Server :: Parallel Multiple Ssh Tool Pseudo Tty Support

I use mpssh or pssh to issue commands to multiple servers. Problem is that some of the commands require pseudo terminal and won't work with these tools. This will work just fine: "ssh -t user@server command" as stated under SSH man: -t = Force pseudo-tty allocation. This can be used to execute arbitrary screen-based programs on a remote machine, which can be very useful, e.g., when implementing menu services.
Multiple -t options force tty allocation, even if ssh has no local tty. So, is there a workaround for the above tools? Or is there any other tool for multi server administration that will work? If you are not sure what I am talking about just try executing "ssh user@server top" and "ssh -t user@server top" to know exactly the difference.

Somone that know about any good free tool to brodcast multiple wecams true a *nix server? been looking for one a while now without any luck, i need
1: Users can connect to it by them self.
2: They need to register there own cams.
3: A login screen for the users brodcasting.
4: no need for users looking on the site to register (a + if they have to to be able to browse true the cams)
5: I dont want to spend alot of money on this, i planing to host this for free and the last thing i need is for me to have to pay money for it.

i started to look into upgrading my LTS ubuntu server instances to Lucid. one the notable things that i have discovered is the lack of support for Webmin; it seems that Debian is no longer supporting packages required by Webmin. But it also appears that ubuntu team believes that Webmin may actually cause problems as it works in a different way than that presumed by Ubuntu. so i am now left with no way to manage my 10+ instances of ubuntu server that i used for studying and research. it seems that i am left with cluster-ssh as an alternative. but are there other alternatives, ideally similar to webmin?

I'm looking for a way in Perl to be able to take a list of servers, ssh multiple commands to it and store the results. If I do this process serially, sometimes one server will hang the whole script and if it doesn't, it still takes hours to complete.
I'm thinking what I need to do is make a parent loop that calls out a separate process that passes the server name to the child sub process and then executes all the commands I have defined in its own process. If one server 'hangs', at least that won't stop the script from doing all the other servers in the list.
I'm guessing using the fork() command would serve me best, however, all the online descriptions I have found have been vague at best.

I'm trying to setup a pseudo home server. Basically I just want to be able to log into my machine from work. The problem is that I have a dynamic IP address.My question is probably obvious, but bare with me: I know that you can login to a computer by its name (ie. ssh ApacheRoseXBones@HomeStation.stuff). What does one need to do to be able to log into their machine like this?

I'm starting to have A LOT of opened windows in my machine. Sometimes within a project, I have e-mail/task management/personal e-mail/twitter, and a lot of different opened applications/terminals in my Linux workstation.Sometimes it would be interesting to have different workspaces to projects instead of this configuration I have nowadays that are classes of work (bad name, I know, but I think you got the idea).I'm starting to think about using two monitors: one with Corporate Management, Work and Personal. The second monitor is only the development state: each workspace here is about a project being worked on instead of groups of works like before. A workspace may be implementing different classes for example.
My question is: I just want to change to a second monitor using the mouse. I want to still be able to change workspaces in the same monitor using keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcuts wouldn't change monitors, just worskpaces on the same monitor. All the tutorials I read (like this one) only tells how to use multiple monitors but doesn't answer my question about keyboard shortcuts.Does Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx or Debian 5.0.5 Lenny) support this envisioned setup (Different workspaces in a way that keyboard workspace switching only works in the current monitor) ? If so, how?I haven't tested this setup, that's why I'm asking. In this question the user says it works exactly how I want it to behave, can someone else confirm it?

Within a few weeks we're getting about 32 machines to manage.
We need to manage via SSH, SFTP and mySQL.
Is there something available which gives an overview of the machines and opens a terminal or sftp session with the selected machine, with a shortcut or something like that?

recommend a utility to let me automatically apply shell commands I type to a list of given remote machines?I'm configuring and maintaining multiple servers all running Fedora 12 and I want them to have exactly the same configuration. I also need to check out code from subversion onto these machines; the same code from the same location into the same directory. I know I could use ssh to run each command individually for each machine, but is there a tool that will make this much easier?

I've got a bunch of PDF files that have been produced two "real" pages to a single PDF page; I'd like to chop these in half and put each half on a separate page. Essentially, I need something thatdoes the exact opposite of pdfnup (or psnup). Google and apt-cache search are giving me no love.Platform is Linux, open source preferred; as I've got a great pile of these to do something that can be scripted (as opposed to a GUI) would be nice, so I can just give it a list of them and have it chew away.A pre-existing script isn't the only option, either; if there's sample code to manipulate PDFs in similar ways with a third-party library, I can probably hack it into doing what I want.

