setpci: Missing width. Any hints as to what I'm missing? Would love to be able to get this to work.
Slackware :: Disable And Enable Ipv6 Connectivity?
May 7, 2011I just finished setting up my slack machine as a home server (printers & files) and I noticed that I have an IPv6 address (from ifconfig)... I didn't know I did. I used to work in tech support and when a windows or OSx machine didn't connect properly on a LAN, disabling IPV6 was a common troubleshooting step. Is there a way to easily turn inet6 connectivity off/on in Slackware? (I want to keep the ability to get an IPv6, we will all use those in the future)

NetGear WG511T pcmcia card using madwifiNetGear WPNT511 pcmcia card using windows driver via ndiswrapperSlackware 12.2In both cases the card is recognized, and I can get a list of access points with iwlist.I can set the card to connect to the desired access point. I can use dhclient to get an ip address from the remote dhcp server. This works, the card is assigned a valid ip address on the desired network.Once I do this, however, I cannot access any network resources, no Internet, and no other devices on the network can see, ping, or access my laptop. It does this with with both cards, using madwifi or the windows driver via ndiswrapper.

I am not looking for connecting instruments to computer and recording them, but I am looking for something that can compose music without using actual instruments.

Jun 25, 2011Wife's laptop has AR5001 Wireless Adapter laptop model is Toshiba Satellite A215
Problem : Wireless networking randomly loses connectivity and can not regain connectivity, the only apparent solution is a full power down , this is not even certain to work. The card works under Windows, she hates Windows. (I love her for this) I know it's not faulty hardware , because it will work for days on end under Windows without problems.
Things I've tried : madwifi drivers (any and all versions available) : These increase stability of the signal and seem to delay the inevitable however it still happens. When using these drivers the only option is to unload them modprobe -r then reboot then remove them again and re add them. It makes no sense why this works, and if I don't remove them prior to rebooting it will not work.
ATH5K drivers : These are pretty much junk, results are unpredictable at best, sometimes it will work perfectly for a few hours, sometimes it will not work at all. Nothing is repeatable, I can't seem to force whatever condition is causing this. rfkill does not show the wifi being blocked (hard or soft), unblocking it anyway does nothing, only way to make this work and it's iffy is to fully power down wait 5-10 minutes turn it back on and it MAY decide to work.
Firmware update : Updated the Toshiba BIOS to the latest version of the firmware 2.0 no joy here either. Same issue both sets of drivers.
Tried different distros and kernels : I've tried Mint 9, 10 ,11 ; Ubuntu 10.10, 10.04 , 9.10 and 11.04 (which is currently installed) , Fedora and OpenSUSE. All are giving the same problems. I have also tried a slew of different kernels no joy from any of them (I'm not at the computer with the issue now I will post exactly what kernel versions I've used when I have access to the machine).
Another useful bit of information, the hard switch to disable/enable wifi WILL disable it but turning it back on does absolutely nothing. The hotkey does nothing at all. The bios does not have an option to disable or enable the wireless card.
I will also post the typical lsmod , lspci , iwconfig all that good stuff when I get back to the computer in question. I'm probably just going to buy a PC card for it and give up on that one, but this is driving me insane and I would really like to see it resolved even if I do replace the hardware.

Feb 16, 2010there is notebook Asus M51T Series, Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic OS (regular upgrades), USB MIDI-keyboard Korg Nanokey, external USB sound card Native Instruments Audio 2 Dj and USB-MIDI-controller Numark Omni Control. With Nanokey there are no problems. Audio 2 Dj does not work normally, Omni Control at all has no driver in Ubuntu, if I have correctly understood.
For example, any application (for example a player) starts an audiostream. The sound is only the first some seconds. After that it turns to short series of clicks. Clicks chaotically appear and for lack of any prospective audiostreams. Thus built in sound card works normally.

Has anyone gotten Logger pro (Linux beta) to work w/ Fedora? I have tried alien the two .deb packages to .rpm's so it becomes installable.. The installation seems fine, But the app doesn't run (I think it was like segmentation fault or something... I don't remember) anyways.. this is not absolutely important. I'm just wondering if this may be a problem w/ my install.

Jun 26, 2011There is a basic driver for it. I was wondering if anyone got it to work. Or is there another card that has been used successfully, especially with recording from a microphone. I am getting poor input from the mic source. Levels are low and broken up. Extensive research has pointed to ALSA/PulseAudio not being able to fine tune all sound cards. I am using the onboard currently, an ALC262.
In the meantime I was tempted to set the priorities higher for sound in general, in other words tweak ALSA and PA. Reason being is that many across a few distros have problems when resources are squeezed, like the times when proc load is at or near 100%, for example. I do not know how to tweak sound. Does anyone know?
I still want to try the Titanium since it could be utilized in 7 (ouch) as a luxury for recording "what you hear", and for superior sound reproduction as well.

