Software :: Installing Banshee 1-1.7.3 From Source In Gentoo Amd64?

Aug 6, 2010

I am attempting to install Banshee 1-1.7.3 in Gentoo. So far I cannot find an ebuild (any links would be greatly appreciated) so I am attempting to install it from source. However I am getting stuck at the first hurdle; when I attempt the ./configure command all the dependencies check out OK, but I then get this error message at the end:

Quote:

./configure: line 12014: SHAMROCK_EXPAND_LIBDIR: command not found
./configure: line 12015: SHAMROCK_EXPAND_BINDIR: command not found
./configure: line 12016: SHAMROCK_EXPAND_DATADIR: command not found

[code]....

The reason that I am wanting this version of banshee is to use the Amazon MP3 plugin. Gentoo has an app for this in the portage repositories but it is hard masked for amd64.

General :: Any Alternative Source Distro To Gentoo Without Space Taken Up By /user / Portage?

Sep 8, 2010

I sort of asked this question in the arch linux forums since I was interested in arch but I still have yet to get a response (maybe it's too early).I wan't something like gentoo but without taking up unnecessary space like gentoo's portage does (/usr/portage/). I find that to be a serious flaw with gentoo. Yes you can use squashfs-unionfs to help but it requires some work especially when something goes wrong with portage.I was thinking about arch but can you use it completely as a source based distro? Some people seem to have said it requires scripting and some work from the user. I wan't something that'll do it for me so I can set it and forget it.

I heard about source mage linux and exherbo but I'm not sure what to think. I'm thinking about trying arch linux and source mage but perhaps there's other distro's I don't know about. I'd really like some suggestions.

Debian Hardware :: Installing The Drivers In Amd64?

Aug 19, 2010

Yesterday I installed Debian "succesfully" (after some problems that were easily solved), but now I need some help with installing drivers and other stuff. I need to install the Conceptronic wireless card (rt61). I followed a guide I found on the Internet, but, when making the installation, Terminal gives me some errors.

make
make[1]: gets in the directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-5-amd64'
Building modules, stage 2.
MODPOST 0 modules

[code]....

Another thing I don't know if I installed correctly are the nVidia drivers. I think I installed them succesfully, because my graphics card is now quiet (when the drivers are not installed, it sounds like a nuke) and I have the nVidia settings installed, but... when I try to modify the resolution in Preferences/Monitor, I see "Unknown monitor" and "50hz refresh rate". My TV suports 75hz and when I installed Debian I had it at 75, but after installing the nVidia drivers, everything gone wrong.

I tried to update the xorg.conf with nVidia-settings, and now it says my monitor is at 75hz and it's a Phillips, but I still see Unknow monitor and 50Hz at Preferences/Monitor. Why does this happens? Also, my integrated sound card doesn't work. When I try to open a MP3 file, It opens correctly, but my speakers don't work. And the last thing is... Compiz doesn't work! Well, nothing about Desktop Effects work. I also don't know where should I set up those Desktop Effects (I know how in Ubuntu, but in Debian...).

Debian Multimedia :: Installing Cinelerra On Squeeze (amd64)?

Apr 25, 2011

I think about editing and compressing some avi files and want to install cinelerra-cv. However there are some dependency problems it seems...

aptitude install cinelerra-cv cinelerra-doc cinelerra-cv-data

The following NEW packages will be installed:

cinelerra-cv cinelerra-cv-data cinelerra-doc libavcore0{a} libavutil50{a} libfaac0{a} libmjpegtools-1.9{a} libmp3lame0{a} libmpeg3-1{a} libmpeg3hv-1.5.0-1{a} libquicktime1{a} libquicktimehv-1.6.0-1{a} libva-x11-1{a} libva1{a} libx264-112{a} libxvidcore4{a} mpeg3-utils{a} ttf-bitstream-vera{a}

The following packages will be upgraded: libavcodec52 libpostproc51 libswscale0 3 packages upgraded, 18 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded. Need to get 16.5 MB of archives. After unpacking 31.5 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: libavformat52: Depends: libavcodec52 (< 4:0.5.2-99) but 5:0.6.1+svn20101128-0.2 is to be installed. or  libavcodec-extra-52 (< 4:0.5.2-99) which is a virtual package. The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

Normally I say yes and hope for good, but this time... I do not use adobe flash player, but I would still like to watch ..... videos. Would be hard without gnash, right? I use iron portable and iceweasel. Also I use totem a lot, but aptitude seems not being able to resolve this inconsistency automatically. My question is: what would happen, if I just say "y"? gnash is completly away? And is there any way to install newer version of gnash or do whatever to have everything working?

