I'm using Linux Mint 7 which is Ubuntu 8.10. I purchased a Linux Video Tutorial program on eBay which to my surprise is supposed to be run in Windows. Would be great if I could use it to follow along in Linux. Is there any program that'll allow me to do that?
how to do Lempel-Ziv-Welch compression using pen and paper for my algorithms and data structures class. Unfortunately we have only a couple of examples in our book of how it is done. I'd like to practice compressing and decompressing text using it, but I need to find a way to check if I'm right doing it right or wrong.
So I'm looking for some preferably free/open source program which can compress and decompress LZW for Windows or GNU/Linux. Programs without binary distributions are fine too.
I am running Ubuntu desktop 9.10 on netbook and I wanted to know if I can use and what's the name of the program installed in Ubuntu netbook remix for maximize windows?
I need to run application, wich originally wrote for linux, under windows. SMPCallBuilder - application name. I have an application which is separated to several parts (processes) communicating over TCP/IP, using a pre-defined port on localhost. Is this always safe? Can some kind of a firewall (corporate, locally installed, Windows firewall, etc) block this traffic? Or can some user settings in the OS that can block this traffic? The OSes I'm interested in are Windows (XP through 7) and Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, SUSE)
I upgraded to 10.4 netbook remix on my Asus N10 with an Nvidia card. I normally don't use the card and to get rid of troubles don't install the driver. After update something went wrong with the driver and I can't fix it. When the PC finished his boot het ask to give the password for the default key ring as usual but the window disapears before i can change anything. So this one is no too bad as my password is very easy and I can do the job with switching windows and keying very fast the pwd.
But try to read your evolution mail in these circumstances. I tried to start in low graphics mode but didn't help. Finaly I installed a fresh version on a separate partition and asked to copy my Evolution and Firefox documents. He didn't, dn't know why and tryed twice. So far my fresh installation works well but I lost my mails and shortcuts. So.... I think the easiest would be to work from the new installation as on the old one even the terminal window disapears.
I have loaded ubuntu 8.2 on to pc. All went fine and I downloaded kaffeine, i think, in a zip form. How do I unzip it then install it to program file. I also need a translator from windows xp to ubuntu as all the terms are new and different.
I have Linpus runnig on my Aspire One. I would like to setup an icon on the menu to start a windows program using wine. I can start it manually and it works fine. I want to be able to access it directly from the desktop.
What sort of libraries can i use for coding of sniffer program for windows and linux? The sniffer that i want to code is for capturing the list of connected clients to AP wirelessly. I do know that the wireless NIC needs to be in 'monitor' mode in both windows and linux.
Running Ubuntu and writing simple C programs. I need 2 text windows, the one I have started in, and a second to display some debug information. I can start a second screen using popen("/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm" "w"), and I get my new text window. However, it is running a shell and I can't send any info to it!
I installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.
I'm currently trying to get a windows compiled program to work through Wine to run on Linux and MacOSX.
When I run the program through wine, it prompts me to install Gecko which I do. Later on in the program, it attempts to use MSHTML to render HTML but I get these error messages on my console instead.
err:mshtml:init_xpcom NS_InitXPCOM2 failed: 80004005 err:mshtml:HTMLDocument_Create Failed to init Gecko, returning CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no instance created for interface {00000000-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} of class {25336920-03f9-11cf-8fd0-00aa00686f13}, hres is 0x80040111
I'm using Wine 1.1.34 and a similar bug was supposedly fixed in 1.1.33 [URL]
I'm using a crypt solution called DriveCrypt(for windows). But now I need a solution that does the same that DriveCrypt does but must to work in both Windows and Linux.Somebody know some software that works in Linux and Windows to encrypt folders?
I'm using ubuntu 9.04; I have a large project in windows that I want to "port" it in linux. It uses IPC mechanism "Shared memory" and also "Critical Section" APIs in windows, but unfortunately I have no good reference to change these windows APIs to their equivalent in linux?
