Software :: Generate Patch Between Two Revision From Git Repo
Aug 6, 2010
Does any one know how to generate patch between two revision from git repo? For example, how can I get a patch between v2.31.5 and v2.29.91 of Nautilus which is at [URL], without cloning the repo to my hard disk.
This post concerns info found at [URL]. My question is: How do I get the patch. The author makes ref. to "his" git repo and the patch for TOR. I guess the patch allows the use of some compile time options that can harden the build. I looked through the change log of TOR and couldn't see any of the options referenced by Jacob in his post. I have read on the net that compile time hardening options are part of the gnu compiler, not the application to be compiled. Is this true?
I just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:
For archiving purposes, I am looking for the different (Gnome, KDE, Xfce) live CD images of the last revision (9) of Etch. I want a copy of them to compare how the system and the desktop environment have evolved in the last couple of years. Actually, I would also like to have live CD images of older releases, but I don't know if they exist.
I am using Subversion version1.2 and need one favour. I have written code to delete particular revision from SVN Repository. Unfortunately, i couldn't delete particular version from repository. Any one can response me.. how to delete?
I'm trying to install a patch but when I copy it into terminal I get message " /home/john/patch-modules_v62-opensuse.sh 'vmware-7.1.3-2.6.37-rc5.patch' not found. copy it to the current '/home/john' directory. Exiting" But I have it in my home directory!
i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
I'm looking for an application which does what is commonly termed as Revision Control (RC). Here is the scenario: I have a directory holding numerous files and subdirectories, all belong to a project I work on. I routinely edit/update some files and wish to record `snapshots' of the entire directory so I can compare different revisions. Of course I can store a tarred version of the directory everytime I change something but this is immensely inefficient. So What I would like is to `upload' a snapshot into an archive file everytime I change something and then being able to `download' a snapshot later (for comparison/backup). Only I work on the project and I use a single machine so everything is local (no network connections).
My requirements are: 1. Being able to easily download/upload with one command an entire directory with all its files and subdirectories. 2. Any change to the directory induces a new version including renaming/moving files (even if their content hasn't changed) 3. The snapshot is aware of symlinks and saves them as such (and not as file they point to). 4. The files in a snapshot retain their original date when I `download' from the archive. 5. A GUI allows to easily navigate between stored snapshots and see which changes occurred.
I want to do something like svn add dir1 dir2; svn ci dir1 dir2 but have it be only 1 revision. Is there a way to do this? Is this the correct way to add new folders (with contents) to the repository? We are restructuring the trunk, so I cleared it out and plan on putting these directories with their contents in it.

If I disable the repo-non-oss repository the update works fine. The URL I have for the repo-non-oss repository is:
Index of /distribution/11.0/repo/non-oss
This has been going on for over a week. Do I need to use a different URL for the non-oss repository? I live in New York, United States.
I wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.
I am using Fedora 13 and I have one program (wine) that I need to start grabbing for the updates-testing repo instead of the default repositories in order to get newer versions. I think I can figure out how to add that repository, but I need to know if there are any others I need to disable or any other changes I need to make to my system so that I don't confuse my set up with conflicting updates.
Also, is there anything special I need to do to be sure that only that one program is grabbed from the testing repo when I run regular updates?
i'm trying to install an orb, MICO, that can generate stubs, skeletons to C++ language, but i'm not having any sucess until now. Anyone knows some orb to c++ and how to install in fedora? I'm using fedora 12 x86_64, my gcc is gcc (GCC) 4.5.1 20100924 (Red Hat 4.5.1-4).
I am real tired of getting those SSL errors when I go to my intranet. So I am now trying to generate my own SSL certs (go me). I have easy-rsa installed for my openvpn can I use that so sign the csr?
In OpenOffice how do you generate a PDF from the current sheet in a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet has 40 sheets. But I want to get a PDF of sheet8 only. When I "Export as PDF", I get a PDF file that contains all 40 sheets.
I'd like to know how do I rotate the audit logs under "/var/log/audit/audit.log" every 6 month. Currently I have set the parameter inside /etc/audit/auditd.conf to "KEEP_LOGS" (Previously "ROTATE" )and logs files are generated up to the size 5M and never deleted. Do I need to change inside "/etc/audit/audit.rules" file?
[root@RHEL5 ~]# more /etc/audit/auditd.conf # # This file controls the configuration of the audit daemon # log_file = /var/log/audit/audit.log
Not only that but I need tons and tons of them generated, and I need it to be totally random each time.
Code: matthew@mvm:/h/misc> cat a #!/bin/bash for i in {1..5}; do echo $RANDOM
[Code]....
There you can see that it is the same number. It does that every time!! Grrr. The strange thing is each time I manually type [or copy & paste] it into the terminal, it gives random [not static, like I am getting from my script] results.
The reason I want this is because I am making a script where this line will randomly go up or down [depending on if the random number is 1 or 0].
I have collected the sa* and sar* files for the past two weeks , i need to generate the report for these files how can i do so i am using centos 5.5. assist me with a tool or a command to do the same.
How do I generate a PKCS#10 request? I've been reading about req but don't quite understand it. We have a server with a certificate and its about ready to run out. I've been told to put in a new request. On the request screen it says all requests must be in PKCS#10 format.