Looking for a test tool where I can fire up any number of ports (TCP and / or UDP) to listen on.
I am currently getting my using nc but its only 1 port at a time (i know I can open up multiple sessions but thats cumbersome), it can't do UDP, and it closes at the end of the session.
A friend has suggested socat but it looks pretty much the same except it can do UDP, but also cumbersome, I have to manually output to a different file per port, etc.
Basically its so I can quickly test firewall and NAT rules.

I just want to search file names, not their content.
Using gnome-search-tool, if I search for "word1 word3" I can't find "word1 word2 word3.txt" but I do find it (and too many others) if I just search for "word1"
I would have thought a boolean AND search would just be automatic, but I guess not. I've already come across searchmonkey, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to set it up to do this - i.e. I don't want to have to use regular expressions or be typing "*" all over the place.
P.S. I do use google desktop search, but I hate using it as the results are way too narrow to be of any use and haven't been able to figure out how to widen it.
P.P.S. I also found this: In terminal type gconf-editor and find gnome-search-tool in the Apps. Then look for the field quick_search_second_scan_excluded_paths and change the slash to nothing, i.e. delete the "/".
It worked for my ubuntu 10.04 pc, but not this one (ubuntu 9.1) - so I thought maybe there's another way...

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I was trying to troubleshoot a problematic server. The server, which runs on CentOS 4.x, is attached to Hardware RAID / disk array. Since the OS partition is having issues, I plan to troubleshoot the server by booting up with Knoppix 6 in "knoppix 2" / text mode. Everything went fine except, I'm not able to see all volumes available on the disk array. Only the first volume is presented.
Based on this, I'm suspecting Knoppix 6 kernel is not supporting Multiple LUN by default, based on a few Google search. Tried kernel parameters such as "max_luns=128" and "max_scsi_luns=128" at boot prompt but no luck. how can I enable Multiple LUN support during boot time or right after boot time?

how is the support for multiple, two or more, monitors in ubuntu (10.04) when using a graphic cards from AMD(/ATI), for example the HD 5770. (Which I'm currently using). I know that DP is required to use three monitors on a regular card. But other than that, will it work? Am I to expect a lot of work to be able to get it working? Or will it simply be impossible? (And yes, I know that AMDs(/ATI) drivers aren't always the best... Although changing to a card from nvidia at this moment isn't possible)
The background to my question is that I'm thinking about buying another monitor, same model as the current one I'm using, and later on perhaps expand to buy another one.Tried to search for it but wasn't able to find how the support would be in linux, and ubuntu in particular, since most I found is about the windows support, which should work quite easy and therefore isn't relevant.

I quit using Fedora when FC4 came out, but I decided to switch back now that F11 has come out. I'm liking everything so far, though it is different from what I became used to (Ubuntu). My main question so far has to do with language support, and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere for this. I need to have language support for several languages (including support to enter complex characters) for all applications for which it they are available. How do I install all the language files at once for, say, Korean, rather than installing each library one by one?

