Sep 9, 2010i have configured ldap server on a Debian5. But Am failing to import base.ldif, mygroup.ldif and myuser.ldif into my ldap database. How can i do that?

Nov 4, 2010I have read the man of ldif .In my attempt to build my current directory, I have taken a dump of my last successful implementation (which was created on FreeBSD 8.1) and substituted values for the dc=company and dc=com values with the correct ones for the current directory (attempting to implement under CentOS 5.4) and even tho the correct schemas are in place it is choking on entry.

May 11, 2011I am currently learning an African language. As I have been learning it, I have put together a dictionary, which I made as an openoffice database, so I could search and edit as necessary. Unfortunately, it now has several thousand entries and grinds to a complete halt if I try and search it. For now I have exported the data into a pdf which means I can look words up, but it doesn'tan alternative programme which would cope better with this much data and be easy to set up? Ideally one I can export my current data into.

Jun 30, 2011I am running RHEL5 and I have just upgraded my RPM software manager from RPM version 4.4.2 to RPM version 4.9.0 (the latest version) by doing a clean install of v4.9.0. The version 4.4.2 came with the RHEL5 and at the moment is very old so I cannot install certain newer rpms. I followed the INSTALL instructions that comes with the tarball for V4.9.0. The problem is the new install (i.e. RPM V4.9.0) has no knowledge of my old RPM manager i.e. V4.4.2, hence it does not know of the rpm packages installed on my system.
I think the problem is that the V4.9.0 is a new install rather than an upgrade (There are no instructions on how to perform a 'real' upgrade). I have tried to rebuild the rpmdb for v4.9.0 but that does not help and I have no idea how to import the data from v4.4.2 database to v4.9.0 database. My question is, how do I import the database from RPM manager V4.2.2 into RPM manager V4.9.0 or how do I 'upgrade'properly from V4.4.2 to V4.9.0. I have trawled the internet for some guides but there does not seem to be anything regarding this.

With some digging, it seems that I can't access the database that housed my posts (wordpress installation). I looked for the datadir in MySQL and that directory shows the wordpress directory that should be holding the database and all the files are still there. 1) why the database no longer shows up 2) how to restore the database from the files?

Sep 22, 2009I have a router that is 1000 Base T and two computers each with ethernet cards that support 1000 Base T. All are equipped with Cat 5e cable. Before I had a router that only went up to 100 Base T and I would setup one box with linux running proftpd. On the other box,I would use win xp pro and use firefox to ftp into the other box and download a file. Download speeds went up to 11.2 MB/sec. Now when I switched routers, I expected something like 120 MB/sec but I'm only getting 5.3 MB/sec. What do I need to change?

Dec 30, 2010I'm trying to install a box with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server with a typical LAMP system in order to replace my old Ubuntu 8.04 server I have at my school to have a "backup" system and also trying to replace NIS authentication with LDAP. Well I'm getting stuck on the first step: installation of base system. I want to build a RAID-1 system with the two 320GB SATA HD's the machine has, I have a little experience in installing RAID because I installed my old 8.04 server with RAID-1 aswell. I boot my box from an USB stick with Ubuntu 10.04 Server 64bit, the systems boots well, asks me about language, keyboard and so, finds the two NIC cards and the DHCP configuration of one of the card is done.
Then it starts the partitioner. One of the HD's already contains three partitions with an installation of a regional flavour of Ubuntu, the other HD only contains a partition for backups, I don't want to preserve all this stuff, so the first thing I do is to replace the partition tables of both HD's with a new one. This is done without problems. Then I go to the first disk, by example, and create a new partition, the partitioner ask me for the size, I write 0.5 GB (or 500 MB), then I select that it has to be a Primary partition at the beginning of the disk, all goes OK.
Once created I go to the "Use as: " line, type Enter and select the option "Partition for RAID volume", when I hit Enter the error appears: the screen flickers in black for a second or two, then it shows a progress bar "Starting the partitioner..." That always get stuck at 47%!!! Sometimes the partitioner allows me progress a little further (for ex. lets me activate the boot bit of the partition, or it allows me to make another partiton, even once the error didn't appeared until the first partition of the second HD!!) but it always get stuck with the same progress bar at the 47%.
I've tried a lot of things: I downloaded again the ISO and rebuilt the USB, same result. Downloaded the ISO and rebuilt the USB from another computer, same result. Unplugged all the SATA and IDE drives except the two HD's, same result. Built a CD-ROM instead of an USB, same result. Downloaded the 10.10 server ISO (not an LTS), and the USB stick can't boot, is another error, but only to try.
When the error appears, I hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 and get into a root prompt, there I kill two processes: /bin/partman and /lib...don'tremember/init.d/35... and then when I return to the first console the progress bar has gone and the install process asks me at wich step I want to return, I hit "Partition disk" and then the progress bar reappears and Stucks immediately at 47%!!! Is the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server installer wrong?

Nov 25, 2010I am installing server 10.04.1 (non-gui) on an old Dell box. All goes well until it gets to the point of "Install the base system". I get a dialog "Media Change" with asks: Please insert the disk labeled 'Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100816)' in the drive /cdrom/ and press enter. I thought that was the disk I had inserted. I looked at the disk in another machine and it appears to be labeled simply "Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 LTS i386". I did a check of the media before starting the install and have even tried a different DVD reader in the machine as I thought it might be an issue with the drive failing to read the disk. I again and again get the error shown above.

However in my case, there is an existing samba server where users have already set their passwords. Now comes a new samba server on another machine to serve the same set of users. Is there a way to just import the passwords from one samba to another, in "stay encrypted" form (the /etc/shadow can be separately imported). I looked at /var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb but it has the hostname (share name?) coded in it and that might be a confusion to just copy the file in whole.

The system was fine for like 3 weeks until recently when it started slowing down. Apparently, eveything is normal when you are accessing the server, for example when you are browsing on the database web interface; but problem is when you start working in the database, when you try submitting into the database, its really slow on processing, i have to first restart the mysql;
Could it be RAM? or the SQL itself?

Mar 18, 2010I'm looking for a way to put a MySQL database in a server's memory. The disks aren't fast enough to keep up with the usage and I don't feel like going for a splitted web&db server yet because of the costs.
Because this involves risks (unless there's a way to read from the memory and write to the memory AND disks?), so I'd prefer that the DB gets copied automatically every hour or so to the local disks.

Apr 19, 2011I've installed PostgreSQL on Arch Linux & also self generated self signed certificates in /etc/ssl/ directory. My PostgreSQL 'data' directory is /var/lib/postgres/data & I've edited my postgresql.conf file to use SSL however I'm having permission / access problems starting my database using SSL. It can't access the certificates and errors out when I try and start the database engine:

Nov 18, 2009I am looking for ideas for getting windows users into an ldap server. I am currently running a Linux server for my department and need to create an LDAP server which mirrors the username/password information for all of us as they are stored in the windows server here. I have the openldap server up and running on Ubuntu 8.04 and it works great; I now need to find some way to import user info into this from windows. I've seen discussions of using ldifde.exe to export the AD users into an ldif file. Is this the simplest way to go about it?
Our Linux server is currently providing us with much needed services using apache, and apache is authenticating using LDAP to our windows server (Using our windows username / password is required functionality). This windows server has some problem which causes it to delay for inordinate amounts of time between authentication requests and responses. The situation is such that this problem will not be addressed by IT staff. However, I have control over the Linux server so I am looking to just mirror the windows server on an LDAP server of my own. I could get away with updating the passwords in the Linux server.

I am facing a problem and discussed it on zabbix forum. my post was as "My zabbix server is behaving abnormally, approximately daily from 9 to 12, the server stop accumulating logs. I observed that the server report is RUNNING but it did not accumulate log values and also the machine have no extra load. I was able to export the database from my localhost.
