I remember that at one time there was a program to either convert a tar.gz to RPM or detect system changes, package them up and create an RPM.
Anyone know what this is/was? Is there something newer now?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy question here is that before installing the multilib libraries, how does a 32 bit program differ from a 64 bit. For instance, and here I am showing my ignorance, but surely if I download a program source, shouldn't the resultant binary following compiling and building be a result of the platform it is built on, or does the source code include references to whether it is a 32 or 64 bit program.
Only asking as I have just gone to Slack13_x64, and was hoping that wine might build as a 64bit program. Or, am I stuck with having to install the multilib libs?
i'm converting from w7 and before doing so made up a list of functions i wanted to be capable of doing in opensuse.i have most of them complete but saved the ones that gave me some problems or simply perplexed me until last.i managed to figure out ps3 media server, but still need to know how to automount my external usb drive upon boot.i have my vnc needs met with x11vnc and no probs there.
but what i'm not sure how to do is to synchronize my files between my three computers as well as how to backup my files to an offsite file service (perhaps datastorageunit). i've considered just using dropbox, which from what i've read will backup to offsite ( i used mozy on w7) as well as sync my files across my lan (goodsync handled my syncing). however, i really dont want to pay $10/mo. for 50gb of storage with dropbox when datastorageunit is only $3/mo for 100gb. datastorage unit says that rsync can be used however, even with the gui (grsync) installed i still couldn't make much head way. id rather not take the lazy/pricier way out with dropbox, but instead learn how to use grsync.

I have many video files that I'm trying to convert from *** to .mp4..Currently I'm using Handbrake which does a good job but getting it started is very tedious. In Handbrake I need to confirm and add to queue all of the files. When there are over 200 files at a time it takes way too long. If there is a way to not confirm all of the files please let me know.What program can I use to just add a folder and have it automatically add all of the files to my queue?

Even worse, after closing OpenOffice and all instances of nautilus, convert stays in memory and keeps using most of my cpu power (between 30 and 75 %, acccording to system monitor.Is it normal ? I have a number of uncompressed audio files recorded off of an analog (POTS) telephone line of fax transmissions. Is there a Linux utility or library I could use to convert these files into images of the fax they contain? I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

I have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.

I ran and installation and the program opened up automatically but I can't find the program executable.
If I could find a log then I could locate this file.

Do you know of any dvd copying program? like without making the image and then burning with just one process just copy the disc sorta program like roxio dvd copier? I wanted to make copies of movies I made a dvd of but aside from image burn which is a hassle to make the image first. is there something for burning on the fly or dvd/cd copying? infrarecorder and cdburnerxp do not work for me at all.
