Software :: Firefox 3.6.16 - No Java Enabled In Preferences
Mar 27, 2011
I have Mozilla Firefox 3.6.16, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2011 mozilla.org,java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode)
And I did ln -s /usr/lib/../libjavaplugin_oji.so to my firefox plugins directory but I still have no java. There is also no java enable in the preferences/advanced in firefox. I also did about: config and switched to libjavaplugin_oji.so.Still no dice.I noticed that mozilla works, I launched PDM successfuly, but I want to use firefox. As for the java version, it's the only version Cisco's PIX PDM works. That's why i have this version of java.

I am trying to understnd where java preferences are stored based on web search I understand they are somewhat like windows registry - stored out there somewhere. web suggested things like hidden files or directories - and i've look all over th eplace withour result on Fedora 14. trying to start a program. got part way in and had given some info and then it blew. it still remembers my iput - which may have been wrong. ive looked at code and see it uses the java preferences system - wpould like to find and erase.

As per this guide, I've enabled the multiverse source in /etc/apt/sources.list. However, using "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin" yields the same result:
Code:
cats4gold@laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin
Reading package lists... Done

Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

I installed Libreoffice from the openbuild service and I observed the following when using Librecalc:
1. Lag time when opening a file.
2. Decreased performance when opening more than one file.
3. Windows freezing when minimizing or maximizing them, or moving them.
4. Windows freezing when using the tiling feature and dragging the cursor to one of the screen edges.
I disabled java and everything works perfectly. Is this the proper course of action? From what I read, I really only need java for the database program.
I am experiencing this behavior on my work computer which is running Opensuse 11.3 KDE 4.6 on a windows network.

When I tried to log in this morning I couldn't until I enabled Java scripts in my Opera browser. This must be something "new and improved". Could someone confirm this? I would prefer "old and lousy" rather than open up my computer to the world at large.

What I have is Xubuntu running as a VM with VirtualBox on my Windows 7 Media Center that is always on. I am trying to be able to remotely access an X display on that box to do network auditing/ various linux stuff from the various places I go. I would like it to be as simple as possible and leave no trace on the remote computer, so what I would like is to use a java-enabled browser to connect to an xvfb on xubuntu with SSL encryption. I almost got it working using cherokee/x11vnc/desktop.cgi but it only works once or twice and I get network errors even on localhost. I would rather just not have X running all the time on the VM and just have an xvfb display waiting/created when I log in remotely from a browser.

I am still adjusting to Fedora (and some other Linux distros) from Windows and I am unfamiliar with installing and executing software programs. Also, if you could also include any pre-requirements involved in the installation..

I have Firefox 3.6 installed on slackware64-current and everything works correctly. However when I use Firefox 3.6 on slackware-current (32bit) and I do Edit -> Preferences, the window is opened but the content does not display. If I click the close button, Firefox terminates, but I can no longer get the focus onto another window and I have to restart X with Ctrl-Alt-backspace.(The same thing happens when I try to logout of LQ!). I have tried reinstalling Firefox 3.6 and jre to no avail. I have tried removing my ~/.mozilla/firefox to build a new profile. The same problem also occurs as root. I have reverted to Firefox 3.5.7 and all is OK.

While browsing following page [url]I get a random window popped up on my box the link which pops up is of following page [url]
In case any one wants to see what I am trying to tell just open that page [url] and try to click on some menu button in navigation bar. You will see an advertisement "Play online games"
Now I would like to tell Firefox-->Edit-->Preferences-->Content-->Block Pop up windows there is a tick on that box. Also as I open that page [url]I do see a message in firefox which says this page tried to open pop
up windows which have been blocked.
And inspite of this message I get to see that advertisement of "playing online games" It has been so frustrating and annoying to each time close that pop up.
My question is inspite of the option of blocking pop up windows enabled why do I get to see this advertisement. Can I some how stop this behavior. I use Lucid 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.10.

I just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and one of the first things I did was to find a nice desktop theme. I tried several from gnome-look.org and eventually settled on one called "the days of grace"
Anyway, somewhere along the way, while trying out themes, I used a script provided by a theme author which installed the theme automatically, which had undesirable results. I don't remember the theme that did this, so I'll just call it theme x. The theme x script somehow made firefox use theme x instead of the default firefox "tango" theme, and now the tango theme is not available, because the theme x theme supersedes it.
The theme x does not show up in ubuntu's appearance preferences, but somehow it looks to be linked to the theme I chose, "the days of grace." I can switch to a default ubuntu theme (Ambiance, Radiance, etc.) and I have my firefox tango theme back.
Does anyone know how I can delete this theme x theme, and get back the tango firefox theme?

since I upgraded to firefox 3.6 the program doesn't start up if I have any add-ons enabled.
The program starts fine with add-ons installed, but only starts up once as soon as any off them are enabled. Even normal add-ons like xmarks and adblock give problems.

On my system, System->Preferences->Software Updates, as best I can determine, completely ignores the "Check for updates: " setting. It looks as if, regardless of what I set, I get daily checks. Is anybody else experiencing this? Anybody got a fix? I like the idea of having the system check for me, so I don't want to just pitch the program.

Girlfriend with a problem: she needs to sign up at the unemployment office in Spain. She is here in China. But for reasons unknown, she can't access the bit which she needs to. It says: 'can't set the browser' Java is enabled and so on, we read the instructions. On her windoze computer, she has a digital certificate. I copied it onto my mem-stick. When I try to copy it from my mem-stick to my Linux machine, I can't. Not even as root! The folder is called 'certificado digital' and contains two folders:
Trash.(tilde)1 and VM_Ware_Workstation They both have some kind of encrypted stuff inside. Can this certificate be installed on my machine?? Trash has 5 things, VM_Ware_Workstation has 3 things. The guy who set this up for her told her she must use Mozilla. Is a certificate only valid with a particular browser?

I'm having an issue changing the flash plug to display flash. I clean installed 10.04 a week ago, upgraded to to the closed source adobe plugin, and everything was great. However, a day ago, I had an issue with one site, and I decided to switch back to the default swfdec player. Since that time I have not been able to switch back to adobe. Every time I attempt to, firefox complains that adobe is already installed. Even if I remove the adobe flash plugin via synaptic and allow firefox to reinstall it, it still uses swfdec.

Has anyone here gotten the Sun Java plugin (1.6.0_20) working in Firefox under F13? I'm using the Firefox 3.6.3-4 RPM supplied by F13, and I created the link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to ${JAVA_HOME}/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so as I've always done, but the plugin fails to show up when I check the plugins in Firefox. I installed some other plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and they work fine, only Java doesn't work. It's weird because I've never had a problem getting the Java plugin to work in Firefox before this, and I've done it a million times.
I don't have the Fedora-supplied java packages installed, so it's not a issue of conflicting plugins. And the plugin does work in Opera. I also tried the 1.6.0_18 plugin from Sun, and that didn't work in Firefox either, though it works in F11. I can't figure out what's causing this just in F13. So far this is the only problem I've had in F13, everything else has worked great.

I recently found out that my Firefox 4 plugin for Java is not working. My problem is that i have Java installed (unfortunately I found out that I accidentally installed the Sun Java and not the OpenJDK) and it is working, but the plugin just refuses to work.
However it should be installed because of the following output:
Code:
So I thought that maybe the wrong Java version is used, but it doesn't seem to be so:
Code:
There are 4 programs which provide 'java'.
So in theory OpenJDK should be selected and work with Firefox, unfortunately it doesn't.
