How to initiate a file installation repair of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 x64 from the DVD rom drive? my problem is that i can only do it from single mode login since the run level 5 is always prompting me for login name loop.

I have an old advent laptop and I tried to install Opensuse from DVD on it. I followed the installation as normal but when I tried to boot it said some sort of check was forced and then I have to enter the admin/root password upon doing this I got the message system repair # in red. I have tried to repair the system through the installation DVD and tried re-installing it but I still get the same message.

Is there some kind of standard in preparing RHEL clean installation (what packages) that sys admins follow in order to prepare production installation on server platform?
I want to Install RHEL 4.7 64 bit on one my server (Supermicro Super Server) having RAID controller1. Intel2. AdaptecWe are using Adaptec.We are using RAID 1 with 2x320GB Hard disksPOINT: If we Install RHEL 5.3 it recognize RAID controller and show single Logical volume of 298 GB, Means working fine but when we try to install RHEL 4.7 it shows two hard disks of 298GB and 298GB,meanz its unable to recognize RAID controller.So, the issue is Driver of it, CD which we got from super micro having driver for RHEL 4 to RHEL 4 update 6We are making our DR site and its necessary for us to Install RHEL4.7 to make it identical.I searched a lot and spent more than three days on it continuously, And still unable to find the solution.

I need to install a identical configuration, including installed packages, scripts and customize configuration onto each of this workstations. I cannot set up a kickstart server to install from remotely because of my organizations security policies. Not to mention that it would be painfully slow. I thought about DD-ing my "Master" build and sending it to the remote sites, but some of the admins are not very Linux savvy. I would really like to build a bootable DVD that would install the cloned Master build from my server to theirs. I was looking for something that would look like Anaconda to the person installing the image. If I could get them through this base install I think it would be easy to document how to change the workstation unique parameters or value. How to accomplished this? BTW, this will be a RHEL 5.3 server install.

I tried to install eugene software on RHEL-6 64 bit server. After extracting (tar -zxvf eugene-3.6.tar.gz) compilation files from eugene.tar.gz, I used ./configure to compile. Since I already installed gd (>=2.0), compilation error comes in need of gd lib (>=2.0). Again I removed the software & installed newly downloaded. But still it showing same error. What's the exact error in this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a sony vaio vgn-AR71s with dual boot Vista and Ubuntu, no problems there.Since, over time, I messed up my previous Ubuntu setup while trying to get my wifi working, I decided to reinstall the whole thing and give it a fresh start. (as after two Kernel updates my wifi card drivers should be supported)I Reinstalled Vista and drivers after which I downloaded the latest Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD, burned to a disc and rebooted.When the Ubuntu installation was almost finished I got an error, the disc I was using got overheated (bad quality CD) and there was a problem copying certain files. However my hard disk was successfully partitioned and divided in half (1st partition Vista -NTFS and second Ubuntu -Ext4). But my laptop still boots directly into Vista ignoring the partly failed Ubuntu install, no boot option at startup.When I reboot using the LiveCD I can only install Ubuntu on a newly created third partition.
Is there any way I can continue or repair the previous ubuntu install? I searched this forum and the internet for options and hints yet don't seem to find an answer.The good thing is my wifi card is finally working (when I booted from the LiveCD it immediately detected wireless networks yeay)
I am installing server 10.04.1 (non-gui) on an old Dell box. All goes well until it gets to the point of "Install the base system". I get a dialog "Media Change" with asks: Please insert the disk labeled 'Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100816)' in the drive /cdrom/ and press enter. I thought that was the disk I had inserted. I looked at the disk in another machine and it appears to be labeled simply "Ubuntu-Server 10.04.1 LTS i386". I did a check of the media before starting the install and have even tried a different DVD reader in the machine as I thought it might be an issue with the drive failing to read the disk. I again and again get the error shown above.

I was recently given an old laptop that runs Windows XP. Obviously, I want to put Ubuntu on it instead. However, the laptop is so old that it does not have a working USB connection; nor does it have a CD tray. I am aware of using Wubi to install an Ubuntu system within Windows, but I was wondering if there were any ways to install a clean Ubuntu system right onto the hard drive, without Windows being required. Or, perhaps, does Wubi have some feature to allow full-drive installation?
