I had a problem with qmail-smtpd which didn't want to start, throwing a segfault.
Now, it starts but it doesn't live more than 1 sec. I can send emails but can not receive them.

I am aware that there is a qmail-ldap package to have ldap back end for qmail. But I need only user authentication for qmail through ldap (not the backend; i.e still keeping Mysql as the database). I am pretty new to mail server configuration. I have just configured a (q)mail server (which is currently my sand box) and am able send and receive emails. I am planning to add ldap authentication (just that) to it. Can anyone point me to the right direction?

We recently got word from a customer that he received a "451 error - can't connect to server" message from Postini - stating that the server is unreachable. This does not happen often so obviously Postini can connect to the qmail server. Are there logs that I can look at to find out why and when these would occur?

Don't really know what could be causing this, the other day my messages in queue was at like 5,000 or so, but now its up to 445,000 messages in queue!! All of them that exact message.
I am doing this project for our school. Basically we want to pipe all incoming emails to a script which filters out certain messages (not only spam but duplicates, large messages, etc). If they fail certain criteria, the script simply does nothing.If they pass , then the script should pass the entire message (headers and body) back on to qmail to send. The piping part is not a problem, but I am stuck with the next part. Is there a way to pass the headers and body back to qmail for it to process and send, as if it received it the first time?Some details:A catchall email account is created via Plesk control panel on linux (centos).THe .qmail file in /var/qmail/mailnames/domain.com/catchall/ is edited to include the line:-|/path/to/pipe/handler.phpThe handler.php file simply reads the entire message (headers and body) and they are then parsed and analysed.

It is my daily routine to check the cpu utilization using top command and by using top different processes can be viewed. the apache process after 1 or 2 days shows cpu utilization of 100%. There is no affect on the server whatsoever of 100% because mail server has 2 processors of 4 core, i think so that may be the reason. Can any one explain why is this happening. What i do after that is i restart the httpd process and cpu utilization comes to normal. What are the reasons behind this and how to solve this permanently.

I have installed rpm and source packages before with little trouble by following the guides available on the support site and wiki for centos.I am running centos 5.4 on a virtual server.I followed the guide for installing vpopmail at URL...mailSince this is a VPS server I cannot install gnome and is why I opted for vpopmail + qmail.
The first issue I have is: I don't know how to tell qmail to start up automatically because after the install of qmail from source as the guide told me to, it did not place a startup files in the /etc/init.d, and I can't find any useful documentation on how to trouble shoot that.I try to use "chkconfig qmail on" and "chkconfig --level 345 qmail on" but both give me the error "error reading information on service qmail: No such file or directory"The version of qmail I am using is the latest 1.0.3, and the version of vpopmail is 5.5.
Vpopmail seems to be working just fine, as is the mysqlauth mod. I check the vpopmail database in mysql, and all the values I used for the domain and user show up there.The settings also show in the qmail configuration directory files for the domain.My first clue as to something being wrong was that when I send an email to the address I setup, I get nothing delivered on the server, but I also do not get any bounce backs or errors to tell me the details of what went wrong.At first I figured it was my firewall, so I disabled iptables.That did not fix it.I also tried disabling SElinux. -It writes the subject inside the message.
-It writes the From inside the message.
-It does not show HTML when it append the original message.
So I want to have my subject written in the mail subject instead of RE:. Also I want to be able to show HTML inside the auto replay mail.

The issue is if any one send email to abc@ourdomain.com (abc@ourdomain.com the email address which is not exist) it should send failure notification i.e."email does not exist" to the sender. View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to setup a qmail server for learning purposes (if you strongly feel Postfix is better, feel free to let me know). When I started setting up qmail (using Life with qmail), it suggested that having a DNS is the best approach. In the spirit of learning, I decided then to create another server for DNS only, and use that for qmail.
My problem is that, as this is a home installation, the internet is behind a Netgear DG834Gv5 router, on a DSL line that has a dynamic IP address. I am using DynDNS, but also don't mind having to update any DNS entries to keep up with the change, this is not exactly a production-grade setup.
In addition, I also have access to another DNS server where I can create authoritive entries for any domain I register. I have done that for a domain, and would like to point part of that to my home DNS so that I can learn.
So essentially, I would like to have a new zone for home.mydomain.org on my home DNS so that I can create new entries for *.home.mydomain.org such as qmail.home.mydomain.org etc. there.
I assume that this would include port forwarding on the router which is not a problem, but I truly have no clue where to start. I have a very basic install of Cent-OS 5.3 (no X and just Base a few admin and dev tools) and just installed the latest RPM of bind (9.3.x).
is qmail server running in the secondary office and it was working fine. yesterday qmail suffered some problem.i came to know about the problem today.now after troubleshooting and looking into the server, the qmailclt stat commands shows that all services are working and there is nothing going crazy in the server. The maillog is showing errors which i am pasting here for the convienance.