Occasionally when I start typing into a text box, it will not enter text until I go to another window or text box and click back in. This seems to happen at random without any pattern or to any specific applications more than others. I can still use alt-tab and similar commands, so I know it's not the hardware. I'm trying to complete the porting to RHEL 5 of a commercial application that we've had running on AIX and SCO for decades. It originally ran on dumb-terminals, and even now runs on dumb-terminal emulators that run on Windows. We have thousands of customers, many of whom we'd like to migrate to Linux. We're pretty much done with the port, with the exception of this little glitch we're having with pseudo-ttys...
Our app utilizes pseudo-ttys, such that sub-portions of the application run under a screen manager that provides for screen-switching of multiple instances of the sub-apps on non-GUI terminals, some of which are still running serial. In this regard, it is not unlike the GNU "screen" program. However, it also supports file transfers over serial links using zmodem, and requires the ability to switch in and out of a fully 8-bit transparent mode where the screen switching keyboard commands must be ignored.
On AIX, we're using the BSD TIOCUCNTL (UIOCCMD) capability to send commands from the sub-app to the screen manager. TIOCUCNTL provides custom user ioctls and is an ideal way to solve the problem. It is not implemented on Linux, and the "alternative" of TIOCPKT does not provide arbitrary ioctls so at best we'd have to commandeer some of the existing TIOCPKT ioctls for our own use if that's even possible. TIOCPKT seems like a hack, it apparently was implemented not as a general mechanism but to solve problems specific to rlogin/rlogind.
SCO didn't support TIOCUCNTL either, so years ago we used the SVR5 alternative of putmsg/getmsg. This is a streams-based mechanism of sending control information over streams separate from the data. While RHEL 5 seems to have man pages indicating these commands exist, and in fact you can link programs using them to libc without errors, they are apparently stubbed out and return "function not implemented." This seems to be, according to this Wiki, due to certain Linux factions deeming that streams are "technically inadequate":
Certainly, I would agree that a streams implementation that is incomplete is undoubtedly "technically inadequate."
At the same time, it would appear that the SVR5 method of pseudo-tty is now the recommended implementation, the BSD one being "deprecated" (not to mention, also incomplete on Linux, given TIOCUCNTL is missing):
So here I am trying to figure out how to solve the problem. I have found a library that apparently implements the getmsg/putmsg commands for Linux, called libLiS. However, according to IBM, it has a problem with SELinux:
We've had to disable SELinux for other reasons anyway, so this is not a show stopper for us, and I am actively exploring using it as our solution. However, I've never been exactly crazy about the idea of depending on disabling security features to make something work. But, there's something to be said for the compatibility it would offer for our apps.
However, it occured ot me that we are probably not the first to have this problem, and was wondering if perhaps there is another solution that we should consider.
It has occured to me to use named pipes, but this would be rather ugly--we'd have to maintain a directory full of hundreds of named pipes, probably named after the associated ptys that the sub-apps could use to issue control commands to their screen manager, and the manager would have to monitor these pipes for commands, etc.-- certainly possible, but it seems like it might be re-inventing the wheel a bit, or at the very least, is a somewhat kludgy work-around to the apparent lack of any user-customizable control mechanisms in the pseudo-ttys. And we'd have to support it in addition to the code for the other methods since those platforms aren't going away anytime soon (SCO death-throes notwithstanding).

Perl has the concept of pseudo virtual files where data can be appended to the end of the script, & Perl will treat it as a legitimate source of data:

I would really like to be able to do something similar in a Bourne shell script where I don't have to manage a collateral text file which is prone to getting lost. Does anyone know if there is a similar construct in shell programming? I would have thought this feature was a remnant that Perl inherited from its shell programming roots, but searching on the Web has revealed nothing of consequence.

I'm looking at setting up a couple automated systems: Here are a few examples:
* Internal accounting system to download and process emails
* Public web server to visit
I could put each system on its own separate box -- for example, it's generally good practice to separate anything that external users have access to (such as a webserver) from internal processes such as accounting. Now, rather than dishing out the money for two separate servers, could I get away with just installing new instances of VMWare on the same box for each system?
To give you an idea, these are not large scale computationally sensitive systems. The accounting one is simply downloading and tallying emails, and the latter is just a webserver with maybe 5 hits per day on a good day. I could definitely pick up a new box for say $50, but I wanted to know the general practice of using VMWare on the same box versus two separate boxes.

I wanted to know how can I cross compile SMS SERVER TOOL for an embedded computer and make just one binary file for it or how can I change all of its default files places like its demon and object file and gather all of them to one directory to execute and use and run.let me explain it better for you : I have an embedded computer with Linux OS that its file system is read only and I can not add any file to /usr /lib and ..... and I can just mount a SD memory card to it and copy all of my programs to it and run them from there as you understand I have two choices to choose, first make one big binary file for each program that I am doing it now and it is not a suitable solution and the second is finding the way to change default place of shared object file of my program.now you tell me what can I do to solving this problem.

I've been looking though different editors for one that has good printing support. Ideally it should be able to print C++ code with line numbers, syntax highlighting, multiple columns per page, customizable fonts and sizes and a print preview feature so that I can make sure it looks right before sending it to the printer. It appears that notepad++ had at least some of these features, but it is not available on linux. The best I could do so far is to copy/paste the output of 'cat -n foo.cpp' into oowriter and format it into two colums. I don't get synax highlighting though and I have to manually replace tabs with a few spaces as well as some excessive leading spaces before the line numbering.
