Ubuntu :: Cpufreq Does Not Stick
Mar 14, 2011I have been using kubuntu, and I would like to change the cpufreq settings. My understanding is that there is no applet for that, and I would have to do it by hands with a script.

Jul 31, 2011I recently started having this odd behaviour while using and loading cpufrequtils on boot, I don't know if it is happening to someone else.During boot I'm getting( when /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils invokes /etc/init.d/loadcpufreq to load the proper module):

Ubuntu :: Push Cpu Up To Max Without Cpufreq?
Jan 31, 2011I am having some problems with my CPU speed detailed here: [URL]
Basically it is restricting my computer to 800Mhz after 10-15mins for no reason. With Windows I was able to use something called Notebook Hardware control to ramp up the speed to the max of 1.73GHz. With the cpufreq applet, it won;t do anything.
Is there another program I can use to override the speed?

Jul 17, 2011i noticed that my cpu is running on full scale all the time and tried to install inducator-cpufreq to get it under control.The problem is that thr indicator doesn't show up.I installed is from ppa:

and tried to run it by simply executing indicator-cpufreq.If i try to run it from terminal it gives me the following errors:

Apr 29, 2010I'm running 9.10 server on a mini-itx board. The CPU is Core 2 Duo T5450 and supports Enhanced Speedstep and the BIOS is set to auto, enabling C1E.I've been trying to get cpufreq to work but none of the drivers are present.When I try to load suitable ones they are always not found.Does someone know if cpufreq is not supported on the server kernal? Or what command will apt-get the modules that aren't here now?I've been reading the cpufreq tutorials but can't get past loading a suitable driver - which means I'm nowhere now. My notebook runs the same CPU and cpufreq is working fine with desktop Ubuntu install of 9.10.

Apr 10, 2011I am not sure where to post that so I'll just try here.My main question is: How can I prevent the system from changing my cpufreq settings? I'd like to keep the CPU load as low as possible so these settings are probably the best.However when I run some applications that require a higher CPU load the system changes the governor to performance and the rang to 0.8 - 2.4 GHz.And that's my problem. I neither know what application exactly is responsible for changing my cpufreq settings nor do I know how to turn that off.Or is it supposed to be that way?

Dec 25, 2010Sometime back I installed cpufreq. Now while I know quite little about cpufreq, what little I understand tells me it can do two things :-
a. Give the user the capability to change frequencies - there is something called max frequencies and minimum frequencies and the user can play between them.
b. Show the cpufrequencies via the GNOME cpufreq plugin/applet.
Now while its able to show me the frequencies, I'm not able to find a GNOME or GTK front-end which I can use to set the frequencies. I did read a little bit about something called 'governers' which from what I learnt are something similar to profiles - as in you want to be conservative, powersave, ondemand and performance.
1. I'm looking for a Gnome-GTK CPU setting frequency GUI.
2. If somebody wants to share more info. about the whole cpu frequency thing that is also very welcome as I'm not really aware as to how can I do things a bit more intelligently so I'm able to get a bit more performance while not using much energy (can be done or cannot be done ?) but that discussion hopefully comes later after I've a tool through which I can do the same in GUI.

Sep 1, 2011I'm about to ditch Freenas as my NAS software and make it an Ubuntu server box. The mainboard is an Asus AT3ION-T dual core Atom board. Freenas runs happily from USB stick. I have no optical device to install Ubuntu from and would like to install Ubuntu Server to a USB stick.

Dec 10, 2010I am using Ubuntu 10.10 x64. When I try to change the setting to powersave or ondemand the applet resets back to performance after a few seconds. It is causing my laptop to get hotter than necessary. Which is bad.
Also, the computer tends to freeze at random times and a few seconds afterwards the screen will blank to a color like purple or white. sometimes vertical stripes too. I have had this issue since I installed 10.10. (It happened twice trying to type this post >.<)
I am using a Gateway NV5207u. AMD Turion CPU and ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics

Jan 17, 2010So I've been running Ubuntu in a VM environment for a while, seeing if I like it. I think it's something I'd like to have as the primary OS on my netbook, so I downloaded the latest Netbook Remix version (9.10). Problem is, I can't get the thing to boot from my USB stick. Before we get into any lessons on how to set up a USB stick to be bootable, and how to adjust the BIOS's boot priority... let me say that I've used this exact stick and this exact laptop in the past just fine. When my netbook came home from the store with WinXP on it, I created a Live USB using unetbootin v3.56 and made the stick bootable with a gparted-live ISO. I used this to boot from the stick and partition my drive in half so that I could load the Win7 RC onto the other partition. Everything worked great then. I blew away those partitions and went back to a single partition when I loaded up my full Win7 OS a few weeks ago.
I'm wondering if it's possible that Win7 does something special with the bootloader to prevent this stick from being recognized? I know that sounds kinda far fetched, but I have a vague sense of having read this somewhere, but I can't find anything along those lines now. Just to be sure, I went into the BIOS and took out both the CD and the HDD from the boot sequence, so the only thing in there was the "removable device". However, when booting from the stick in this configuration, I got a "please insert an operating system" type message. When I started this process, the stick was still in "LiveUSB" mode with the gparted OS - however, I didn't test it in Win7 to see if it would have booted from it. I just assumed that it would have since the last time I used this USB stick, it was to boot into gparted-live.

Feb 10, 2010I copied the unr 9.10 iso to my usb stick fine using the program from pendrivelinux for ubuntu 9.1. I think it worked well, because it now has a ubuntu logo on the usb and says "install ubuntu netbook remix." When I get to the BIOS menu and to the boot options, I get a box which says three things: SDD slot, D: drive, and disabled (maybe talking about the D)When I press enter on the D: drive nothing happens. When I say to save configuration and exit it goes right to xp again. I have no idea what to do... I'm on an EEEpc 1005-HA running xp.

Mar 15, 2011I have this weird problem with my usb drive (Transcend 8 gb). It had been working fine for 2-3 months. But then all of my systems, except one stopped detecting this drive. Connecting the usb to these systems has no effect - no /dev file created and nothing shows up in dmesg and lsusb.
And on the one system (out of 5) where it works properly ,lsusb has this output:

I didn't do anything special with this usb, just using it as normal (data transfer etc). And no, I don't connect my usbs to Windows systems. I have formatted it, ran fsck but nothing worked.
