Slackware :: Use Cpufreq As 1.8g Hz Minimum Frequency Instead Of 1G Hz?

Sep 7, 2010

My AMD processor is a 5200 + and has its minimum frequency at 1GHz.

The ferquencias are used by cpufreq: 2700 Mhz, 2600 Mhz, 2400 Mhz, 2200 Mhz, 2000 Mhz, 1800 Mhz and 1000 Mhz .

My question is:

How could I tell for cpufreq use 1800Mhz as my minimum frequency?

Below, piece of my / etc / rc.d / rc.modules on the "CPU scaling governor"

Fedora Hardware :: 13: CPU Stuck At Minimum Frequency?

Jun 9, 2010

My Notebook CPU has variable speeds from 600MHz to 1.6GHz but since I upgraded to F13 it has not budged from 600MHz.I have already installed the gnome CPU speed widget and even if I set it to "performance" or "1.6GHz" it stays resolutely on 600MHz

The only indication that I can see that there is something odd is the output of acpitool tells me the min/max cpu speeds are 600MHz/600MHz. I don't know enough about the guts of Linux to know if acpitool is defective or if it's just repeating what it was told by something lower down.I will post some hopefully useful listings of some commands run under Fedora 13 and then the same commands on the same box with an F12 live USB.

Code:

Fedora 13
$ acpitool -c
CPU type : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz

Slackware :: Activating Cpu Frequency Scaling ?

May 15, 2011

Slackware64 13.37 multilib, generic kernel (full install)

I'm trying to activate cpu frequency scaling following the tutorial on slackwiki: [url]

I can't load any module.

I've tried all of them but the error is the same. I also rebooted to the huge kernel, however, it gave me the same error.

Slackware :: 13.37 Isn't Loading The Modules - CPU Frequency Scaling ?

Jun 10, 2011

For some reason, it seems that 13.37 isn't loading the modules I need for cpu frequency scaling. I've edited /etc/rc.d/rc.modules so that CPUFREQ is set to on. On 13.1, this would mean the powernow-k8 module would be loaded for my AMD cpu, and the subsequent "ondemand" governor would be loaded. However, for some reason this isn't being done during the boot process. I've tried it using both the generic kernel and the huge kernel (I'd been using huge for a long time before without realizing it.) Has anything changed in 13.37 with regards to CPU frequency scaling?

Slackware :: CPU Frequency Scaling Will Not Load At Boot

Nov 16, 2010

I'm curious as to why some things are not happening at boot time (i end up having to manually load them).

In /etc/rc.d/rc.modules (near the bottom) i have set "CPUFREQ=on" and commented out any modules not specific to my hardware.

I have left this one uncommented:

Code:

And below the "### CPU frequency scaling policies:" i have;

Code:

uncommented. My scaling governor is set to:

Code:

Now whenever i reboot my machine `lsmod` is not showing any of either powernow-k8 or cpufreq* related modules.

I know i could use /etc/rc.d/rc.local with these:

Code:

But seems to defeat the purpose of rc.modules, any idea why they are not being loaded at boot... ?

Code:

With slackware64-current

Ubuntu :: Push Cpu Up To Max Without Cpufreq?

Jan 31, 2011

I am having some problems with my CPU speed detailed here: [URL]

Basically it is restricting my computer to 800Mhz after 10-15mins for no reason. With Windows I was able to use something called Notebook Hardware control to ramp up the speed to the max of 1.73GHz. With the cpufreq applet, it won;t do anything.

Is there another program I can use to override the speed?

Debian :: Preventing System From Changing Cpufreq Settings

Apr 10, 2011

I am not sure where to post that so I'll just try here.My main question is: How can I prevent the system from changing my cpufreq settings? I'd like to keep the CPU load as low as possible so these settings are probably the best.However when I run some applications that require a higher CPU load the system changes the governor to performance and the rang to 0.8 - 2.4 GHz.And that's my problem. I neither know what application exactly is responsible for changing my cpufreq settings nor do I know how to turn that off.Or is it supposed to be that way?

Or what command will apt-get the modules that aren't here now?I've been reading the cpufreq tutorials but can't get past loading a suitable driver - which means I'm nowhere now. My notebook runs the same CPU and cpufreq is working fine with desktop Ubuntu install of 9.10.

Debian Multimedia :: Finding A GNOME/GTK CPUFreq Setting Front-end

Dec 25, 2010

Sometime back I installed cpufreq. Now while I know quite little about cpufreq, what little I understand tells me it can do two things :-

a. Give the user the capability to change frequencies - there is something called max frequencies and minimum frequencies and the user can play between them.

b. Show the cpufrequencies via the GNOME cpufreq plugin/applet.

Now while its able to show me the frequencies, I'm not able to find a GNOME or GTK front-end which I can use to set the frequencies. I did read a little bit about something called 'governers' which from what I learnt are something similar to profiles - as in you want to be conservative, powersave, ondemand and performance.

1. I'm looking for a Gnome-GTK CPU setting frequency GUI.

2. If somebody wants to share more info. about the whole cpu frequency thing that is also very welcome as I'm not really aware as to how can I do things a bit more intelligently so I'm able to get a bit more performance while not using much energy (can be done or cannot be done ?) but that discussion hopefully comes later after I've a tool through which I can do the same in GUI.

I have a 32-bit Ubuntu installation that for technical reasons needs to be 64-bit even though it has under 4 gigs of ram. I don't want to spend loads of time upgrading it, and almost everything is from the repository. So what I am hoping is that I will be able to find a way to "save" the programs I have installed and then automatically reinstall them when I install the 64-bit OS, install my (2) non-repository programs, and then simply reload the old home directory. Would that work, and how would I do it?

General :: Minimum For Firefix And Java SE Only?

Jun 6, 2011

After working for about 15 years on MS Windows, I have decided to to change over to Linux. I have a current netbook with 1 GB RAM. The only work I would be doing on the netbook are:

1) Surfing Internet using Firefox browser.

I would avoid saving anything on my disk while browsing. If I need to open files, videos, then I would be opening them directly in the browser while I am connected to the internet.

2) I would be writing code in Java using Java Standard Edition (not the enterprise one).

Those Java programs may need to use the network, graphics, sound- actually the programs will need to use any available Java API/Package/methods available in the Sun distribution of Java.

Now, For the above to jobs, I want to install the bare minimum, smallest linux on my netbook. I mus mention taht I do not want any Linux package/program/library that will not be required for the above two jobs. To rephrase this, I want to have only those linux components that are absolutely necessary for the above two jobs (Surifng the internet with full power on Firefox, and developing Java programs which may use _any_ functionality that is provided by the Sun distribution of Java Standard Edition.

So short-term needing a replacement for the various tools MS traps you into to make it easy to work with SQL Server.

I'm going to be using postgreSQL, and I'm wondering what's a good strategy as far as a GUI front-end.

1. No building from source. Don't have the time.
2. Keeps package dependencies to a minimum.
3. Won't require me to use KDE. My dev machine is too old to use KDE productively.
