View 4 RepliesI have had update problems for a very long time in my desktop e-machine. Maybe since 5.3. Usually something about Gwenview and other things. And, while --skip-broken got other packages updated, sorry, an incomplete update just isn't acceptable. Because of this I stopped using Centos for a long time. Yesterday, I got ambition and gave it another try. I had a lot of yum upgrade failures when upgrading 5.4 to 5.5, using --skip-broken.
I decided to fix things or delete Centos completely. But, I like the idea of free R****t. I realize this may have been posted, but I had no luck finding it via Google, So I started Googling. I soon found the --disablerepo option, and playing with repos, got most of the failures to upgrade. But, still hung up on a lot of stuff, like 11 packages or more.
Next, I learned about yum-prioroties and setting repo prorities. Yum-priorities was already installed, but I did go in and set the priorities. Since Google has a lot of information on this, I will not repeat here. You go into the repo config files and add a priority number to each repo listing. Here is a script to display repo priorities that I found online, sorry, I lost the author:

My network:
Subnet 1
Subnet 2
When someone creates a network loop (a cat 5 cable is plugged into two ports on a switch), the 2 subnet get flooded and become very slow.
How can I prevent subnet 1 from getting flood if someone create a loop on subnet 2.
- eth2 go offline automatically until the network loop is canceled.
Just upgraded my mythbuntu box to Karmic. I am now getting lines like the below endlessly, about three lines per second. Periodically (hourly?) I have to sudo killall udevd or I can't use it for anything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedTo clarify, I am a windows user who is trying to free himself from the world of Microsoft. With this, there are a lot of programs that I run on my windows machine for tracking and monitoring severe weather that moves in to our area. As it turns out, every program that I run on my windows machine has zero support for linux. I already know about WINE & VM to run these particular programs, but what I am more interested in is seeing if anyone out there (preferably an active storm spotter or chaser) knows of any great programs for Ubuntu that can provide the same functionality and level of detail as say StormLab, InterWARN, or GRlevelX. I use my laptop heavily while out storm spotting for our city and such, so I need programs that are reliable and accurate. For now, I am still stuck using my windows machine when I go out for these storms, but I would really like to try and use Ubuntu on my next rainy day adventure.

I'm after something that is at least as workable as Norton Ghost and from what I've read dd would to the trick.
