Software :: Java Really Slow In FC10

I have a Java application that is used to create PCB layouts called 'DIY Layout Creator'. When I run it on FC10 it is really slow, 7 seconds to render a new object. If I run it on Ubuntu, it works well. I have done some searching and it looks like it is a video driver problem in X windows. FC10 xorg-X11-server is at 1.5.3 where Ubuntu has 1.6.0. FC10 is a the most FC10 version. I tried to update my Xorg to an FC11 version but it fails to install due to dependencies. Other that upgrading to FC12, are there any other options to correct this bug?

I was forced to reinstall fc10 a couple of days back and from them the bootingup is really slow(takes more then 1 minute to show login screen). before the reinstall, it was quite fast. i dont know what went wrong.

I'm relatively new to Linux, but willing to take a plunge and climb the steep learning curve! I've recently installed Fedora 10 on a spare box I'd like to have running in the lounge by the TV as a TV recorder. Before starting out with MythTV, I would like to get the box running the basics... and hit no major snags with display / audio drivers. I've finally managed to connect to the box via VNC from my macbook over the wireless network. The Apple standard client is slow over wifi, so have started using 'Chicken of the VNC' as the client. At the server end, I intalled vnc-server via yum. I've also tweaked things in ~/.vnc/xstartup so that my default window manager over vnc is gnome.

I'm having some trouble with Java based games. I am running 11.04 64x and I downloaded and installed the latest sun-jvm. I know my hardware can run these two games very well (Minecraft and Spiral Knights). I'm wondering if maybe sun isn't my default plugin.

I ve noticed that iceweasel (3.5.13) is slow in some java requiring websites: showcase: [URL] then add in the field location more than two locations (3=max i think). notice the slughiness if not the IW rash. I'm using Arch Linux with kernel 3.0 and brcmsmac to manage my wireless card. My desktop environment is KDE 4.7 and I use networkmanager to handle network. Recently I've been affected by a weird problem wherein whenever I'm connected to a network Java apps such as jEdit take ~30 seconds longer to start but behave normal once started. What could it be due to and how can I fix it?EDIT:The problem occurs both with Oracle's JRE and OpenJDK, both versions 1.7. I'm behind a HTTP proxy, if that makes a difference.EDIT:I've discovered the cause of this problem. My /etc/hosts file had the wrong host name in it. After correcting this to my hostnameeverything is fine.

I have the following spec:
- Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz
- 4GB Ram
- 1TB Hard Disk
- 256MB Nvidia GeForce Graphics Card
I believe my system is quite fast, yet programs like JDownloader and Vuze (aka azureus) are very slow. More so on the GUI side, not so much program functionality (although I have not tested this either). If I scroll down a list of items, it takes ages, it lags and response time is quite bad.Also, I have two java processes running, each using 200MB of memory. I am assuming one is for Vuze and the other is for Jdownloader. It seems to me that Windows XP/Windows 7 ran java applications much faster and had less ram. I definitely see that with Vuze as it never went into the 200MB area when under windows.

I try to install the java plugin but the java test pages show not installed. I have tried the openjdk-6-jdk package and the Oracle/Sun 1.6.0_26 version to no avail.
Is there some good instructions page someplace? I have yet to find a set of instructions that provides something clear that works.

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

This is my first post and I'm pretty new on Debian. I had used Ubunu for a while now and I've decided to move on Debian Squeeze.But I've one problem: I've a Java programm to install and the installer is GUI Java based. When I run the script, I've the next message:

The console mode will be used instead. Preparing CONSOLE Mode Installation. But this program is not able to run the installation in console mode.
I've tried to install sun-java6-jre but without success.Has anyone an idea to help me install this programm? My Configuration: Debian Squeeze 6.0 amd64.

Java is installed in linux machine and when I enter the command java -version it shows java is not found.At the same time when i run from the folder where its installed with ./java -version it works.
first of all why its not working from any other place? also why do I need to give ./ from the folder?

If you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.

After upgrading java (jre) to 1.6.0_19, the java plugin no longer loads into Firefox. All the rest of my plugins from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ load fine.Java can be a pain such a pain the neck!

I use openSUSE 11.4 64 bits, KDE and FireFox 5.0. I regularly update. When trying to reach my bank, I get the following error: Code: icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run /usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window. Is there anything I can do to remediate ? Does IcedTea everything that Java does?

I'm an Ubuntu user since Jaunty, and I've always upgraded my system (NOT fresh install). Everything went fine, but yesterday I upgraded to Lucid. My only concern -for now- deals with startup time. I'm a desktop user (Core2@3GHz) so I think I should boot in less than 10 seconds. Anyway, boot time is 30 seconds - not too much, but there is definetly something wrong with tools I don't know (ureadahead, plymouth, etc.). Attached is my bootchart: can anyone explain me what's wrong?
Also, I don't even see a plymouth Ubuntu themed bootsplash: I only see a blank (black) screen standing for seconds, then I see the bootsplash for less then half a second, then GDM appears :S Not crucial -I know- but how can I fix it? (I don't know if it's related, but I can see the animation at shutdown)Finally, GNOME desktop takes too long to load. I don't know why, but there are 15/30 seconds in between login sound and a usable desktop (with panels and icons, I mean).Please help me, I don't want to do a fresh install. Boot speed is not a dial with desktops - I know - but it can be a symptom that my system is a bit a messy (and I don't like it, since I installed Jaunty less then 1 year ago). (!Forgot! I would like to install JRE-6u25 on ubuntu.
When I go on the website I see only RPM and another download called:
linux self extracting. The file name for this one is: JRE-6u25-linux-i586.bin
It says to restart the browser after install.
I want to install java to play minecraft. I'm having some speed issues using openJDK.
Would the self extracting file work for minecraft standalone? (I tried playing in a browser without success).
Is using the self extracting file the same as using say the RPM?

Whenever I transfer a movie into my 16GB USB flash disk, my whole system becomes windows-like and unusable!
When i drag the file(s) into the USB disk folder, it starts out fine and pretty darn fast (25mb/sec) then slowly decreases until it's unbearably slow (3m/sec) and as a side effect my whole system starts deteriorating. I basically have to wait for the file to finish transferring before i can use my desktop again!
This has been happening with every version since Karmic (all 64bit)- I put up with it because I don't use the USB stick that much.. but lately it's been my go to source for transfering large files to/from work.

just as the title states i need to upgrade my os from fc4 to fc10 first let me say i have no physical access to the box. all i have is root ssh access to it. So i need to know the best way of upgrading that will be safe. before i do the upgrade the server will be backed up so i will not loose any files. if the upgrade fails the data center will reload the os with what i need on it. but i would rather not have to format.

After upgrading to F11 I have had a few problems with some applications most like miro I was able to fix by using yum remove and then reinstalling. It appears that after updating some applications have stayed with the fc10 versions despite fc11 versions being available.
