At the begining it was only for my personal use (and for the fun), and, it was only dedicated to automate updates of 32-bit part of the 32-bit compatibility layer (AlienBob's multilib). Afterward, I improved it, I added some features and now, it provides all the necessary for managing (converting,installing,upgrading,remove) of 32-bit part of the multilib, and others packages which are part of Slackware-32 like firefox, seamonkey, jre,. As I guess it could be usefull for others, I decided to publish it. So, if you want it, you can grab it at [URL]... But before that, I guess that you want to know a bit more about it. So, let's go. The installation of compat32pkg is done as for any Slackware package, using the command installpkg :

If you want to convert packages to format compat32 only, you have to use compat32pkg in mode --convert instead of --install :

Of course, there are many more packages actually. But anyway, I want to create a script that will upgrade all packages contained in the folder at once just by running the script.

Mar 23, 2011I have a brand new Slackware 13.1 x64 installation, and I'm having problems with slapt-get.
I'm unable to upgrade existing packages or install new ones. The output in terminal is:

Worth mentioning also, I managed to install Gnome from [URL] without any problems immediately prior to this error message starting to appear.
I've been using Debian and Ubuntu derivatives for the last couple of years, so I'm comfortable using the terminal and possibly doing some more advanced stuff.
Slackware :: Slackpkg Upgrade All Shows Outdated Packages
Jan 26, 2011I ran slackpkg update, then slackpkg install-new, then slackpkg upgrade-all. The menu shows pretty much every package that comes stock in slackware, and the ones that I looked at are all older versions than what I have installed. Is this how its supposed to be? or is my slackpkg bugging out?

If I use the shell and apt-get I get the following message: The following packages have been kept back: firefox-gnome-support update-manager
The system is functioning well, but these 2 packages just linger as I process probably hundreds of lucid upgraded packages.

Aug 12, 2010I noticed that the official Slackware packages don't contain static libraries. The SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org or from Slackware DVD usually contain --disable-static option to prevent building the .a file. And if configure script doesn't allow such option, the .a file is deleted before the package is created.I am wondering what is the reason for that? Is it just the matter of conserving disk space? Are there also other reasons?

Ubuntu :: Sleep Resume Making Login After Upgrade?
Jul 12, 2011I have upgraded from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.04 LTS after the upgrade, my netbook goes to sleep in a short period of time and makes me login every time i resume. This is very annoying as i have to wait for login and sometimes my wifi connection drops. I just quickly want to check my messages. The delay is annoying and has me using a windows (argh) laptop instead. i miss my ubuntu netbook.
i have tried adjusting power management setting to never go to sleep and adjusted some other power management module from the command line, but with no luck. is there a way to reset the sleep pref's or any way to fix this.
General :: Resizing 9.04 Partition / Making Space So Can Upgrade To 9.10
Feb 20, 2010I have 10 GB drive with win98SE taking 2 GB and 9.04 taking 2.3 GB, then the rest is unallocated space. I am trying to use upgrade manager in 9.04 to upgrade to 9.10 (I have 9.10 CD but it fails to install - tried to download it several times. I know upgrade manager solution works in principle, but upgrading to 9.10 says it needs another 1GB of space.
I have used 9.04 live disc to start GParted but there seems no way to resize the 9.04 partition to use the unallocated space - can only resize it down. Making the unallocated space a partition does not seem to help. How can I go from here to make enough space to upgrade to 9.10 and keep Win 98

Feb 26, 2011I would like to try making my desktop into a functioning web server on the web, if this is possible. The plan is to have web pages attached to a database where data provided by the users will be stored and to have programs that will process this data to generate new pages or PDF reports. I plan to user FireBird as the database manager and build the front end with Lazarus, if possible. My desktop is a small Acer with a 1TB hard disk. At the moment it has 1 partition containing Windows 7 which I would like to keep, for now. My internet connection is a phone company supplied standard residential high speed. Here are my questions, if this idea is actually possible:How should I partition the disk or is a root and home partition OK? When I install Slackware, is there anything special that I must do? How do I actually let the web know that this server exists? Are there any Slackware specific sites where I can learn how to do this type of stuff?

Jan 22, 2010I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?

Feb 28, 2010I have not been able to upgrade any of my 9.10 karmic packages for about a week now. I have attempted to do so using both the Update Manager Gnome tool and the terminal command "sudo apt-get upgrade". Using the terminal command gives me (at the end of the resulting process) the following:
"dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
" syntax error: unknown group 'Debian-exim' in statoverride file
"E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)"
I have tried:
#sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get check
#sudo apt-get upgrade
The first two of the above 3 steps work as expected. I get the reported failure message after the last (3rd) step every time.
The last thing I remember doing before I started having this problem was to upgrade Firefox to version 3.6 and Thunderbird to version 3.0.

Debian :: Can't Upgrade - All Packages Held
Mar 30, 2015Since I upgraded Gnash: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=115357 I can't upgrade anything. At least I think that's when it started.
In Aptitude, I have 176 "packages being automatically held in their current state", and 47 "packages being held back". When I updated the package list, there was a dozen or so lines that were yellow instead of green, but it ran too fast for me to read. I doubt that is important, but I try to give as much info as possible.
I'm running Debian Wheezy, 7.1.

Jul 23, 2010I ran sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade . It says that 3 packages are not upgraded. Thet are linux-generic, linux-image-generic and linux-headers generic. I have never had this problem when using sudo apt-get dist-upgrade since it is supposed to resolve all conflicts and other issues with upgrades. Can anyone tell me how I can upgrade those three packages?

Dec 13, 2010I have been running Ubuntu on my laptop since 9.10 by itself (not dualbooting Windows). I had no problems with it back then but I did notice that when I upgraded, not all the packages installed and I would get an error message saying so. I never thought much of it. The problem became apparent when upgrading from 9.10 to 10.4, I would get an error message everytime and the upgrade would be cancelled. This forced me to reinstall Ubuntu for both 10.04 and 10.10. As soon as I downloaded 10.10 I downloaded docky and chromium. Heres where my current problems arise:
- Docky (which worked in 10.04) wont work even after I download compiz.
- Every time I update the system, if i try to update chromium or anything else from google it cancels the upgrade.
- I tried using "sudo apt-get upgrade" in the terminal but I get
"Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened."

Jan 22, 2011I'm a bit confused with this: When I log on a server it says 6 packages can be upgraded. When I run apt-get upgrade though it says that 0 upgraded, 0 new installed, 0 uninstalled and 3 cannot be upgraded. Occasionally, when there are indeed more updates available than those 6 packages, upgrade works fine. I believe the server is up-to-date. Why is that?
