Server :: Set Joomla Server To Send Email?
Oct 15, 2010
I have installed Joomla on an Ubuntu 10.04 Server pc. The Ubuntu server is connected to my Novell NetWare network via static IP. I need the Ubuntu server to send mail to my mail server through smtp, my entire network has static IP's. The Ubuntu server does not need to receive mail only send, I have found that I could try use sendmail, postfix or exim4. I tried Exim4 but I am battling with the setup. For my situation what would be the best to use? What config's are most important to set?

Have someone used Linux heartbeat to send email when the Slave server becomes the Master? I've read I can configure the MailTo under.
But I really don't know how to do it. I basically need my primary server to send an email when it becomes inactive and all the activities are manage by the secondary node.

Debian 5, apache 2.2 I've got Apache up and hosting multiple sites. Each site will have a php contact me page that will simply dump an email to a fixed address. What program should i be using to accomplish this? I've used nullmailer before but that assumes you have a fixed smarthost somewhere which I don't.

I'm rather (VERY) inexperienced when it comes to Linux, but Fedora 14 is the environment I have to use on my laptop at work, so please forgive any dumb that comes out of me.
How do I tell php to send an email with mail() using an external mail server?
The situation: I've got apache/php running a webserver on my local machine. It's for dev purposes only, and the website files I'm using are checked out from our SVN. This lets me make changes to our website while not actually changing our website.
I've come across an issue I'm fixing where I need to verify that an email is successfully getting sent out, and unfortunately, this email is sent out using php's mail(), and not our website's usual $mail object. Unfortunately, I don't have the authority to change how this sends out right now, just when it sends out.
I've been running everything fine on my machine for a month now, and haven't needed the mail stuff until now. How do I tell php to send an email using an external server?

I've come across a strange issue where any email address that I email with mail returns an error "Bad Address"
Fairly new Centos 5.4 Install, sendmail is the MTA.
Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 03:28:30 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
DNS is working fine so there isn't a problem.
[root@hn1 /]# host -t mx iol.co.za
iol.co.za mail is handled by 10 mg1.iol.co.za.
iol.co.za mail is handled by 10 mg2.iol.co.za.
iol.co.za mail is handled by 30 vulpix.iol.co.za.
Yet when I try to use mail it fails:
[root@hn1 /]# which mail
/bin/mail
[root@hn1 /]# ls -lrth /bin/mail
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root mail 83K Jan 7 2007 /bin/mail
[root@hn1 /]# mail -s "test" bob@mydomain.co.za
Bad address
Nothing in the maillog.

I want to create a shell script that generates a file and then sends it via email from my Ubuntu desktop by using my Exchange 2003 Server which is on a separate windows machine on my network. I do not have an smtp server set-up so that is one of the reasons I want to go this route. The other is because I will be able to sync the emails sent from the exchange server.

A question that I've asked myself (and google) many times but never got to an answer.Scenario:ServerA) postfix Primary MXServerB) postfix Backup MXAccording to the rfc a source mailserver can decide where to send email e.g.send an email to backup even is primary is reachable up and running.So my questions are: 1) how do I (live I mean) replicate messages arrived on any server to the other?2) How do I synchronise sent messages, message deletion, folder creation/deletion.Imapsync goes half way towards the solution but it needs to be run manually one off and you must specify source and destination.All I wanted really is a user to be able to use either server without having to worry about primary/secondary or what so ever.

I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.

I'm trying to write a script that will continuously ping a server and then send out an email when the server is down, and then when it is back up. Then, continuing with monitoring. I would like to not run this in cron, because I don't want to script to run with multiple instances.
For example,
Ping a server every minute.
-If successful, do nothing.
-If failed to ping, then send out email stating that server is down.
-Once ping is successful, then send out email stating that server is up.
I only want it to send an email once after a failure, so the end user isn't get an email every minute that it fails. Once it is successful, then send the email (one time), stating that the server is up. Then, continue to ping and if fails again, repeat the process.

My company email server has been working flawlessly for the last 5+ years. Recently, one of our clients put their email server behind a firewall (an assumption on my part; details below). Ever since, email sent from within the company (192.168.xxx.xxx internal address; all computers and server is behind a NAT firewall [Netgear FVX538]) is either being sent to the client after some delay (if email is sent using Outlook) or is being deferred until the messages expire (Thunderbird, Squirrelmail, etc.). Email sent to the client from anywhere outside the company (using Thunderbird, Outlook or any other email client) is also delivered without any problems (usually after a short delay).
All other emails to the World are being sent without any problems at all (both inside and outside the company; using any email client or webmail). I did contact the client's postmaster, but the client, being a large government agency, will probably not address the problem (if it is on their side) anytime soon. I am not sure if I can do anything from my end to solve the problem. Ever since the problem with the client began, I added two statements to the postfix configuration file (smtp_pix_workaround_delay_time = 20s and smtp_pix_workaround_threshold_time = 0s); this seemed to a bit - it reduced the delay for emails sent via Outlook to a few minutes (as opposed to 30+ minutes); emails sent using Thunderbird/webmail are still being deferred.
Server details: Dual quad-core processor machine, 32 GB RAM, dual 1 gbps network, running Fedora 14 (64-bit; loosely modeled along the lines of Perfect Server (with ISPConfig2) as described on the howtoforge website). Running Postfix (v. 2.7.1), Dovecot (v. 2.0.9).
Postfix details:
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
body_checks = regexp:/etc/postfix/mbl-body-deny
broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes
command_directory = /usr/sbin
[code]....
I emailed the client's postmaster suggesting they disable smtp fixup. But still, what bothers me now is that Outlook works (both within and outside the company) while Thunderbird, webmail, etc. (used by ~90% of the users) do not. In addition, all email clients from outside the company can send email (authenticated via the company server) to the client without any problems. Is there anything I can do on my end to make non-Outlook clients work within the company (webmail is hosted on the company server; so, it would have an internal address as well)?

I just set up a new email server on Debian Lenny. It's Postfix for MTA and Dovecot for IMAPS server. I use Dovecot for authentication. I have two UNIX users on the system (except root), one was added before the installation of Postfix and Dovecot. I'm not doing any virtual things, just plain UNIX users and one domain on a dynamic IP. The first user, "webadmin" can send and receive emails just fine through the server from my mail client.
Now I just added a new user, "scarleo", and it turns out I'm unable to send and receive emails with this account. If I log in (SSH) with scarleo I can use bash mail to send emails, works fine. scarleo can also receive emails from webadmin and can connect to Dovecot to read emails. However scarleo cannot send or receive to or from anyone outside the server from my mail client. I have restarted both Postfix and Dovecot after adding the user. Do I have to do something else to make this account work like webadmin's?
A few relevant lines from mail.log: (I've modded my real IP)
Code:

I've got a Joomla website made for me. It is hosted with a hosting company. Here and there i change some of its content, but i want to practice it locally on my computer before i do bigger things on the web, so that if things get into a serious problem it is close at hand to fix it up. I've installed apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. also, I've installed Joomla up and running.
My question is: how do i transport/copy my website from the web into my computer?
I know that I need to transfer the database, where do i put it in my local file system, and what additional commands are required for that?
I know that I need to transfer the public_html, where do i put it in my local file system, and what additional commands are required for that?

I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication.Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?
