I would like to monitor a RedHat via snmp. I would like to make available data via snmp. The data that I would like to graph are only present in logs file. Is it possible to parse data from applicative logs and have them available for my cacti server via snmp? I already monitor CPU, mem, and others with cacti using the standard MIB.What would be the logical step I would need to achieve that?
View 1 RepliesI am using orion snmp monitor in my network and I have no problem with windows systems but linux systems have some problem first of all snmp monitor shows cpu load on 100% all the time that is completely wrong and secong my snmp monitor can just show cpu and memory and response time information of linux systems and not disk information and nothing more. this is my /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file content:

View 2 Replies View Relatedpolicy is to backup mysql with mysql-zrm.However at a certain stage it hangs forever. This is at the "flush logs". I tried this manually and it gave the same result. Even after restarting mysql and the host. After some googling and trying I found out "flush tables with read lock" gives the same result. The tables seem to be MyIsam. I tried with a mysqldump on one server and restore it on a test vm. I used the same config and flush logs still hangs. ALso I tried to change some configuration directives... but with the same result
Edit: btw, I checked the logfile and didn't found anything (/var/log/mysqld.log)
Edit2: I also did myisamchk -s *.MYI (in all direcoties with db files;actually did it with find command) and it did not return anything so datafiles seem ok.
I am trying to configure SNMP server using xinetd on red hat. I am using non-standard port for it. My connection to server fails. I see the following log messages in /var/log:

For this graph, it's only work for ~3 cycles (15min), then... nothing.

My question is, how I can install additional mibs ( for Cisco, Procurve, etc ) for other hw I could have ? What is procedure. I browsed debian package base and I could not find some more packages related to snmp that could supply more mibs.
We have a situation where we have to set up a server to send traps with information regarding CPU, memory usage, etc. I know snmpd can be set up to allow another process to request snmp information about the server, but can it be done the other way around (have a host send information about itself to another server through snmp)?

I Have RHEL4 running on IBM X3550 server, we request IBM support regarding issues with this server, they will request for IBM DSA logs. The logs are quite extensive and cover almost all server config & can identify hardware issues with drivers...etc. I want to know if there is a way to analysis those logs offline without sending them to IBM support?

1) Web server running vBulletin.
Dual Intel E5620 @ 2.40GHz (shows 16 cpus)
12 GB RAM
2 x 500 GB SATA (one for system/web and other for backups)
CentOS 5.6 64 bit
Apache/2.2.17
PHP 5.2.16
2) MySQL 5.server

MySQL 5.0.77
Web server connects to MySQL using private LAN.
Web-php server works with xcache as recommended by vBulletin.
Image/avatars and other static files (css, js, etc) are on a CDN
MySQL server uses Memcached for caching common queries.
The problem I'm facing, is from time to time (let's say one or two times a week) the Web server goes into read only mode... then the server has to be rebooted in order to get online normally and be able to work. From the logs I've seen this:

This is a new server, and in the old server the 'read only mode' issue happened very often too... so I guess it's not a HD issue.. it's just the HD have a heavy I/O usage. What do you think?
I am thinking about this solutions to improve the webserver performance:
1) 75% of the vbulletin users are anonymous users, so I've been thinking about using Cloudflare as a cache for all that traffic, that would reduce the php-webserver process a lot.
2) Using an external email server is a good option I guess... as right now the webservers also handles the email notifications for all the vbulletin users and it is constantly sending email everywhere. So, email will be stopped to gain server performance.
3) Mounting partitions with 'noatime' at /etc/fstab seems to improve I/O performance.

I belong to a fly fishing club. We have tapes of fly tying sessions dating back to 1992. Since we are registered as an educational charter with the state, I would like to make the available to our web sight viewers for learning.The club owns all these tapes and they were filmed at club sponsored functions. View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are forwarding logs (perl script executed logs) to one Red Hat Linux box. We have to get 97 logs for each time the script runs. But we see inconsistent number of logs coming to Linux box. Like one time we got 56, other time 3 , other time 43.. like this.. We are sure that 97 logs are being forwarded. Checked the Rsyslog.config filer any filters and couldn't see any filter dropping them. When we run the tcpdump, we can see 97 connections, but logs are not there in specified location.
