Slackware :: Attansic Ethernet Not Working (L1 And L2)
Apr 28, 2011
I have read a few thread about different Attansic drivers and keep seeing L1 and L2. I have no idea which version of this driver I have. Wireless works just fine, but I would like to have the wired option. I am running 13.1 on an Asus EeePC 1001PXD, and here is my lspci

I just installed Slackware 13.1 on my new Toshiba satellite c650 and my ethernet device isn't working. I have tried to compile the driver provided by atheros but being a newbie i failed. I understand that there's a driver included in the kernel, so why isn't it loading? The info center list my PCI LAN card as "attansic corp device 2060".

i have 2 nic's that use the same 8139too module to be operated.so in order to run them i added in /etc/modprobe.d/a file with 2 aliases for the 2 nics alias eth0 8139too alias eth1 8139too and I added a udev rule to give the name eth1 to the 2nd card (the 1st card already had a rule) i still don't get the 2nd rule to be brought up automatically at start up... ifconfig only returns 'eth0' and i have to manually do 'ifconfig eth1 up' at which time the interface is brought up nicely.. then i do a dchpcd to get a network address and im all set. but i would like to do this automatically... note that i know that if i add static ips in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf i will get both ifs up... but i wonder how its gonna happen with the 2nics being 2 dhcp clients.

I have 3 computers connected via an ethernet cable to the same ADSL modem. Each has its own internet address and what appears to be a local address (10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.2 etc).
I would like to enable file sharing between the three but I don't want one of them to be a gateway for the others and I don't want any information that the 3 computers share to go out on the net.
So far, the slack book and man pages imply that years of research are ahead of me and none mentions a "gateway free" configuration.

I am really interested to configure my old desktop with Slackware 12 as a router. But unfortunately I did not found any other ethernet card (second) as Realtek 8029. (I need two ethernet cards according to the howto [URL]) It is possible to get up and running this card? I was googling a lot. I tried to use the ne2k-pci module. It seems that it was loaded successfully, but I cannot see my interface (eth1) with ifconfig.
lspci shows:

A friend gave me a version if Ubuntu called "Lubuntu" to run on an older laptop of mine. The laptop does not have wifi or an ehternet connection. However, While using windows I was still able to access the internet by using a PCI card which created a wired ethernet connection for the laptop. I was able to install Lubuntu on the laptop, but for some reason it is not recognizing, or even noticing, the PCI card. What should I do to get internet working on this laptop again?

system:
destop
openSUSE 11.4 KDE
single wired network connection
running as a headless server
upgrade from 11.1
Problem: I had a bunch network services running under 11.1 with KDE. Now after upgrade to 11.4 full network functionality is broken. I was using ifup but now is broken. Between ifup and NetworkManager I can demonstrate the full required range of functionality but not all at the same time (the union of functionality of each provides the full required functionality, but not individually). WOL does work in all cases.
With 'ifup', it seems that everything is 'working' as before, but services are broken when accessed from outside. eth0 up and fuctioning with statically assigned IP. Outgoing connections seem to work - I can browse the web. But trying to access services from outside is broken. VNC is rejected. Connecting to SMB shares reports login error. TFTP doesn't respond. SSH connection is rejected.
Although sometimes it will get in a state that everything except VNC works (connects but then is dropped upon login with "Error while waiting for server message") but I can't consistently reproduce this state other than it seems to happen after some extended period of time.
I have verified the firewall is off and apparmour is off.
On the other hand, everything works with 'NetManager' (both KDE and Plasmoid) with no other changes. The problem here is that it does not seem possible to set a static IP address - eth0 doesn't show up in the list of wired interfaces to be able to select and edit. That's problem 1 - I need a static IP. (I suppose I could reserve an address at the DHCP server, but a static IP works 100% to get the right address). The other problem is that neither NetManager starts at boot and only start _after_ login at the console - that won't work as I never log in at the console. (I suppose I could set it up to login automatically into a console or something but I would rather not)

my wired auto ethernet stopped working. It doesn't appear to be my machine or the hub as the connection is fine using windows on the computer.I'm a bit clueless on the Networking front in Ubuntu. I've brought up the Network Connections box and checked that the Mac address is correct (and it is). I've tried it on Lubuntu and Openbox, but still no luck. The only oddity I see is that the Network Connections box says that the auto ethernet connection has never been used .

