Ubuntu :: Can't Type An Exclamation Mark

Jul 6, 2010

I can't type an exclamation mark with my keyboard. I can type other symbols that require the shift key (~ @ # $, etc) but Shift + 1 does not give an exclamation point. Here's the intriguing part: following a tip from another thread, I changed my Visual Effects setting (System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects tab) from the default "Normal" to the setting "None". Immediately after doing this, I was able to type exclamation points. Problem solved, right?

experiment to make sure the Visual Effects setting was really the culprit. So I flipped my Visual Effects back to the default "Normal", and sure enough, I stopped being able to type exclamation marks. Having verified the (apparent) cause of the issue, I tried my solution of changing the Visual Effects to "None". Of course the "solution" didn't work this time (so much for my great idea) and I am left unable to type an exclamation point.

I have concluded that the fault must lie within my user's configuration (I can type as many exclamations as I want when logged in as other users).

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Exclamation Mark And Intermittent Disconnectivity?

Oct 21, 2010

I got a NetGear wireless router recently. Attached it to my Huawei (pardon the spelling) modem. I have a HP 540 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 The wireless gets connected. But there's an exclamation mark almost all the time. Very frequently these days, the connection gets bogged down or websites just don't open at all. But the icon (with the exclamation mark) shows Active Connection. I don't know where to start looking for bugs. Seems odd. Wireless is connected, I can connect to sites, but there's the exclamation.. and sooner or later, connection goes off but the icon still stays the same with "active" label.

Ubuntu Installation :: Evolution "Error Generating Message List" At The Bottom, With An Exclamation Mark In A Red Circle

May 2, 2011

I've upgraded to 11.04 and now Evolution doesn't work right. It shows there are unread messages in my inbox, but when I click on it, it says "Error Generating Message List" at the bottom, with an exclamation mark in a red circle. When I click on that, it says "database disk image is malformed". I've uninstalled and reinstalled Evolution, but get the same message.

Software :: Evolution Email: Mark As Read?

Jul 13, 2011

In every other e-mail program that I have encountered in my years upon this Earth, including previous version of Evolution, when you open a message, the message in the main displays stops being displayed in bold, so that you can see it has been opened and read. In my new version, 2.32.3, the message header stays bold, even once you have opened the message. In order to make it stop being bold, you have to manually "Mark As Read" in the context menu.

I cannot see any option in the preferences that needs to be switched on so that this (until now) default behaviour of marking read messages as Read automatically, can resume. A Google of this problem just brings up messages on other forums, asking the same question but getting no answer. Has anyone on LinuxQuestions come across this Evolution feature before? Is this an Evolution bug, or is there a way of having opened messages Marked as Read automatically, which virtually every other e-mail application does anyway?!

CentOS 5 Server :: Email Server Setup Using Sendmail And Dovecot?

Apr 24, 2009

I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.

The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

CentOS 5 Server :: Setting Up An Email Server?

May 8, 2010

I have successfully setup Apache,MySql,ftp, and a few other various packages. My question today is setting up an email server.I have past experience with sendmail, and procmail. However only on already installed, configured and working servers.I am trying to setup an email server from scratch.I have Centos 5.4 installed.

procmail.x86_64 3.22-17.1.el5.centos installed
sendmail.x86_64 8.13.8-2.el5 installed

Are those two packages the only ones I need to get a working email server setup? Also I have been trying to configure a procmailrc file for my server under /etc/, but I can't seem to find consistent documentation on how to set up a procmailrc file.I believe my iptables is set to block port 110 and 25 from outside connections. how to open those ports too.

CentOS 5 :: Postfix Not Sending Email To Right Server?

Jul 23, 2009

I have postfix sort of working correctly. postfix can send email to the internet but it doesn't want to send email to my local exchange server. What I need is for postfix to send emails directed to @xyz.com to my exchange server instead of itself.

My setup
mail.xyz.com - exchange 2003 server
www.xyz.com - centos 5.3 server with postfix

www.xyz.com can send emails to my hotmail.com account so that part works correctly. www.xyz.com can't send email to username@xyz.com. postfix seems to be delivering the email to itself and not the exchange server.

How can I tell postfix to send the @xyz.com emails to my exchange server?

Here is a sample of my /var/log/maillog
Jul 22 15:43:43 list postfix/smtpd[9802]: D63168604A3: client=localhost.localdomain[127.0.0.1]

CentOS 5 Server :: Lookin' For Some Email Recommendations?

Dec 17, 2009

I'm setting up an email server for a small office and need a few specific features. I was hoping that someone might give me a few recommendations to meet the following criteria:

IMAP support anti-spam some sort of webmail client - doesn't have to be fancy, but it needs a search function graphical administration panel The last one is so that other people in the office, who aren't necessarily familiar with linux, can do some basic administration. Adding mail boxes, etc.

I've seen the guide for Postfix/Dovecot. That's great but doesn't cover everything that I need. I've also seen Zimbra, which... Well I don't know, that may work, but the open source version has some features removed and that makes me leery. Have people had good experiences with open-source Zimbra? Is it sufficiently feature-complete?

Edit: Well, looks like I just needed to do a little more searching. This seems to cover most everything:[URL]... I'd still like to hear what people have to say about Zimbra though.
