Slackware :: How To Reset Xserver Configurations

I dont know much about linux, some basic console commands nuthing much, but I was setting up slackware for my server. The hardware was a bit old, so after making a new user and logging in, I tried my best to go into the theme settings, and change the current theme. Immedietly after hitting apply, It went back to console, and now startx tries to start xserver but crashes it. Is there a way I can reset the config? Possibly with the install cd?

I have an existing OpenSuse 11.3 (64 bit) box serving a couple of websites. I would like to enable Xen. Question - If I install Xen through Yast, will my existing configurations be reset and will I loose my existing data? Does Xen have to be installed on a clean system?

Simple (I hope) problem here, my xdvi configuration is wacky. It never shows the entire page, cuts off the left side of text. This happened after having to shut the program down a few times due to it hating me.
In any case, the root configuration file works perfectly, so I was wondering if someone knew how to
a) reset user configuration for xdvi to defaults, or
b) copy root configuration over to user.

I was looking into installing Gnome for Slackware 13.1 due to the instability of KDE and I was able to find GSB [URL]. I ran the simple installation: Code: lynx --source [URL] Everything downloaded and installed so I logged off, ran xwmconfig and set it to gnome and then tried starting my xserver and my screen turns black with a single white dash in the corner. My keyboard doesn't respond (the lock lights won't turn on) and I'm stuck on this black page. I tried changing xwmconfig back to KDE and the same thing happens

I've just recently install slackware 13.1 on IBM R40e laptop but every time i try to start fluxbox with
startfluxbox it just comes up:
However xdm works.
The specs of the computer:
IBM R40e 2684 L9G
2.4GHz Intel celeron processor
128MB ram
ATI radeon 330M 16MB integrated
30GB hard drive
DVD rom drive

Here goes the problem: I have a Amilo M7400 notebook with an Intel 82852/82855 GME video card, and X is a bit uncompatible with it.I've tried using the vesa driver in the xorg.conf, but when i start Xserver, it hangs hard in a blank screen. I can't open a new terminal and control+alt+backspace won't work.
what can i do? is there a log file for X which details the initialization of it?

i know that there is a reset button on the back but after reset i dont know what to do with it. right now i m using pppoe connection which only works in windows and bt4 and i want to make it run in slack 'cause now slack is my main os(66hr since i switched to it :0) so i want to configure the modem in a way that i work in slack. and i m dumb about PPP/TCIP/DHCP and btw i like "the" slack

Is it possible to reset my root password without installation CD?I have been read some that it is possible by edit LILO, but i'm just not sure yet how to do that...by click TAB first on LILO?and what parameter should i append on?Now i don't with my Slackware CD for in the next few days. Using slack 13.0 32-bit I have a dual-boot configuration with slack at sda1, sda2, sda3 and ubuntu 10.04 on sda6, sda7, sda8 When I boot into ubuntu, then boot back into slack, the date setting is change to '00.. something' (zero hours).

I'm running through an Emacs tutorial and I was trying to figure out how to exchange CTRL and CAPSLOCK.
1. From the Emacs Wiki, i saw

so, maybe stupidly I tried this. Which seems to have changed nothing.
so then I try

to try and get back to the default. Which doesn't seem to work. so then thinking i should reset everything, try to go in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty and do

Finally, I go into /etc/X11 and edit xorg.conf-vesa to uncomment

I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware

I am having a problem with new windows opening and becoming the focus right away. So when I am typing in one window, the other window opens up and now all of my text is going into the new window.....very very frustrating. I am able to change this on an older version of Fedora that I use at work, but I can not for the life of me find how to fix this on Fedora 11.

I have installed RHEL 5 in my pc with following configuration:

The problem is when I configure the network setting i.e.,Ip address, Subnet mask and default gateway, the pc becomes very slow. For opening the terminal it takes 20-25 seconds.

I recently bought an ASUS M32AD PC to upgrade from my eMachines T2893.The ASUS came pre-loaded with W-8.1 on a 1 TB HD. Whoop.I want to install the Master HD with deb7 from the eMach into the new unit, but there seems to be a problem. The drives have different connection configurations. Total surprise to me.

I just got installed ubuntu karmic koala 9.10 on my laptop and fiddle too much with the system configuration files. Now I notice that most of my permissions are not working in my login. How do I restore my Ubuntu setting, which are as good as freshly installed OS and also Not disturb any of my currently installed application on the system ??Note: I repeat "I really dont want to disturb my of my currently installed applications on my ubuntu and yet want to restore my system to freshly installed OS settings. All the applications that I have installed is a whopping 3 days of googling and hardwork in getting them working "Some of the freaky things happening in my system:

I had a successful dual boot with win 7 and ubuntu 10.04. I just moved computers from a dell XPS with a P4 to a Xeon. I switched the hard drives between the machines. As I expected GRUB somehow imploded on the idea and now only displays a cruel "No such disk" message. Anyways, I was hoping to tap into someones vast knowledge of grub and re-configure it. It would make my day. I am also using a LiveCD so any commands I would use must be able to work on a LiveCD

I've reinsalled ubuntu 10.04 no less than 5 times, each time taking hours to get all my configuration right, basically I like to mess to the point of screwing it up. Anyway just wondering if there was a way or program that remembers all of your preferences, files, games, apps, EVERYTHING! so you only have to load the file and it will do everything for you. Would save lot of time!
