I've currently pieced together a asoundrc that gives me audio via HDMI and analog so I am able to get sound both on my externally connected monitor via HDMI and my notebook's speakers. Problem is, the analog output through the notebook's speakers/headphone jack is much much lower than it can be. In Windows 7 the volume is higher at the same level.

When I started using Slackware I've been using USB headset. Everything ran perfectly fine. They got recognized, I could use all of it's functions and so on. Unfortunately volume control on them stopped working so I had to service them, and like in every third world country, yay I need to wait minimum three weeks just so they can press a button and say "Yup, they don't work".
I bought normal headset to use them while other one is getting fixed, and didn't expect any problems with them considering they are "old" technology, normal audio input and output.
Now problem is following, sound works fine but microphone doesn't. Once I managed to "fix" it by switching audio input from mic to something else and then back to mic, now even that doesn't work. Another... "problem" is if I leave my USB webcam plugged in while booting computer, there is no sound at all, ether on line ones or USB ones but I can easily solve that problem by unplugging webcam, rebooting and plugging it back in later.
Now everything ran fine until my computer shutdown while I was sleeping. Don't know why, but it started happening recently, don't see anything smart in logs so I assume its... something, read it could be cache, HDD, temperature and so on but since logs don't write down anything smart... will deal with it some other time.
When I talk I can actually hear myself on the headset, which probably means that they work. If I put mic boost all the way up, I can hear myself perfectly clear, but somehow... seems that that information just doesn't get to Slackware, well it gets somewhat considering that it reacts to me adjusting mic boost on KMix, but everything else... no.
Arecord doesn't record anything, TS register as microphone isn't plugged in at all, skype doesn't get any input ether.

I put a hdmi cable on my note, I turned on the TV and ran to is a beauty but when I turned on the video ... the sound did not come. I went to System -> Preferences -> Sound and changed the output to "Digital Stereo (HDMI) output. And no sound came out. The boxes of note works perfectly.

I have my Acer Revo R3610 PC connected to my LCD TV through HDMI. The sound works but I cannot control the volume from Kmix. I've added the IEC958 channel to the channels in Kmix but it doesn't provide a slider for it. Only a mute. The master volume slider has no effect at all. Is there any way of controlling the volume when connected through HDMI?
I ran the alsa diagnostics script (/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh) and uploaded it here.

I have a Zotac Mag Atom computer with Nvidia ION graphics. This computer i use as a HTPC hooked up to my 42" LG flatscreen via HDMI. The problem i have is that after have installed de correct graphics drivers the graphics chip only sends picture over HDMI whilst there allso is going sound.

also when I open the Gnome Alsa Mixer, under the HDMI tab, there is just a blank screen. I believe I have the latest Alsa releases.

I spent a few days trying to make audio work on my TV connected via HDMI to a PC. The speaker test used by the sound preferences was dead, as was MPlayer. I'm currently trying to install unRaid on Slackware following this tutorial :[URL].. I'm new to Linux and after many hours, i finally managed to build the new kernel for unRAID (2.6.32.9). But audio on HDMI port doesn't work I tried alsaconf without success. HDMI sound works when i boot into the old kernel.

I suspect that it has to do with my system showing two sound cards (0 and 1) ; I tried different asoundrc file options from the ALSA Wiki but no luck. I am still left with Flash=No Audio.

Pulse audio says it cant connect. Ive also lost the volume control icon in the top right for some reason as well? The only thing ive done recent is install mp3 codecs. Now i half to manually reload the drivers for my volume to work after bootup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an mdadm/lvm2 volume with 4 HDs that I created in Ubuntu 10.04. I just upgraded the computer to Ubuntu 10.10.
I redid the mdadm commands to get volume up and running, did mdadm --detail --scan > /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf to get the configuration file.
But now, every time I reboot, it tells me that the volume is not ready. /proc/mdstat says that I always have one disk of the volume "inactive" as md_d127. I need to stop this volume and reassemble the whole thing to get it working.
This is what I get out of mdadm --detail --scan and put inside /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf:
And this is my /proc/mdstat on boot:
I need to do mdadm -S /dev/md_d127, mdadm -S /dev/md127, mdadm -A --scan to get this volume working again.
This did not happen with Ubuntu 10.04. I'm really fearing the loss of my raid5 data now.

I like it a lot (better than old versions), but the volume applet doesn't work.I did some reading and apparently this is due to a conflict between the GNOME people and the Pulse Audio people. View 10 Replies View RelatedNewbie slackware user here, I'm having some issues getting keyboard volume control to work properly.I recently fixed my network adapter problem and I managed to get flash player installed despite my minimal knowledge of linux and slackware, but there's yet another small glitch that I can't fix.When I'm logged in as root, keyboard volume controls work perfectly, mute mutes the audio + increases the percentage, - decreases the percentage, etc.However, when I'm logged in as another user and I try to use keyboard volume controls, the bar will pop up in the middle of the screen, but it will be stuck at 0% no matter that I do. (Sound still plays though, it seems that volume is at 100% while the bar in the middle reads 0%).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI realise this is an issue that has been covered a lot, one way or another, but at least from what I've been able to find, most of the discussion centres around getting HDMI audio to work. However, I have problems even getting the video to work from my laptop's HDMI output.
I have an HP dv6z-se, with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6550 (1 Gb) video card and using F14/KDE. My problem is that when I go to System Settings/Display/Monitor, Fedora doesn't actually seem to realise my computer even has an HDMI output and only displays options for VGA and my integrated screen.
When I plug it into my LCD screen, sometimes I get a 'No Signal' message and sometimes I get garbled static and a message about unrecognised input and the frequency it's coming at.
I read elsewhere in the forum that someone was able to get video working by editing their xorg.conf file, so I went in and tried to see if I could replicate that, but none of the files in my xorg.conf.d folder had anything related to video outputs (as far as I can tell at this point).
I am using Slackware 13.0 quite out of the box, normally I can change volume for every app using alsamixer. As my laptop is a little bit old working in X uses a lot of resources I have been searching for more and more console based apps. With good results until now.
I started using mp3blaster to listen to music. Great app and all. Only problem I have got is that I have difficulty controlling the volume for it. When in alsamixer I can mute the master channel an control Pcm in small increments so that I can speak about control. When using mp3blaster I have got no control whatsoever. Cant mute the vol channel nor can I control the Pcm2 channel in any way.
My questions are: How do I control the volume in mp3blaster? Why do I have Pcm2 instead of Pcm in mp3blaster? What other info would be needed for anyone to push me in the right direction to solve this problem?
I read on another thread that i can 'run' this 'script' somehow to add a preamp to kmix to raise the volume.

I have a problem with my sound. I can't really increase the volume of the sound. I already looked in alsamixer and everything is maximized. With the same headphones in Windows, I can achieve great sound volume. Does someone know why the sound is too low? I started alsaconf and created a new configuration. After that run aumix. View 12 Replies View RelatedI have been following Alien Bob's README_CRYPT.TXT on the install disk and playing around with LUKS and LVM as highlighted in the section Combining LUKS and LVM. I got this working following the examples in the readme however I now wish to add another volume to the volume group. I have got this working and extended the group with an encrypted volume so it's now bigger. I want the two included physical volumes in the volume group (which are both encrypted) to be opened on bootup.
As it is now I am prompted for a password for the first physical volume (the passwords are set to be the same) and that opens and boots the volume. It has a problem with the second PV I have added and doesn't open this. There are errors on boot up about this and pvdisplay give this:
