Server :: How To Monitor All Webapplications

Dec 21, 2010

I have a doubt in monitoring all my web applications.Actuallyhave about 20 web applications hosted through tomcat in our server.How to monitor all those applications at a time,whether it is up or not . Do we have any options in operating system itself for monitoring using logs.Because all those applications were accessed by clients and we should intimate the client first about outage in case of any problem in accessing our web application.

Server :: Setup PC Without Monitor Or Keyboard?

I'm working as contractor at 3M and would like to reduce my baggage when I move.I will probably boot Debian on USB flash and access the machine with SSH, but my main dilemma will be how to setup the system while trying to avoid buying a keyboard and monitor. I can test the USB boot on my laptop, but I will need a way to diagnose problems. Beeping the speaker so I know the system is at a certain state would be a clumsy solution, assuming the motherboard even has a speaker.

Server :: Monitor When Users Get Too Much For Bandwidth?

May 17, 2010

when the server is getting overloaded with users. At present I run the server mainly as a proxy server with about 100 users. The bandwidth at the data centre is 100Mbps connection with total bandwidth used last month = 17431.16 MB

I would like to add a VPN in future but feel that this might overload the bandwidth as instead of it just being web traffic it will the entire client TCP connections. I would like to monitor this before it gets to the stage where users are complaining but not sure how to gauge whether the proxy is being overloaded. It is used mainly for video traffic.

However, since the upgrade vino-server will no longer run if there isn't a monitor attached. Before it used to start up without a problem. Even by attempting to run the server via SSH gives me a "could not load display" error. Ubuntu Servers :: Headless Server Won't Detect Monitor?

Aug 29, 2010

I've got a headless server (32 bit 9.04/9.10, can't remember) that started refusing SSH and HTTP connections a few days ago, and I'm just getting around to hopefully fixing it. The problem is that I can't even connect to the darn thing. I've plugged in a mouse, keyboard, and monitor, but the monitor tells me that it has no signal. I know the monitor works with the computer, as I used the same one to set up the server.

Just for kicks, I even tried to put in a live CD, but that didn't help. Any ideas on how I can connect to this thing?

General :: Monitor The IP Address Of Machines Who Are Accessing The Server?

May 7, 2010

I have developed a website. Now i would like to monitor the IP address of machines who are accessing the server. The simplest possible solution to this that comes first into my mind is to use jsp inbuilt tags.

Code:
<%
out.print( request.getRemoteAddr() );
out.print( request.getRemoteHost() );
%>

but it has given me some other IP address(May be a proxy server's ip address)

So i was left with one choice is to run netstat on host server . Here is what i have done.

Code:
netstat -an | grep 8080 (As tomcat runs on port 8080).

Should i modify the command or there is any other way around to monitor the IP address?

Server :: How To Monitor That CIFS File Systems Are Mounted

Jan 14, 2010

We recently had an issue with "cat /proc/mount" telling us that a CIFS file system was mounted, even though the mount was not working correctly. So we're not sure if we can trust linux to report malfunctioning mounts, so we're planning on adding a specific file on the mounted file system, and verify the mount by reading this file from the client side (linux). If linux fails to read it, we know that the mount have failed. But before we go ahead doing this I thought I'd just hear how others are doing this sort of thing - how do you make sure that mount points are up and working?

- kenneho

EDIT: I just saw that I've posted in the security area, not in the server area. How do I move it?