I'm having a strange problem with my ethernet card. In previous installs of 10.10 on this same computer, I've never had any trouble with either my wireless or my wired internet. However, after messing around with some other distros, I recently did a fresh install of 10.10 on this computer, and now only wireless internet is working. When I plug in an ethernet cable, I do not get connected.
One difference between this install and the previous installs is that, previously, I had always installed while connected to the internet via ethernet. This time I did it while connected wirelessly. I've tried methods from other threads, but I've had no luck. In particular, I have trouble "make install"ing the official Atheros driver, and I've installed the compat-wireless driver atl1c, but I'm still not getting a connection.
Here is the relevant output of lspci -vv:
Code:

Region 2: I/O ports at 6000 [size=128]

Kernel driver in use: atl1c

After a reboot, my ethernet is now working. I don't understand, but I'm happy.

We have a server and a target board. Most of the times I am able to mount the server through network file system. But sometimes it is observed that mounting hangs. When this happens, it was noted that both ethernet interfaces are up. Now when I make one down, mount works properly. The interface which I made down was having dummy(default) IP address, gateway etc.

DEVICES:
atheros AR9485
realtek rtl8111/8168/8411
atheros-firmware and firmware-realtek are installed from repo.
ifconfig does not show the network devices:
ifconfig -a does show them, i ran the commands ifconfig eth1 up and ifconfig wlan1 up, which resulted in them showing when typing ifconfig, however both still are not working.
(ifconfig)Also eth1 is only showing an inet6 address not an inet/ipv4 address and wlan1 doesn't show any.
Checked the bios and noticed that network devices were enabled so i don't think its my bios.
Also ran a SystemRescueCd which i got from here: [URL] .... With this live cd, the networking was working.
Added:
Code: Select allauto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
allow-hotplug eth1
Now I get a net address...

I recently got Fedora 14 installed and much to my dismay my Ethernet adapter (Intel 82566DC) didn't work. This is left me disconnected from the internet and made it impossible to install any packages. Googling and searching the forums got me these bits of information: [URL]. From what I gather, the 2.6.35 kernel is at fault. So I can solve this by installing the most recent e1000e ethernet drivers. Long story cut short, it didn't work too well for me. I couldn't simply make+make install it, which demanded other packages to be installed first. These in turn had other dependencies. After several failed attempts and ideas I'm at my wits and end and left with two options:
1. Installing an RPM (hopefully it shouldn't have any dependencies). Is there a site where I can download the driver RPM directly? I can't install and use rpmbuild, because I can't even connect to the internet.
2. Waiting for a newer version of the kernel. How long will I have to wait and how easy will it be to update it, without internet connectivity?

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my HP dv6500, and neither the wireless won't work. I don't see any drivers under System >> Administration >> Hardware Drivers, and I can't connect it to the internet any other way when I'm running Ubuntu. I have just installed a generic PCI ethernet card into a fairly low powered system (Celeron 766MHZ, 512mb Ram, 40 Gb HDD, Generic sound and video). The card came with no drivers. I have since installed Ubuntu 9.10, and up to a point everything is fine and looks great. However when I connect an ethernet cable up to the PCI card (in the hope of connecting with the Internet), nothing happens. I am thinking that I need Ubuntu drivers for the PCI card ? or does Ubuntu 9.10 come with drivers and I need to go into the 'engine room' to sort it all out ?

I've set up 10.04 Server so that I could install directly to a command line, due to the fact that Desktop was crashing during the install every time. The installation goes fine, except for the networking portion. DHCP fails every time I try it. So I set up a static IP as an alternative. Once installation completes, none of the network-oriented tools (ping, telnet) work. I've tried pinging my router and I get 'Destination Host Unknown'. This is true if I change to a DHCP oriented setup as well.
The router sees that the machine is there, as indicated by the slowly blinking connection light meaning that it's hooked up to *something* but there's no activity. Also, networking did work within Windows before I nuked it, so I know it has the ability to operate correctly. I'm at a loss, mostly due to my own newness and ignorance of how to start tackling this within this environment.

Version: Ubuntu 10.04 Relavant hardware: P5QL Pro built-in ethernet, cable modem with linksys wireless-G router (although problem is with ethernet connection, not wireless)
One minute my ethernet was working, and the next it stopped working. The only thing that I did between it working and not working was install electricsheep from Synaptic and then I shut down the computer. When I restarted a bit later, no ethernet connection shows up.
I checked the cables, made sure they are in tight.
My laptop connects using the same ethernet cable fine. So its not the cable or the router.
I reset the router and the computer at the same time. Still doesn't work.
I don't know where to even start with troubleshooting this sort of problem. Everything to the extent of my computer knowledge seems to be working fine.

I upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu a few months ago, and ever since then, the ethernet connection to my router stops working when I restart the machine. It eventually comes back, but after varying amounts of time. Sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes 2 days.
Restarting the computer and cycled reboots of the router don't seem to have any beneficial effect, at least that I can detect.
The light for the slot on the router does not light up like it normally would, so it's almost like the OS doesn't even recognize the network card.
Ubuntu 10.4,64-bit. Dell XPS 410.
