General :: Windows - Program Which Uses LZW Compression
Oct 4, 2010how to do Lempel-Ziv-Welch compression using pen and paper for my algorithms and data structures class. Unfortunately we have only a couple of examples in our book of how it is done. I'd like to practice compressing and decompressing text using it, but I need to find a way to check if I'm right doing it right or wrong.
So I'm looking for some preferably free/open source program which can compress and decompress LZW for Windows or GNU/Linux. Programs without binary distributions are fine too.

Can some kind of a firewall (corporate, locally installed, Windows firewall, etc) block this traffic? Or can some user settings in the OS that can block this traffic?The OSes I'm interested in are Windows (XP through 7) and Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, SUSE)

May 28, 2010I'm currently trying to get a windows compiled program to work through Wine to run on Linux and MacOSX.
When I run the program through wine, it prompts me to install Gecko which I do. Later on in the program, it attempts to use MSHTML to render HTML but I get these error messages on my console instead.

Ubuntu Installation :: Program Windows Disappear After A Second
Jun 6, 2010I upgraded to 10.4 netbook remix on my Asus N10 with an Nvidia card. I normally don't use the card and to get rid of troubles don't install the driver. After update something went wrong with the driver and I can't fix it. When the PC finished his boot het ask to give the password for the default key ring as usual but the window disapears before i can change anything. So this one is no too bad as my password is very easy and I can do the job with switching windows and keying very fast the pwd.
But try to read your evolution mail in these circumstances. I tried to start in low graphics mode but didn't help. Finaly I installed a fresh version on a separate partition and asked to copy my Evolution and Firefox documents. He didn't, dn't know why and tryed twice. So far my fresh installation works well but I lost my mails and shortcuts. So.... I think the easiest would be to work from the new installation as on the old one even the terminal window disapears.

The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Programming :: Porting Serial Port Program From Windows?
Jan 8, 2009I bought a set of 3 laser sensors and it came with a software and its C++ source code for windows to receive the lasers info through the serial port. Since the entire project is running on Linux, I need to port the windows code to Linux. At the present moment, I already can receive the data from each of the 3 sensors, but the info is coming concatenated! Tracking down the original windows code, I found that it is probably happening cause I didn't ported these lines to my Linux version:

As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.

Apr 6, 2010I'm a student and I'm already able to access the university's Linux machines from Windows using a combination of Putty and Xwindows with Cygwin. The computers I'm ssh-ing into have Ubuntu on them. Is there a way to remote access them to get the entire desktop? Like having a virtual OS window, but be using a remotely accessed computer. Is there anyway to do this or should I just settle with the X11 forwarding through Putty? Thanks!
EDIT - Just wanted to mention that these are public lab computers so I can't just have myself logged in with a remote desktop set up and waiting. I'd need something that allows me to log in remotely as well on the server without needing to to change what's on the computer there.

Some simply grey out (only ksystemlog does this that I have noticed so far)Blindly clicking anywhere on top title bar has no effect (would expect minimize/maximize etc to work if hitAlt-leftmouse or alt-middlemouse will allow window move/resize - black actively conforms to new window size/shape.