Debian :: Installing I386 Packages Prompts Removal Of Amd64 Packages

Apr 8, 2015

I am working on a project which targets both 32 and 64 bit architectures at the moment. My system is amd64. I added i386 architecture using this guide. However, my problem is

Code: Select allapt-get install package-name:i386

prompts the removal of currently installed packages (amd64 arch.) which is the problem.

Code: Select allReading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libportaudio0:i386

[Code] ...

Some of the packages I am talking about are

-libegl1-mesa-dev:i386
-libportaudio-dev:i386

Now, as of now, I want to carry out the compilation using 32 bit libraries, however, I really don't want to install 64bit version of all prerequisites each time I switch the compilation from 32 bit to 64. Is there any way to have both architectures at the same time?

Ubuntu :: Installing Ubuntu 10.10 Amd64 After Windows 7?

Dec 23, 2010

I have windows 7 64 bit installed. I used the universal-installer to put Ubuntu 10.10 (64bit version) on my USB. I have partitioned my hard drive into 4 partitions. First partition for windows 7 system reserve. Second partition C for the main part of windows 7. The third partition is logical and it is for random stuff. The fourth I intend to install Ubuntu on it. I tried to left this fourth partition unallocated, format it into ext3, format it into NTFS, but in any case, the Ubuntu installer can not detect that I already have another OS on my HD, and when I go into that "special partition option", Ubuntu installer only let me repartition anything. It can't see the existing partitions. Below is the result of the bootscript.

Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010
Boot Info Summary:
=> Windows is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda
=> Syslinux is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb

[Code]...

Strange thing is that Gparted and the installer can not see the existing partition (partition table unrecognised in Gparted). It tells me that my whole hard drive is unallocated. However the script, which I think uses fdisk, can see the existing partitions.

Ubuntu :: Installing The Thunderbird From Source?

Feb 25, 2011

Since I cannot find a deb of thunderbird 3.3, I would like to find another way to install 3.3 on maverick. I have no experience installing from source, so I may need to be coached through it step by step, but I am eager to learn and VERY motivated Why? I am trying to switch from gmail webmail to thunderbird, because of enigmail and privacy. However, I have been spoiled by gmail's elegance, and in order to get the conversation view add-on, so thunderbird still looks like gmail, the add-on requires the 3.3 version of thunderbird. The latest stable version which is in the repos (maverick) is older (3.1). I have already have done the following:

Code:

sudo apt-get install build-essential

then i downloaded the files and extracted to my home directory.now, according to the ubuntugeek, I should execute the following commands:

Code:

./configure make
sudo make install
clean install

but I have a few doubts:

1) Should I first uninstall thunderbird 3.1? and enigmail?

2) Where do I install it, so it can still find my mails and work as now?

3) If it doesn't work out, can I go back, and if so, how? Once installed, will it be uninstallable from apt or synaptic?

4) Will Ubuntu continue to upgrade my thunderbird once a newer version is available at some time in the future?

Red Hat / Fedora :: Installing GCC From Source - RHEL 4u7

Sep 17, 2010

I am trying to install gcc from source, but wish to install to an alternative location, ie /opt/gcc/4.4.4.

I have done so but ran into the problem that the system libs in /usr/lib64 were being located before my libs in /opt/gcc/4.4.4/lib64.

So, I set --libdir=/usr/lib and reinstalled. The libs link in correctly, but now g++ cant find includes, for instance <complex>. I think I could set CPATH to point to the locations of these includes but that doesn't seem like it should be necessary.

So my question is, what is the correct way to install gcc alongside the system versions while allowing linkage to the right libs and location of the includes? I don't want to use prefixes or suffixes because the intel compiler looks at gcc -v to get clues as to how to compile stuff.

It should be noted that I have no internet connectivity on this machine, so building from source is my only option.
