Slackware :: Restore The Default KDE Menu System?

Jul 11, 2011

Like a dummy, I played around with KDE Menu Editor without asking if there was a way to return it to it's defaults, if I screwed it up.

Is there a way to return it to its 'factory settings'?

General :: Fonts - Restore System Default Settings On Mint KDE?

Apr 7, 2011

I did something weird and now my text size is like 3pt on every system window, but when I go in and change my window fonts to larger to something that looks normal, it makes my clock, bash, and other fonts absolutely gigantic. Is there any way I can just roll back my system and it's settings? It wouldn't be much bother as I installed the OS yesterday. I'd hate to have to reinstall entirely though

SUSE :: USB Installation Recovery - Restore System From Initial Menu

Mar 10, 2010

I have an installation from USB/DVD issue.

Setup:
1. Desktop running WinXP
2. Lenovo S10e netbook running Win7RC1 (just expired.) no DVD drive.
3. 1 DVD by Novell and Lenovo with "SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (For recovery select Restore System from the initial Menu.) November 2008"
4. 4GB USB drive. Laptop can boot from it.

Problem:
Need to install the system to the Laptop using the USB drive. Doesn't install.
What I did:
Mostly followed the guide at "Installation without CD - openSUSE.htm" my USB drive is G:

used the HP USB Disk storage format tool to make my USB bootable.
Copied all files from the dvd to the usb drive
Moved G: ooti386loader* to G:
Deleted E: isolinux.bin
Renamed E: isolinux.cfg to E: syslinux.cfg
Downloaded syslinux-3.85.zip from [kernel.org]
Extract syslinux-3.85.zip to c: syslinux
CD'ed to c: syslinuxwin32 directory in a cmd prompt
Ran syslinux -ma E: .....

Result:
Runs all the way through, gets to a windowed program called ">>> Linuxrc v3.0.20 (Kernel 2.6.22.5-31-default) <<<" Code: could not find the openSUSE Repository. Activating manual setup program

Main Menu: Settings, System Information, Kernel Modules (Hardware Drivers), Start installation or System, Verify Installation CD-ROM/DVD, Eject CD, Exit or Reboot, Power off Cant find anything on the usb drive (obviously?) so what do I do now?

This is where I'm at and quite stuck... not sure what other flags there are to use, what I have to move around or rename.

Fedora :: Deleted Menu.lst - How To Restore

Apr 1, 2011

I have a Laptop where I installed both Fedora 11 and windows 7 dual boot.

While I was upgrading Fedora 11 to Fedora 14 using preupgrade, I tried to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst file to make an option to continue upgrading the system after rebooting.

Accidentally, I deleted the file content and I couldn't restore it

I knew then that I'll face a problem when I reboot the system, and I faced it >> the grub selection menu disappeared , and only the line (grub> ) appeared when I reboot the system.

1- These commands:

Code:

But when I rebooted , nothing changed and the same (grub> ) appeared again.

2- I used the instructions in the PDF attached, but unfortunately nothing changed.

I think that I have to rewrite the menu.lst and grub.cnf files but I'm not expert and I don't know exactly what was there (locations , commands , etc. )

The current system monitor for the file system is shown in the next image:

Fedora :: Restore ALSA To Default State?

Nov 25, 2009

I'm having trouble with my sound on my new Fedora 12 machine. when I first installed F12 sound was working but it appears that I have messed up some settings somewhere and now alsa is no longer recognizing my sound card (integrated into my ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard)

Code:
$ aplay -l
aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...

I'm sure that when I tried to fix it I probably messed it up worse. Is there an easy way to restore all of my sound settings and audio Drivers back to the F12 defaults without losing everything else?

Ubuntu :: Restore Default Kde File Associations?

Jun 7, 2010

i initially installed ubuntu, working with gnome for a while. i now migrated to kde as i like it better. however, the kde session still has lots of the "old" file associations set as they are in gnome...

some examples? text files open in gedit, instead of kate pdfs open in "document viewer" instead of okular double clicking zip folder opens the "archiver" (gnome?), extracting an archive from the archiver and then pressing the "open folder" dialog after extracting has finished, opens nautilus (although dophin is the default program for inodes). etc.

i'm aware of the possibility to edit file associations, however thats a tedious thingy to do, if you want to get it complete... furthermore, the file association edit dialog has the "defaults" button disabled, hence my questions:

is there any way to "restore" the kde default file associations, just as i would have installed kubuntu initially? i don't want to reinstall just because of this.

Ubuntu :: How To Restore Mouse Default Preferences

Jun 12, 2010

I was messing around with games on my desktop. I'm using lynx, relatively newly installed. I changed the mouse controls in one of the games to be more sensitive for movement. It seems like whenever I click on a windowframe in gnome, half the time the windowframe treats my click as a doubleclick. For days I've been messing around with the mouse settings under system>preferences, but I can't seem to get the settings right. Knowing linux, the mouse controls have to be set in a text file somewhere. How to reset my mouse preferences to the original defaults?

Ubuntu :: How To Restore Default Folder Icon

Jul 10, 2010

Because Remastersys has a size limit for its backups, I exclude the Pictures folder. Therefore, when I do a restore, there is no pictures folder; when I create one, it gets the generic folder icon, rather than the folder icon that is normally associated with the Pictures folder. I know that through properties I can replace the folder icon with anything, but I have not been able to find where the generic pictures folder icon is stored. If I choose a specific icon, and change the icon theme, the custom icon remains. Further, when I make a bookmark for the new Pictures folder, it gets the generic folder icon, no matter what icon is assigned to the Pictures folder. There must be a way to restore the generic Pictures folder icon, so that it changes with the icon theme.

Ubuntu :: Restore The Default Desktop Folder?

Mar 28, 2011

I have a Windows Partition for my Windows system and another partition for my Ubuntu. All my data is located in another partition called User). What I did, in the home folder, I deleted the default user folders (Documents, Desktop, Videos,...) and created a link to to the folders in the User partition. So for Desktop, I created a link to User/Desktop folder, for Documents, I created a link in my home folder to the 'User/My Documents'. What happens now is that all the symlinks I have created appear in my desktop instead of the Desktop items I have in User/Desktop. Any idea how to restore the default desktop folder? I have removed the link to the User/Desktop in my home folder and created a new folder named Desktop and nothing happens.

Ubuntu :: Restore The Windows Boot Menu?

Apr 6, 2011

So I have been trying for the past 24 hours to get Ubuntu installed on my primarily Windows 7 PC, along with the BackTrack Linux OS, so I can explore things dealing with security a bit more, I decided to Dual Boot into Ubuntu and VMware BackTrack for the obvious reason of I am dealing with Viruses/Hacking and such and would rather do that in a safe environment. So after getting Ubuntu installed and working I now have the Grub boot menu along with 5 options 2 for Ubuntu, 2 that slipped my mind, & 1 for Windows (Loader).

My question is, is there any simple way to get the boot menu for Windows back with it just listing "Ubuntu & Windows 7" as two separate options. Sorry for the small level of incompetence its been about 3 years since I was in school getting constantly refreshed with all the info. EDIT: I should probably mention that if I had just done the install on a new HDD instead of an partitioned external I wouldn't of had a problem.
