Software :: Build ImageMagick Into Single Binary?
Mar 30, 2010
I have script that I wish to distribute to a small group that requires ImageMagick, but many in the group don't have ImageMagick installed. I'm not really in a position where by I can install ImageMagick on all the groups machines, and my knowledge of compiling is pretty restricted to ./configure; make; make install. Is it possible to compile ImageMagick (or indeed any other program) into a single binary without any external dependencies? I believe to accomplish this I provide ./configure with the following arguments:

I have a large number of scanned JPG images that I would like to convert into a single PDF file -- each image will be on its own page, and I want the pages to be in a certain order. What is the command for ImageMagick to take a batch of JPGs and convert them to PDF, and order the pages in a certain way.
(by the way: I am working on writing a Gentoo ebuild for convert2pdf at the moment, but until I get that worked out, I'd like to figure out how to do this using Imagemagick, which is already in the portage tree, and already installed)

When creating the binary rpm for autoconf from a source, the test for "autom4te" gives "FAILED (tools.at:134)", while the rest of the test give "OK". This prevents the binary from being built successfully. How can I build the binary? I am using RHEL 5.

sbbdep is a program that reads the elf header of dynamic linked files found in the given argument. argument can be
a package file from /var/adm/packages/...
a DESTDIR destination path of make install
a single given binaries/dynamic libraries
as result it prints out, or into a file, the package names the given argument require. sbbdep scans installed packages, extract some information about dynamic linked binaries and libraries and dumps these infos into a sqlite database usually sbbdep works fast. time consuming is only the first where the cache becomes created this takes about ~? (1 - 2) minutes, of cause, duration depends on the number of cpus and speed of disk io on other runs than the first sbbdep syncs the cache, this is usually a fast operation (~1sec), even if some packages where undated/remoed/installed using the cache with a sqlite client some custom queries can be done like what is required by pkg or file, what are the dependencies of file xy,....
current state of sbbdep is 0.0.1, the first public release. of cause I wanted to make some things better, prettier, more documented and o on but before going on holiday, than waiting until Christmas cause work stresses and than an other year comes I place the code now to a public repo. for me it looks stable enough to release it without stress people that will test/use sbbdep to much with problems. but there may be some bugs I did not noticed, or better say there will be some bugs like it is always the case in software. but since sbbdep does not anything critical an can/shall be run as normal user it will not do anything bad.......

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:
1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.
2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.
What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W
My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}
Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels
Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

I'm attempting to install ImageMagick on my shiny new CentOS 5 server, but it wants to install a bunch of X libs and ALSA to get that to run.
I don't really want sound software and X installed. I see there is a configure option to install --without-x.Are there any alternatives to compiling from source? Any sort of rpm you know of that I am not seeing?

I have an ImageMagick command that is something like this:
convert "/path/to/photo" -set comment "(c) my company" -resize WxH miff:- | composite -dissolve 30 -geometry +40+138 -quality 80 "/path/to/logo.miff" - jpeg:"/path/to/photo_for_public"
Directory /path/to is mounted over NFS (same network). Some options of fstab that might be helpful:
Both rsize and wsize are 3kB
hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2
Sometimes the imagemagick command fails and produces no file (/path to/photo_for_public might not emerge after command execution). Files might be from 100kB to 10MB. We usually re-run the command for files not generated. Sometimes it fails even twice, so we do it third time (hilariously funny, but even a third run can fail).
Are there any thoughts what may be wrong with my photo-processing setup?

I have a folder that over 70,000 images (within it is a complex hierarchy of subfolders). Of these 70,000 images I assume that I only have ~10,000 unique images; the rest are copies that have been resized. I would like to somehow delete all of the resized copies of the larger originals and remove them, keeping only the original image.
Is there a way to use imagemagick (or any other application) to scan this folder recursively and determine which files may be (resized) copies?

I have images in jpg format
Code:
CIMG0100.jpg
...
...
CIMG0131.jpg
I used imagemagick to convert the files to gif with the following command
Code:
for i in {100..131}; do convert CIMG0$i.jpg CIMG0$i.gif; done # works
This worked like expected, but when afterwards I wanted to scale the images
Code:
for i in {100..131}; do convert -scale 25% CIMG00$i.gif CIMG00$i_scaled.gif; done # works not it seems the system is working for about half a minute, but I get no output. The single command
Code:
convert -scale 25% CIMG100.gif CIMG100_scaled.gif # works
works as expected and gives me a scaled image. What does the convert command do in the second case? is the for-loop wrong?

Everything seemed fine up to when I tried "sudo make install", and there I got lots of errors. When i try to run any command, it does not find the libraries..

I have ImageMagick 6.2.8 installed on my CentOS 5.3 (64bit) system. I want to upgrade it to a newer version, because it has nice new features I need to use in a PHP script I write for a website. I tried yum, but it did not help, it didn't have a newer version of ImageMagick. Maybe I have to use some other repositories (I use CentOS and RPMFprge repositories only) or use them some other way. I ended up with downloading ImageMagick 6.5.4 RPM from ImageMagick website (it was marked as Fedora package, there's no one for CentOS there) and tried to install it. I've got some absent dependencies, but installed them all, most from the CentOS and RPMForge repositories. Some were absent from those repositories (like jasper-libs and libtool-ltdl) and I installed them from other sources. Finally, when I tried to install ImageMagick I got this error:
-bash-3.2# rpm -Uvh --test ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64
rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64
I tried to install it using --nodeps, but got some "cpio: Bad magic" error. So, as far as I understand, I need to upgrade "rpm" package itself to make it working. Correct me if I'm wrong here. The current version of rpm is: bash-3.2# rpm --version RPM version 4.4.2.3
If I really have to upgrade rpm, then I'm not sure what to do. I have few questions:
1) First of all, what version of "rpm" package do I need? Because I don't want any conflicts. The latest version, as I can see on rpm.org, is 4.7.1. Will it work with CentOS 5.3?
2) Where do I get the right rpm for the rpm upgrade? If it's available at all. Rpm.org, as far as I can see, got source only, and I'm not sure CentOS uses their version of rpm. Where can I get the right rpm package, preferably as a plain .rpm file so I don't need to build it myself?
3) And after all, the most important. Wouldn't my system break at all if I upgrade rpm? I don't want to screw things up and end up with a broken system.

How do I make imagemagick convert things one at a time? I know how to make imaggemagick convert all pages of a pdf into individual jpeg files by storing it all in the RAM at once but if there isn't enough RAM, this will use swap like crazy and be suuuuuuuper slow.
Here is the command for the "crazy swap-using" way:
convert --units PixelsPerInch -density 150x150 filename.pdf filename.jpg

I downloaded, configured and installed ImageMagic-6.7 without too much trouble.
I'm trying to install the perl module Image::Magick, and using MCPAN just errors out big time.
I read in the docs for installing ImageMagic, that I need to edit the Makefile.PL in the PerlMagick directory before I can do a make / make install.
I'm supposed to change the LIBS and INC, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to change them to? Do I just add to what's there? Where do I find the values to add/change to?
