yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" which did work out for me. Before I have ran the install, the entire VPS got updated by the yum update command. How do I resolve this error so that the VNC will work as I would like to install a few applications on there that need to be controlled through a mouspointer.
is possible to edited the default RHEL CD to have it automatically install RHEL based off of a kickstart file that I will store locally on the CD. My plan would be to put a cd in a server and have the OS automatically being installed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn trying to upgrade from the default VNC server, I have installed RealVNC on latest Ubuntu Natty Narwhal, and it seems to work fine. But I would like to make it so RealVNC starts in the background when ubuntu is booting. I found the website below, but those procedures seem a little dated, so I thought I would check here first. Does anyone know of a good way to load the vnc.so module on boot? I have nvidia drivers and such installed, so I am afraid adding the load module section in xorg.conf might make it somodules that I don't know about don't load

I have 50 identical workstations that are being dropped shipped from the vendor directly to the remote locations. I need to install a identical configuration, including installed packages, scripts and customize configuration onto each of this workstations. I cannot set up a kickstart server to install from remotely because of my organizations security policies. Not to mention that it would be painfully slow. I thought about DD-ing my "Master" build and sending it to the remote sites, but some of the admins are not very Linux savvy. I would really like to build a bootable DVD that would install the cloned Master build from my server to theirs. I was looking for something that would look like Anaconda to the person installing the image. If I could get them through this base install I think it would be easy to document how to change the workstation unique parameters or value. How to accomplished this? BTW, this will be a RHEL 5.3 server install.

I've done as much research as I can on this problem of mine before making the last resort and posting what I think is a stupid question.I've installed RealVNC on my linux box, but when I try to connect (whether is locally, over LAN from my W7 PC, or through HTTP) I always get the same result, the vncviewer window is black/blank with a X as the cursor. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a database server running RHEL 5.1 32 bit that suffered some catastrophic failures about 6 months ago. We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

I want to install RHEL 5 on it, but media didn't boot in graphic mode,when i was completing the installation steps( all in text mode) at the end I see only a command line ( username logine)
I tried other distributions and other RHEL versions that I have ( for checking my laptop) and the result become fallow in brief:
RHEL 5.3: only boot in text mode
RHEL 5.5: only boot in text mode
fedora 8: boot and install in graphic mode
fedora 8:doesn't boot
fedora 10: boot and install in graphic
oracle red hat enterprise 4.4:boot and install in graphic mode( but I don't like this)

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are brand new to the Linux platform and just learning. So this is what we have done so far, Installed RHEL 5 on a test machine. Says it was succesfully installed. But when it boots it boots to a blank screen with no prompt or gui or anything just a black screen. Does not accept any input or anything.
We are able to get into the GNU Grub and this is what we see
I can enter b for boot
We would like for this to boot to a GUI interface.
We want to set this up as a simple file server.
