Thunderbird cannot see a new folder on the mail server (Dovecot). I even tried to have Thunderbird create it, but it didn't show up. It's definitely on the server and even has mail in it.

It works fine except that it seems that the contacts are still saved on the different computers and not on the external drive. It is strange since I have all datas for each profile on my external drive and all Mail and folders are there. I use different versions of Thunderbird (3.1 and under). how I could also have my contacts datas on my external drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to run sudo fsck /dev/sda8 on a partition through ubuntu liveCD since ubuntu 10.10 would not start up.I ran sudo fsck (without arguments) and I must have erased something in error (there was a stream of errors) because when I rebooted ubuntu .. my Thunderbird inbox had been cleared .. erased.I've still got inbound emails archived on my pop server so I can download those again .. but I've lost outgoing emails sent from my Thunderbird client.
View 6 Replies View RelatedUsing Thunderbird 3.1.10 and no longer can see copies of my sent messages in the Sent Folder. I tried to tick the box in account settings to save a copy and it would not take the change. What I did notice is that the e-mails sent are being received on the other end, but I do not have a copy in the Sent folder. It seems as though my e-mail account has been hijacked, and I changed my e-mail account password as a precaution. I am also getting e-mail BACK in my in box that I sent to other people. My AT&T account uses yahoo and my account through AT&T was originally bellsouth.net What can I do to make sure I get a copy of all of my e-mail sent out?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.4 with Ubuntu 10.04 but I find the default highlight colours extremely hard to read when new mail arrives in a folder.
The default colour is grey which is both difficult to read and greyed out items have tended to mean something is not available. How can I can i change the default colour to something much better or am I stuck with extremely poor choice ? Has it something to do with 10.04 .
I recently moved to Thunderbird 3, and liked the tab viewing, even the search module. I have problem though, that currently tried to solve, without success. When I search for mails from a sender (eg. coss@cat.com), a new tab is opened, and I can see them all, but I can't figure out how to copy all these mails into a desired folder of Inbox (eg. cat). So ... I use Ububtu 9.10.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I run version 10.04 GNOME. My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
I have installed 11.4, and it seems (seemed) to work OK so far. I installed Thunderbird via the opensuse "1 click install". the installation ran smoothly, but now a click on the Thunderbird icon does not activate any mail client; the only success is that Thunderbird icon jumps joyfully and then disappears.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu server 9.10 for a home build NAS. Everything is working great just have one more thing to figure out. I have Samba set up to access my files and I set up a recycle feature so anything deleted will get moved to a Recycled folder. (I learned this the hard way after hitting delete key by accident while browsing the shares in windows. Lost 100 GB of data)
Now it is for the most part working but the permissions on folders isn't getting set right. If I delete a file in a share I can go to Recycle bin folder and delete the file for good. But if I delete a folder I can not access that folder to delete or restore from the Recycle bin folder. I have to chmod the folder before I can do anything with it. Anything I can change to get folders deleted via windows to have the right permissions when it is moved to the Recycle bin folder?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have this nasty habit of refreshing desktop in a quick succession by right-clicking and selecting 'Refresh',on my XP system at office.(And,iam sure most of us do the same).With Ubuntu,if a right-click on desktop slowly and select 'align by...',it simulates the XP refresh action as explained above.But,if i perform the same action rapidly,it takes this first option from right-click context menu,which is 'Create Folder',and results in an empty folder being created on desktop.I tried double right-clicking and again it created an empty folder.Is there any workaround to handle this.I mean:Can the right-click context menu items be shuffled so that the 'Create Folder' option is moved from 1st place
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I get my partitions listed in the terminal or in GParted they go up sequentially to sda7 as they should. The media folder in my file system shows the other dual boot OS and a data disk partition, both mounted, which is correct. All good. But there is a third strange folder titled sda8 however I have no such partition. /etc/fstab shows no sda8 either. When I open /media/sda8, it shows no files, says its empty and lists an empty available space that equals the empty space on the Linux OS partition in which the folder sits. But no pie chart shown, and it belongs to root. I changed the permission and found I can save files to it.

Running kubuntu 11.04x64 w/ xrender and folder-view plasmoid:
I cannot view "open with" for directories on the desktop (but it is visible w/in dolphin file structure) and whenever I try to rename folders on the desktop it crashes and restarts (but the rename is successful and no open windows crash).
This glitch is reproducible under OpenGL and Xrender; had to switch over to xrender after a recent system update that seems to slow my computer to a crawl after a little time and kept it cause it seems much smoother and crisper.
Is there any way to fix these issues or is there an alternative to the folder-view plasmoid to view a folder content on the desktop that is more stable?

And now I see what looks like an electrical plug icon symbol over the folder icon symbol like I might see used for some of the root folders. The reason being that at work we have a shared area with 2 folders one named REC (records) the other named WIP (work in progress) within these 2 folders there are 100s of subfolders. The folder names in wip and rec both need to mirror each other but the files are different within the folders. The problem we're having at the moment is people are creating new folders with out letting me know which means the folder names are no longer mirroring each other. Is there a way to recreate all the folders from one directory to another without copying over the contents of the folder? I've been trying to do something like this,

$X contains only other folders so I dont have to worry about regular files but any kind of more "advanced" solution would work.
After upgrading to 11.04, I noticed something strange, being that when I want to drag a file or folder from one Nautilus folder window to another which is not visible, I can no longer hold the item over said folder's taskbar button and wait for it to appear. It just shows the + for copy, and when I let go (which I have no choice but to eventually do), it creates a launcher to that item (I assume it's doing that, and not actually copying there, but the + has me unsure).
I've looked in Nautilus's preferences to see if this is some new behaviour that I can revert back to, but could find nothing there.
I'm of course using the Classic desktop with bottom panel being the taskbar. If you know how I can rectify this, please let me know, as the times I would want to create a file or folder launcher without the usual hassle would be rare, but I am constantly dragging stuff from one folder to another, and it would be a real pain to have to line up source and destination folders each time.
id like to lock a user into his websites folder not his home folder. and i dont want him to be able to veiw anything outside that folder, only be able to play with whats inside that folder. is this possible?