Oct 25, 2014I am trying to get my soundcard, Creative X-Fi Titanium HD, on my new Debian Jessie Beta 2 installation working. I can hear sound from the speakers and sound is getting recorded from my mic, but the output is somewhat connected to the input. I had the issue on my Windows installation and had to turn it down in my soundcard settings. But after playing around in alsamixer and trying to switch inputs and turning down/up the volume on different channels, I had no success fixing the issue.

Feb 21, 2010I just installed Karmic on a PowerBook G4 Titanium. The install went fine after I figured out that I had to set the date in the open firmware because the PRAM battery is dead. Now when I boot, I get a white screen with black text telling me it's found the display then the splash screen shows up but I never get the login screen, just a blank screen. I can switch to the virtual consoles and fool around, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

Oct 12, 2010I'm running Maverick right now, but the problem also occurs with Lucid. My sound card is a creative X-Fi Titanium (emu20k2). Audio playback is fine, surround is fine, etc. Audio capture is "fine" too - the problem is that the microphone picks up everything that the headset is outputting. This is very strange since the headset is a noice-cancelling headset and in order for that to happen on other platforms (windows) I essentially have to turn the volume up to astronomical levels. As always, this doesn't happen on windows.
Needless to say this poses somewhat of a problem with VoIP applications since folks I'm interacting with constantly hear themselves echoed back by me. The only solution is to tune down the microphone volume but that adds another problem: people can no longer hear me clearly.
So my question is: is there a way to enable echo reduction for Pulse Audio so that the mic doesn't constantly capture what's coming from the outputs? And yes - when I look at the "input" tab in the sound preferences application I can see the marker move if I speak - same with pavucontrol

I haven't had any luck getting it to work with the CentOS 5 system drivers so I went to their site and downloaded the driver for Linux (64 bit)[URL]... It fails to compile with the following error

Fedora Hardware :: Xfi Titanium Sound - Use 5.1 Analog Audio System
Jan 26, 2011I installed a fresh copy of Fedora 14 a few days ago. The default drivers for this device worked OK but I read on some forums that OSSV4 had improved performance/capabilities. I came across this thread on the forums which I followed. (incloded removing pulse audio) Since then I have visited almost every forum/site I can find to try to resolve my issue. I have reinstalled pulseaudio and editied almost all of the conf files I could find relating to the xfi cards.
I was worried that I may have changed a config file that I shouldn't have. I removed all of the pulse audio apps using: su -c "yum remove alsa-plugins-pulseaudio pulseaudio padevchooser pavumeter paprefs pavucontrol" and also removed the config backups so that on a new install they would be replaced. I will post any information needed to resolve this issue, my goal is preferably not to use pulseaudio and successfully be able to use my 5.1 analog audio system I am sure that the system is able to see the card, but loading the driver / sound utilities is not working.

Jul 7, 2010SB X-Fi Titanium has a FlexiJack: Mic/Line in combined into one jack. The windows driver sets the mode. Linux driver has no such feature and it always works as a mic input. So you cannot use it for "Line in". Just because of this I am going to have a new sound card.

Ubuntu Networking :: Different Connectivity Under Different Kernels?
Apr 19, 2010I use a laptop with a built-in WiFi card (Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] using iwl3945 module). It's OK but sometimes is not very stable, occasionaly it simply dies and I have to reboot. It was even worse but I improved it by applying a new driver.I also have a very nice USB WiFi card (D-Link System DWA-140 802.11n Adapter [ralink rt2870]). It's much better and faster.
So the problem is that in Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31) I can use only the built-in one. The other one (D-Link) also works but I can't make it connect to my router. The built-in card connects to it but the D-Link even does not list it among possible connections (but it lists other possible connections which I do not want to use).The funny bit is that this problem disappears when I use an old Kernel (2.6.28-18 ) : both cards work fine and can connect to the router at the same time (obtaining different ip's). I then disable the built-in one and happily use the external card.
Unfortunately the old Kernel has issues with sound and video, so I would like to use the latest Kernel with the external card. I tried WICD but it didn't change anything.I can add that under the old Kernel the USB card is used as a ra0 device while the new Kernel lists it as wlan1.

Apr 4, 2011I have an issue with my Dlink DWA 547 802.11n PCI adapter, I'm under LUCID fully updated.I have no trouble connecting to any wireless but after a few minutes I'm loosing the connectivity strenght (getting ping reply from my router that vary from 2ms to 200ms). But as soon as I'm rescanning the network using the command (sudo iwlist wlan0 scan) everything is fine (constant 1-2ms ping). I'm using wicd as network manager. I have tried to schedule a job in crontab to launch every 10min a network scan command, but didn't succeed to have it working, morehover I don't think that's the good way.

I am assuming that this is because of a driver issue, whether there is none or the old driver isn't compatible.