Is there a comprehensive documentation or reference for this issues? I mean a table containing the equivalent APIs or systemcalls in windows and linux! For example, what's an alternative for the "InitializeCriticalSection" API in linux? Or an alternative for "CRITICAL_SECTION" structure? Or even an alternative for "RegOpenKeyEx", although we don't have registry in linux!!
I bought a set of 3 laser sensors and it came with a software and its C++ source code for windows to receive the lasers info through the serial port. Since the entire project is running on Linux, I need to port the windows code to Linux. At the present moment, I already can receive the data from each of the 3 sensors, but the info is coming concatenated! Tracking down the original windows code, I found that it is probably happening cause I didn't ported these lines to my Linux version:
I've searched already about how to specify the serial port timeouts on Linux, but didn't find a solution. how to port these lines to Linux or maybe where to find more info about how to set serial port timeouts on Linux?
I am trying to install a program named "Ntrip" with wine, running Linux Mint 10 64bit (based on Ubuntu 10.04) I installed the software without problems, when I try to start it I get the following error:
Code:
fixme:actctx:parse_manifest_buffer root element is L"asmv1:assembly", not <assembly> wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.
I'm trying to setup Baldur's Gate in Wine and it's giving me this error: "There is no Windows program configured to run that type of file". I've enabled the file to be allowed to run as an executable, and the program is completely uncorrupted - I just installed it on another computer with Windows.
I know the subject title makes it seem like this should be something on the Slackware forums but I think it can be generalized to other 64-bit Linux operating systems which is why I ask here. I'm running Slackware 13.37 64-bit and was wondering if I use Wine to run a Windows program (with multilib files), would it still run as if it had been used on a 64-bit computer?
I'm a student and I'm already able to access the university's Linux machines from Windows using a combination of Putty and Xwindows with Cygwin. The computers I'm ssh-ing into have Ubuntu on them. Is there a way to remote access them to get the entire desktop? Like having a virtual OS window, but be using a remotely accessed computer. Is there anyway to do this or should I just settle with the X11 forwarding through Putty? Thanks!
EDIT - Just wanted to mention that these are public lab computers so I can't just have myself logged in with a remote desktop set up and waiting. I'd need something that allows me to log in remotely as well on the server without needing to to change what's on the computer there.
After running for a while, often after starting a program that displays graphics, such as Shutter, Gimp, Ocular, or maybe simply having previews in Dolphin (as some of my folders default to large previews)most menus, and some windows will go completely black. Some simply grey out (only ksystemlog does this that I have noticed so far)Blindly clicking anywhere on top title bar has no effect (would expect minimize/maximize etc to work if hitAlt-leftmouse or alt-middlemouse will allow window move/resize - black actively conforms to new window size/shape.
Often this blackening is preceded by a loss of all global hotkeys, which may not be related. With no visible menus or buttons, and with no hotkeys I am forced to hit the PC power button and allow kubuntu to shutdown. If I am lucky and hotkeys still work i can simply log out with ctrl-alt-shitft-del and logging in again fixes the issue.Linux betlogbox 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 11 08:03:28 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I tried to ask this question in the other thread but the admin was saying to me that my other thread here [URL]..( it was not very much the subject of the thread ) People that use Unix,Mac OSX or any Linux OS all none windows do you need anti-virus program like Norton or Kaspersky? And same with firewall like ZoneAlarm and Comodo ?
Some people say you do not need a anti-virus program like Norton or Kaspersky or any firewall.Other people say you do and some say that Unix and Mac OSX have built in firewall.
And if on uses windows use ZoneAlarm or Comodo has it does alot more than windows firewall and router firewall. Note the admin saying the other thread was why windows get more malware and not very much the subject of the thread to post there.
In Windows 7, the options are pretty nice - ability to change track name, artist, composer, album, song number in album, etc., all from "Properties." In Ubuntu 10.10, Properties really gives you the bare minimum. Is there a program to download in order to get the same sort of basic options as one does from Properties in Windows 7?
