to be done differently in LXDE?

Ubuntu :: Automatically Unlock Default Keyring?

May 8, 2011

I seem to have added all my passwords to the default keyring while using a live session. Now when I log in, I am then asked to unlock my default keyring. I thought if you logged in with a password this wasn't necessary. When I look at my passwords and encryption keys, all my passwords appear in the default folder, and nothing is in my login folder. Is there a way to migrate these passwords. Or is there a way to automatically unlock my default keyring?

Ubuntu One :: Unlock Specific Passwords - From Keyring Automatically - But Not All ?

Apr 6, 2010

I have set my computer to auto-login and as a result, the keyring asks me to enter my password every time I start the computer in order to access the password for the Ubuntu One client.

The whole point of auto-login was to not have to enter a password.

Is there a sensible way to use Ubuntu One without having to supply a password each time?

I say sensible, because I would like to avoid leaving the keyring totally open. I understand the purpose of the keyring, and that it should be locked by default. As far as I can see, the only potential work-arounds for the problem I am having seems to be to set the keyring password blank, thereby exposing all my keys to anyone on the computer. This option obviously defeats the purpose of having a keyring in the first place.

Is there not an option that lets me set that specific passwords are available automatically to specific applications? So that the entire keyring remains locked, but those passwords I deem ok to be unsecured are available to those applications I deem trustworthy? This option seem to exist for network-manager, why not for the Ubuntu One client?

Is this option not available, or am I missing something? If it isn't, I guess that I'll stop using Ubuntu One, which would be a shame.

OpenSUSE :: Allow Evolution Email Client To Automatically Unlock Default Keyring?

May 10, 2010

So I've tried finding a solution to this on my own for the past few days (believing it is a simple solution), but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I'm running 11.2 and I have Evolution as a start-up program and I have finally got my wireless working, so it connects automatically at start-up also. I figured out how to have network manager automatically unlock the default keyring, but...

Each time evolution starts up I am prompted to unlock the default keyring. How can I give Evolution permission / access to the default keyring automatically so it can check me email upon start-up without me having to type in my password?

General :: How To Automatically Show USB Camera Or Memory Stick Contents In Icewm?

Mar 12, 2011

I normally use a very lightweight Linux setup. No desktop like Gnome or KDE, just Icewm as the windows manager and nothing else that normal users might consider essential. Well, I do need a file manager - I use Thunar.

Recently I've been trying Gnome. Whenever I shove a memory stick into a USB port, or connect my digital camera, it can automatically pop up a file manager showing all the goodies on that device. KDE does this too. I like this. Although quick at the command line, I like not having to go sudo to mount the device and all that.

If I want to stick with a lightweight setup using Icewm+Thunar, is there something non-huge I can install to make external devices fire up a Thunar window, or otherwise make access to the contents brainlessly easy?

Fedora :: Way To Remotely Access Work Station Running Windows XP

Oct 5, 2010

I run Fedora 13 on my HP dv6000 Pavillion. I am looking for a way to remotely access my work station running Windows XP from my Fedora machine. Most of the information I found explained how to access a Linux box from a Windows environment, and the one place I found that showed the other way around was incomprehensible.

Our company servers run Windows XP, and we have successfully installed remote desktops on other laptops running Windows.I thought of running the remote desktop from a Virtual Machine Windows session, but it seems a cumbersome way to do it.

There are a few pages from google with the debians variants, archived by putting dropbear into initrd.

I like to do that with my fedora/centos remote servers, but struggle to find any resources specific to it. Anyone has any suggestions and thoughts as to what might be a suitable way forward?

I'm looking to run an iptv station for my dorm. I know I can serve multicast so that's not a problem. The station will serve out podcasts and other cc licensed content. The target endpoint is xbmc- a media center. So far I know that I need to serve an rtp stream over udp that's streaming an mpeg-4 avc main or high profile with aac ( or ac3 ?) audio. I've had some luck using vlc with vlm to stream but it seems limited. What are my other options?  Everything has to run on Linux- hopefully open source. How can I use playlists and not live streams? What are my software options?

Hardware :: No Sound When Attached To Docking Station

Mar 24, 2011

I have been using Linux and Ubuntu only since the last two months on my (2006) Sony Vaio VGN A617S laptop which is going pretty well on Ubuntu 10.10. When installing Ubuntu audio did get installed alright, and the speakers on the laptop itself are working well even now with the right drivers (snd-hda-intel) for the Realtek ALC260 soundcard.

My problem is when laptop is docked to the A/V docking station (I have seen it referred as a port replicator as well - the model number is VGP-PRAV2), with its two external speakers. And these were not on when Ubuntu was being installed. What is interesting is the headphones jack on the laptop does work when the docking station does not.

I have been trying hard and have already tried quite a few things I saw to be related issues, like:
a) adjustments to some IEC958 in alsamixer
b) using a custom mod for the ALC260 card

Debian Configuration :: HDD In External Docking Station Is Not Recognized Via USB

Jan 9, 2016

Recently (in 2015) our Debian systems started not to recognize HDDs connected via an external docking station.

On my computer I run: (uname -a)

* Linux violin 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1 (2015-04-24) x86_64 GNU/Linux
* If I connect to a flashdrive to the USB2 port, it is recognized as sd* (messages are also written to dmesg/syslog)
* If I connect the USB3 connector of the external docking station with an 1TB WD SATA docked, to this USB2 port (the external docking station has its own power supply, so I do not expect to have a problem with the current, the drive spins up and is spinning), there is nothing in the dmesg/syslog, and no new items under /dev/sd* or lsusb or similar tools.
* If I connect the same external docking station with the same disk via eSATA on a different computer it is recognized. That computer runs the same debian. If I connect through its USB2 port it does not work either.
* I also tried another docking station and USB cable.

Debian Hardware :: Startech HDD Docking Station Automount

Aug 6, 2015

While using Debian Jessie with Gnome 3 and Nautilus file manager, my Startech HDD docking station will not auto mount and can only be mounted using commandline while in root. Previous GNU/Linux distros, such as Ubuntu 14.04, this device auto mounted without issue. All other devices, such as USB HDD, and USB pen drives, auto mount without any problems.

"Initailize Startech device with a 120GB 2.5" SATA HDD Fujitsu drive"

udev creates two block devices
Code: Select all      begins with:

      brw------- 1 root root 8, 64 Aug  6 10:11 /dev/sde
      brw------- 1 root root 8, 65 Aug  6 10:12 /dev/sde1

      changes to:

      brw------- 1 root root 8, 64 Aug  6 10:11 /dev/sde
      brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 65 Aug  6 10:12 /dev/sde1

dmesg produces the following results:

Code: Select all[  179.127724] scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access     FUJITSU  MHW2120BJ G2     0000 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 CCS
[  179.128513] sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg5 type 0
[  179.129393] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] 234441648 512-byte logical blocks: (120 GB/111 GiB)
[  179.130379] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] Write Protect is off
[  179.130388] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] Mode Sense: 28 00 00 00
[  179.131903] sd 6:0:0:0: [sde] No Caching mode page found

[Code] ....

Between the thirty second and the fifteen second wait, the block device "/dev/sde1" receives the "disk" group and read/write attributes, however, the drive is still not auto mounted and can only be manually mounted via root. The block device "/dev/sde" remains with the "root" group and read/write attributes are accessible for "root" user only.

How to correct this issue to allow auto mounting?
