Slackware :: Sound Too Low - Cannot Increase Volume

Feb 20, 2010

I have a problem with my sound. I can't really increase the volume of the sound. I already looked in alsamixer and everything is maximized. With the same headphones in Windows, I can achieve great sound volume. Does someone know why the sound is too low? I started alsaconf and created a new configuration. After that run aumix. Now I have the volume I wanted.

General :: Sound Volume Increase Beyond 100%?

May 29, 2010

Some audio output from files or streams is too low. It is obvious that hardware is able to play the same sounds but louder but because of the data it just plays it at some low level even at 100% volume. Vlc can generally increase the volume of a file up to 200%. Is there a way to do the same thing VLC does system-wide and if possible for an arbitrary v percentage value.

If there is no application that does this, where should i look into for libs to do it myself or what code should i modify(eg code in the alsamixer)

Note: Asked the same thing on stackoverflow and they directed me here.

General :: Debian - Increase The Sound Volume Above 100%?

Jun 21, 2011

I am running KDE 4.6 in Debian Testing. Is there a way to increase the sound (i.e. more than the standard 100%)? The current settings with my speakers seem a bit too quiet in some cases.

I found a way to do it in PulseAudio, but I don't think Debian's KDE build is compatible.

Slackware :: USB Headset - Volume Control On Them Stopped Working - Sound Works - Microphone Doesn't

Oct 29, 2010

When I started using Slackware I've been using USB headset. Everything ran perfectly fine. They got recognized, I could use all of it's functions and so on. Unfortunately volume control on them stopped working so I had to service them, and like in every third world country, yay I need to wait minimum three weeks just so they can press a button and say "Yup, they don't work".

I bought normal headset to use them while other one is getting fixed, and didn't expect any problems with them considering they are "old" technology, normal audio input and output.

Now problem is following, sound works fine but microphone doesn't. Once I managed to "fix" it by switching audio input from mic to something else and then back to mic, now even that doesn't work. Another... "problem" is if I leave my USB webcam plugged in while booting computer, there is no sound at all, ether on line ones or USB ones but I can easily solve that problem by unplugging webcam, rebooting and plugging it back in later.

Now everything ran fine until my computer shutdown while I was sleeping. Don't know why, but it started happening recently, don't see anything smart in logs so I assume its... something, read it could be cache, HDD, temperature and so on but since logs don't write down anything smart... will deal with it some other time.

When I talk I can actually hear myself on the headset, which probably means that they work. If I put mic boost all the way up, I can hear myself perfectly clear, but somehow... seems that that information just doesn't get to Slackware, well it gets somewhat considering that it reacts to me adjusting mic boost on KMix, but everything else... no.

Arecord doesn't record anything, TS register as microphone isn't plugged in at all, skype doesn't get any input ether.

Ubuntu :: Can Increase The Maximum Volume

Jan 22, 2010

I used to have Windows on my laptop, until I got the blue screen, so I just installed ubuntu. Well everything was ALOT louder on Windows, and I was wondering if there was a way to increase the maximum volume. I have to turn the volume almost all the way up to watch a movie. On Windows 1/4 volume was plenty. I searched, but alot of the answers I saw were that it was hardware limitations, which cant be the case, since it was a ton louder on Windows

Software :: Flac File Volume Increase ?

Mar 24, 2010

I converted all of my vinyl to flac format, but when I played them in mplayer, the volume was way lower than the mp3's that I downloaded. So, when I have them all in the playlist, I'll have my flac file at a good volume, then an mp3 comes on and blasts me. Is there a command line program that I can use where I can specify a new volume for the flac files? I wanted a command line program so that I can script this entire process. I do not want to sacrifice the quality of the songs that I encoded (at 96kHz).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.3 - Any Way To Increase Sound Level In Alsa

Sep 1, 2010

I have just installed OS 11.3 onto a lenovo desktop / Thinkcentre that previously had vista installed on it. With Opensuse I am having trouble getting much sound volume. With Vista the volume was fine but with Opensuse I have PCM, Master running pretty much on full. This gives me a respectable volume but I think there should really be more left in the tank from what I have it at. Is there any way to increase the gain in Alsa? The sound device shows in KDE as HDA Intel (AD198x) using xine backend.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a Sony Vaio EC laptop. I am having problems with my volume being very low under Ubuntu, even if I turn all the options to full, I can barely hear it. This happens both through the built in speakers and through headphones. I know it is not a hardware problem since both work fine in Win7 dual boot. Also, this problem occurs both in Rhythmbox and chromium.

Fedora :: Sound In F14 Very Scratchy And Can't Get Volume - Clearness / Fix It?

Jan 19, 2011

I've recently changed motherboards from a gigabyte ma785gmt-ud2h to an ASUS M488T-M/USB3. For comparative purposes, I have done a fresh install of both Win 7 and Fedora 14 - everything works well except that the sound in Fedora is very scratchy and I cannot get the volume or clearness I was used to with the previous board.

Is there a driver which will fix this problem, or is this a quirk peculiar to ASUS boards? (The sound in Win 7 is crystal clear, by the way - I'm starting to think that the board was designed with Win 7 in mind.)

(Sound still plays though, it seems that volume is at 100% while the bar in the middle reads 0%).

Debian Multimedia :: Sound Volume Low Despite Alsamixer At 100 Percent

Aug 1, 2010

I've got a Toshiba L650, Debian testing/unstable, KDE4.4.5. The sound worked when I first installed everything (played a movie in dragon player, etc), but shortly thereafter it stopped working. It seems like the hardware is okay (all hardware is recognized, all relevant modules loaded, volume in alsamixer at 100%, the system beep -- set in the BIOS -- works), but I still can't get sound to play. Once or twice, right before KDE shutdown, I could hear the exit sound, but that's it. Last night I exited KDE (without hearing a sound), shutdown kdm, then:

mv $HOME $HOME.backup
mkdir $HOME
and restarted kdm and kde...still no sound! I created another user, and still no sound!
