I want to make a FTP server with web frontend for administering it, eg creating users, groups, setting which directories users can access and so on.I found some web frontends for proFTPd, like those URL... , bus all of them seems to be very old and doesn't work nicely. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using an older redhat system (2.6.9-22.ELsmp) here which is running an older mysql (server version: 4.1.12). I don't think that's the source of the problems. I believe that have understood things rightly when I say that the mysql root user is unrelated to the linux root user ... in my case I believe the root user to be the unix user mysql. So when I connect to the server (local host from a local terminal) I use:

This gets me on, however I seem unable to do anything like create database or alter privilege. I wonder if its related to my finding no database called mysql?

Although I understand that show databases will not show things I have no priv to see. Does this mean my settings for the users are all screwed? How do I rectify this situation? Some other (perhaps) useful information.

and also how do you find the your own nameserver numbers? would that just be the IP of my web server?networking isn't my forte, but i do intend to learn with this project.
I've been able to kludge a kill script which finds the correct pid for the kdeserver (or gnome server) after my system comes up in run level 5 so I can drop back to run level 3 mode. Lots of experimentation showed me that using telinit 3 and telinit 5 would occasionally leave the video memory in a mess and I would have the black screen of death.
I set the security parameter setting to autologin for me since I am the only user of my machine, but I still have to kludge the default setting under sysconfig (the DEFAULT_WM) under Window Manager to pick a certain window manager, so it takes time to manually switch the desktop.
Right now I can leave the gui and drop back to cli, but painful experimenting showed me that killing the X server is a no no. Right now I kill the kde server, which sends the SIGTERM to the X windows manager, which then figures out that it has to shut down.
Questions: Is there a better way of doing this? Apparently openSUSE figures that we have multiple users logging into the gui desktop, so the gui is always kept running and a login window with the desktop manager option forces the user to login in. With autologin, this never happens, but no choice of desktop is possible on the fly.
Can some type of script be set up to painlessly enable this to happen? And what is the best way of bringing either the Gnome or KDE desktop manager down gracefully? I do get lots of error messages as the system attempts to recover and X shuts down. It appears that apparently the single user with autologin is left out in the cold.

The problem is it has instructions to install the software as an administrator since i'm not an admin of the department network i can not able to install. hello everyone, im having a problem when my computer enters in the run level 4 as the default when i start slackware. The strange thing is that it not seems that is a X window problem, it looks like more like a configuration problem in some part of the kde script to initialize the log in, because if i manually start the X service it works fine, i dont know what is the source. Hi Guys,
here is my scenario:
I am running F10 x86_64 with Nvidia Quadro FX 3400.
I installed the drivers and it worked just fine. No errors generated according to Nvidia log files.
However, while in run level 5 when I try to switch to run level 3 by typing "telinit 3" or "init 3" the X server goes down and I get a blank screen. Same thing happens when I try to switch to a different tty session by <ctrl>+<alt>+F2 (or any F key for that matter).
I also noticed that when I shut down my system I can't see any more the screen where services are shutting down and their status ([OK] or [failed]).
Would appreciate your help on solving this issue.

However, when I start in single mode, it works perfectly. I have tried looking for a solution from google, but in vein.

I currently store my backup files onto 2 HDDs that I have in external USB enclosures, one is 1.5TB and the other is 2TB. They both basically mirror each other, but is done by manually copying files onto one and then the other. My goal is to have a Raid level 5 system and I know that level of Raid is a minimum of 3 disks so I'm wondering what my current options are with Raid level 5 in mind.
I can immediately wipe out one of the two drives I currently have with the second requiring some time to offload data from if it is not possible to proceed with Raid unless I have this second disk free. So my situation is this. Is it possible to do something right now with two disks and then convert to Raid level 5 later once I have a third disk without starting from scratch?
I am trying to edit /etc/inittab so that I can make run level 3 as my default runlevel but whenever I try to edit it, it opens in read only mode. I am logging in as root still not be able to edit the file. It still shows read only. Also tried chown/chmod to change the file permission but it won't let me change anything related to inittab. Also checked the /boot/grub/grub.conf to see if the file system is mounting as ro. Also tried with rw but didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have configured master and slave Bind servers. Everything works fine. But whenever I add a new zone entry at master server it is not getting updated at slave server in logs I see this error:
client 192.168.1.1#43428: view external: received notify for zone 'yourdomainname.com': not authoritative
At master server I do not see any error or warning message. This error clearly indicates that named.conf file does not have zone entry in it or domain name is wrong. While checking the named.conf file I see that the zone entry has not been updated at slave server. If I update it manually and reload named on slave then zone files (db files) are getting created without any issue and any modification at master server for the zone records are also getting updated. My concern is why zone record is not getting appended at slave server in named.conf file.
Is there anything I am missing in the configuration. I am pasting the steps which I have followed to configure my master and slave server:
Configure Bind as master and slave server
Install Bind on your server
yum install bind
OR
sudu apt-get install bind9
Generate RNDC Key using the command
rndc-confgen -a -k rndc-key
it will stored in /etc/rndc-key file
Master Server IP 192.168.0.1

I played the apprentice sorcerer trying to install mysql workbench by my own and I messed up the system 11.1 by removing accidentally some libraries and decided to jump on 11.4 by using the update feature from the DVD. It worked all good (it seems at least: I didn't lost any datas and all my servers are running ok) but there is no more X11 server (kde) running for the run level 5.
I checked the inittab file and it is set to 5. I can log on root account and now I'm searching how to install kde on this new 11.4 system. I didn't yet tried the failsafe option at boot. Is there a way to set up kde from the internet, my wifi connection is ok ? I saw that yast was not installed nore zypper nore yum. Do I first try another update to fix it (if possible) from DVD?
