Taking into account the host of each virtual user's home directory can also have more than one subdirectory, which should be restricted to a subdirectory. Is beyond the control of the operation of these sites in a subdirectory. Best local restrictions or limitations to the overall situation.

Is there a different version of Windows where I am less likely to have this problem?
Im trying to config my intranet to be accessible from inside the network (lan) without need of password and ask for a passwd for those who are viewing from Wan ....
Today my intranet can only be accessed from Lan, external access give me an Unauthorized message, I took look around, try #irc and still can get the appropriated help, I hope that someone here could help me on that...
A piece of my config:

I am wondering how websites like banks are able to determine if you have previously used a certain computer to access the website, even if your router's IP address may have changed and your system's cookies have been cleared. I have users that need to access our HTTP intranet from outside locations. Those locations will have dynamic IP addresses most of the time, so I can't just "allow from [ip]" in my Apache proxy configuration. Originally we considered a VPN, but determined that a VPN will be overkill to access just an internal website, since we do not want external users to have permission to the rest of the network, only the website.I currently have it working over HTTPS with basic authentication against an internal LDAP server, but I want a little more security for such an important website.

[user]-->(internet via https)-->[apache gateway]-->(intranet)-->[http server]
Is there any limitation of concurrent ftp connections that can run on the RHEL 5.2 server? I cannot find out the answer yet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMore of a "Knowledge" question... Is their a limit to the number of reads a single file can take? Say for example I have a file named config.xml in an htdocs directory and a XMLReader function from PHP reads some value(s) out of this file for every connection of Apache or NGinx. Now suppose my site receives a gigantic spike in traffic (but Apache stays opertational through it all)... Is their a point at which the underlying system would simply not be able to open+read config.xml anymore??

What it is doing: The server looks like it is only accepting one connection at a time, and any other clients are queued. When the queue is empty it looks like the program is aborting with a SIGABRT. EDIT:// fixed the program exiting in the close function. Still one client at a time

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using RackMonkey to map out my lab. Unfortunately, due to RM limitations, every user who accesses the site has write access UNLESS they are logged in as a user named "guest". I currently have Apache allowing only the users (sysadmins) in an LDAP group access to RM, but I would like to allow read-only access for other users as well.I found mod_authn_anon, but I am having trouble combining the two authentication methods. I am using Apache 2.2.18 (compiled myself) on SLES 11.1.
This is the common part:
Code:
AuthType Basic
AuthBasicProvider ldap anon
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
This part by itself works for the LDAP authentication:
Code:
AuthName "System Admins"
AuthLDAPURL "ldaps://example.com/ou=ldap,o=example.com?mail" SSL
Require ldap-group cn=SysAdmins,ou=memberlist,ou=groups,o=example.com
This part works by itself for guest access:
Code:
Anonymous guest
Anonymous_VerifyEmail Off
Anonymous_MustGiveEmail Off
Anonymous_LogEmail on
Require valid-user
But if I have both of the previous blocks enabled at once, then guest access does not work. If I throw in a "Satisfy any", then I am not prompted for a username at all. How can I allow access to this LDAP group and to a user named "guest", but not allow all valid LDAP users to log in?
There is a tool appeared in repository called ktune; The purpose is to adjust some sysctl.conf settings to improve server speed on servers with heavy load. What is this tool for if one can achieve the same with the configuration file added to system startup? Or ktune is just such file?

I have set up a linux box running slackware 12.0, along with Apache 2.2.4, on my LAN I have a couple of computers. I want to force them to a webpage under document root, the webpage will be a agreement webpage. Is this possible to do with Apache? This will not be real domain, so my guess it that I would have to tell my DNS server to resolve the ip address to the hostname of my slackware box.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Apache up and running and have a few virtual sites enabled. All these sites belong to the same user and group and the directory root for each site is in /home/{same-user}/www/{site-name}/htdocs/
I use Samba to connect from Windows to these directories and by default, files and directories are saved as the {same-user} and {same-group}. My question is, would it cause a problem if I changed the user and group in the virtual server directives in /etc/apache2/sites-available/site.conf files, giving apache permission to write to these files and directories. In the past I have changed the user and group to www-data (the default) but this seems inefficient an cumbersome compared to what I intend to do.
I use the server mostly for development, although at times I have a small site or two available to the public. Before I do this I want to be sure I'm not leaving a gaping security hole by changing these things. If this is all wrong, what is the standard way of running virtual hosts from apache and what is the standard document root for virtual sites?
I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

I'm pretty sure that only one core is being used when booting and I would like ti know if this is true for the rest of the laptop usage.Furthermore, I tried to follow a tutorial in order to edit/etc/init.d/rc*****Tutorial indicated that one could get the concurrency by changing the value CONCURRENCY=none to CONCURRENCY=shell however the file clearly says that "shell" is not a valid option, so I made no change

How do I find the maximum number of concurrent connections (in any state)? I'm running RHEL5 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5. Also, does tcp auto tune affect the number of concurrent connections or is it mostly used for dynamic buffer size allocation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFTP servers I use frequently have imposed a simultaneous connections limit, usually 5-10 at the time. It was no problem under Windows, since Windows artificially limits allowed FTP connections to ~10 as far as I know. But it is a problem under Linux very much since I cannot find how to limit them :/ So far I used these clients: Native FTP client (Places -> Connect to FTP server). No apparent way to limit connections.
FileZilla. Under particular server settings you can limit number of simultaneous connections. Also you can do that globally in Edit -> Preferences -> Transfers. Problem is, it doesn't work, I still keep getting the 530 Sorry the maximum number of clients (10) for this user are already connected. And netstat shows quite a few simultaneous FileZilla connections no matter that I limited them to 1 both in global and local settings.
NCFTPPUT. 10 successful uploads and hi 530. Total Commander under Wine. Same. NetBeans IDE integrated ftp. Same. Some other crapy FTP clients which names I already forgot. Same. OS is Ubuntu 10.04 So, is there any way to force any of these FTP clients to use less than 10 concurrent connections?
I have a very simple question .I need to tune Kernel paramaters in RHEL 5 server to increase the number of concurrent connections what is the command to do this .How do i know the defaults and the maximum value i can raise this to.

I'm looking for a way to store an encrypted filesystem on rsync.net which can be mounted and used by multiple clients concurrently - I've considered and experimented with many different ideas, including code...
but all of them are leading me to what looks like a fundamental theoretical problem: a filesystem with concurrent access needs someone to manage it, and who's going to manage it if I can't trust the server? Or refuse on principle to trust the server? There would need to be some trusted entity communicating with every client and making decisions to keep the filesystem and/or block device consistent, right?
Is my understanding correct, or is there any way of achieving what I'm trying to do?
I currently have a RHEL 5.4 software development server. A lot of my developers are using windows desktops and they need to run interactive sessions on the server. I need to support between 4-6 concurrent users on the server. I tried doing this with VNC but I was never able to set that up for more than one user at a time.
