Server :: Setting Up CentOS Email

Jan 13, 2011

I'm trying to setup a couple POP accounts in CentOS. I started doing a tutorial that had me install dovecot, and now I have dovecot running but I can't connect at all.Does anyone know of a simple way to get email up and running? It seems like it should be easier than the 14 step tutorials I was finding on Google. Also, should I leave dovecot or try and remove it?

CentOS 5 Server :: Setting Up An Email Server?

May 8, 2010

I have successfully setup Apache,MySql,ftp, and a few other various packages. My question today is setting up an email server.I have past experience with sendmail, and procmail. However only on already installed, configured and working servers.I am trying to setup an email server from scratch.I have Centos 5.4 installed.

procmail.x86_64 3.22-17.1.el5.centos installed
sendmail.x86_64 8.13.8-2.el5 installed

Are those two packages the only ones I need to get a working email server setup? Also I have been trying to configure a procmailrc file for my server under /etc/, but I can't seem to find consistent documentation on how to set up a procmailrc file.I believe my iptables is set to block port 110 and 25 from outside connections. how to open those ports too.

Fedora Servers :: Setting Up An Email Server?

Sep 4, 2009

I will be getting an old and decrepit laptop (the PS2 channel went out). I have decided that I would like to set it up to be an email and minor data server. The only problem exists that I have never setup a server, yet alone a linux server before.

I want the server to allow user authenticated access to a certain folder on the machine where other clients can go and copy and paste files for the data server portions and I want it to download emails from multiple domains (Gmail, a Microsoft Exchange Server, and from a private domain) and then allow other clients to log in and download those messages (I would like to keep each domain's emails separate so the client has to specify which domain's emails to download).

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up Email Server?

I recently bought my own domain name and have started working on my website. I am way excited about setting this site up. My question is, what would be the best way to setup an email system where users are able to login and check their email...I guess like, a web-based system? Then they can configure a client if they wish with their email address.

Ubuntu :: Setting Up Own Mail Server For Personal Email?

Jan 4, 2011

I would like to be able to have email sent directly to my computer at home (i.e. run some kind of mail server on it) instead of having to rely on Gmail, Yahoo or someone else. From what I've read it should be possible, but most of the guides out there seem to be oriented to enterprise-class setups, or at the very least a small business, and I think that a lot of that would be overkill for just getting my personal mail. The minimum *I think* is

- register a domain name, with the DNS pointing to my public IP (which is dynamic, so one question I have is whether I would have to use DynDNS or is DNS at any registrar going to be flexible enough to modify if/when my IP changes?)- something about MX records (I'm really unsure here, what exactly are these and where do I set them up? I don't think a free DynDNS account lets one handle this, does someone know which of their account types supports setting this up?)

- Install sendmail and postfix (which seems like a PITA, but much documentation appears to be available)

- Profit?

CentOS 5 Server :: Email Server Setup Using Sendmail And Dovecot?

Apr 24, 2009

I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.

The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

CentOS 5 :: Postfix Not Sending Email To Right Server?

Jul 23, 2009

I have postfix sort of working correctly. postfix can send email to the internet but it doesn't want to send email to my local exchange server. What I need is for postfix to send emails directed to @xyz.com to my exchange server instead of itself.

My setup
mail.xyz.com - exchange 2003 server
www.xyz.com - centos 5.3 server with postfix

www.xyz.com can send emails to my hotmail.com account so that part works correctly. www.xyz.com can't send email to username@xyz.com. postfix seems to be delivering the email to itself and not the exchange server.

How can I tell postfix to send the @xyz.com emails to my exchange server?

Here is a sample of my /var/log/maillog
Jul 22 15:43:43 list postfix/smtpd[9802]: D63168604A3: client=localhost.localdomain[127.0.0.1]

CentOS 5 Server :: Lookin' For Some Email Recommendations?

Dec 17, 2009

I'm setting up an email server for a small office and need a few specific features. I was hoping that someone might give me a few recommendations to meet the following criteria:

IMAP support anti-spam some sort of webmail client - doesn't have to be fancy, but it needs a search function graphical administration panel The last one is so that other people in the office, who aren't necessarily familiar with linux, can do some basic administration. Adding mail boxes, etc.

I've seen the guide for Postfix/Dovecot. That's great but doesn't cover everything that I need. I've also seen Zimbra, which... Well I don't know, that may work, but the open source version has some features removed and that makes me leery. Have people had good experiences with open-source Zimbra? Is it sufficiently feature-complete?

Edit: Well, looks like I just needed to do a little more searching. This seems to cover most everything:[URL]... I'd still like to hear what people have to say about Zimbra though.

CentOS 5 Server :: Setting Up CUPS (command Line) On New Server?

CentOS 5.2 is VERY stable. Here is my problem. The server is command line only -- I tend to hate GUI"S.I setup Samba no problem disabling the ports needed through the firewall and that was straightforward.CUPS is a nightmare for me since CentOS locks down the cupsd.conf and then the firewall does its thing. I allowed port 631 through the firewall but then got lost on the cupsd.conf. It's been too long and the old redhat one won't work with CentOS (not surprising since it's a VERY old system) straight-forward CUPS tutorial for a command line interface. I just need it to be:

b) do that

CentOS 5 :: What To Consider In Setting Up Server

Feb 22, 2011

I've setup a server for a small office (10 people) before with samba domain and file server with slackware. no problem there. now am tasked to setup a samba domain and file server for 300 users in 5 different locations. I am currently given a 1u rack server and I requested for 2x1tb drives that I plan to with RAID.

Some of the offices will be connected via VPN using sonicwall. Would it be ideal for remote users to login to the server in the HQ? Am not so familiar with how other companies setup their servers if they have multiple remote sites. Am also open to setting up servers in each site but because of the currently limited manpower, i'd rather have it close by so I can work on the server remotely if needed.

are there any things that I should consider or are there any good references on setting up a corporate server? the problem now is that the company uses google's email app as their email provider, I have gotten a host to do that already. But since they use email to share files, its not very efficient, hence the file server. But since there are a lot of mobile employees and employees in different sites, I would want them to be able to access those files being shared access the company or departments also.

Then I have to consider how to backup the files and other apps that the company will be using. SInce we will be primarily using linux, we would need to do virtualize some windows based apps that they are using now.

CentOS 5 Server :: Setting Up Sub-domains?

Jul 20, 2010

I am still in Linux Diapers. I setup a CENTOS SELINUX box on an internal network. So the only way I know to access it's served pages is by navigating to 10.1.1.40 from a computer within the network. The issue is that I need to create sub-domains for this server but have no Idea how to go about doing that.

Is there a way of creating an alias for the dev server so I can type something like "washington" into the web browser of a computer on the internal network instead of 10.1.1.40? Can I use a fake FQDN that on this server and get served its web pages or do I need to register a FQDN?

Background: I am creating a series of websites using Drupal and am trying to implement the multisites functionality (all the sites are run from a single code base). To do this they suggest setting up each site on a sub-domain during development. We have not yet purchase the FQDN's for the sites so I have no FQDN to setup.
