Feb 12, 2011

I've installed, overwrote, and deleted the partion with US to install again. Each time I could'nt login.I used 2 versions, 9.10 + 8.10. It can't be the login info, but the problem is probably that I hadn't installed any packages, e.g. Mail or Fileserver.Could the HDD not be mounted? I'll attach a GParted screenshot.

Server :: CD-ROM Couldn't Be Mounted - Error When Installing - Booting Up - Ubunto Server 10.10

Feb 22, 2011

Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again

Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"

I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?

Server :: Mount A Mounted NFS Share?

Oct 23, 2009

I'm trying to mount a mounted NFS share. I have a server that connects through VPN to a network, that has the NFS share exported. I am able to successfully mount the NFS share on that server, in /media/iSCSI. Now I want to share this NFS share with other servers, that are on the same network as the VPN-ed server, but are not connected to VPN. When I try to export the mounted share, I get:

Code:

/etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart
Stopping NFS kernel daemon: mountd nfsd.

Networking :: Can Re-export Via NFS A Partition That Is NFS Mounted On Server?

Jan 8, 2010

I have a DHCP/PXE server behind a firewall. It mounts partitions on the file server on the corp. network on the other side of the firewall. Every box that PXEs also mounts partitions on the main file server.

I was hoping I could change them to mount from the DHCP/PXE server, so that server could cache and cut down on the requests through the firewall, as well as the sessions that the firewall must track. But it seams a little strange to try to export directories that are simply NFS mounts on another server already.

Server :: Disks Not Mounted After Unexpected Power Down

Apr 30, 2011

For some reason we have some network storage not mounted properly after an unexpected restart (ie OS or memory issue) and the subsequent reboot. Has anyone come across this before? It's a bit strange that certain disks are not mounted.Anyway, to detect this, can we insert an extra line into the /etc/inittab to perform post start checks. For example, I have inserted an extra line before the runlevel scripts in /etc/inittab file.

The line will call /usr/local/fstab-check.sh to perform a check on the disks mounted via /etc/fstab. Am thinking of comparing the output from the command "df" versus the content of /etc/fstab.

Server :: How To Monitor That CIFS File Systems Are Mounted

Jan 14, 2010

We recently had an issue with "cat /proc/mount" telling us that a CIFS file system was mounted, even though the mount was not working correctly. So we're not sure if we can trust linux to report malfunctioning mounts, so we're planning on adding a specific file on the mounted file system, and verify the mount by reading this file from the client side (linux). If linux fails to read it, we know that the mount have failed. But before we go ahead doing this I thought I'd just hear how others are doing this sort of thing - how do you make sure that mount points are up and working?

- kenneho

EDIT: I just saw that I've posted in the security area, not in the server area. How do I move it?

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Mount Of Loop Mounted ISO's Showing No Files

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a problem accessing files via nfs where an iso has been mounted through the loop device on the nfs server. Basically what I am attempting to do is access the 6 CentOS 5.2 ISO's via NFS from one of my client machines. The client is able to mount the share and see its sub directories leading up to the mount point of the ISO, but the contents of the mounted ISO image are simply not visible (on the client, they are visible on the server).

Server config (CentOS 5):

/etc/fstab:
/home/user/iso/CentOS-5.2-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso /exportiso/centos/x64/5.2/disc1 iso9660 defaults,loop 0 0

NFS is working correctly for other mounts between these two boxes, however.

Ubuntu Installation :: Duplicate Drives In "Places" - Error "mount: /dev/sdd1 Already Mounted Or /media/Data Busy Mount: According To Mtab, /dev/sdd1 Is Already Mounted On /media/Data"

Feb 13, 2010

Just moved to Ubuntu from XP. Whole process has gone very smoothly, but left with a small problem (i.e. it isn't actually affecting usability) that I don't seem to be able to fix and can't find on forums/internet. I also have a problem with the Floppy drive, but I've seen that problem elsewhere in the forums.

It's a dual boot system with both NTFS and Ext4 drives. All are visible and fully accessible. I decided to convert one of the NTFS drive to Ext4. That appeared to be successful and was successfully remounted as an Ext4 drive. The drive label is "Data". I did have a bit of a problem getting it remounted so that I could see/use it under my log-in as opposed to just under root. It's at this point I think that I did something to create the problem.

I now have two entries for "Data" in drop down menu for Places. The true one is shown as a standard hard drive icon, but the false one is shown as a different icon - possibly an external drive icon (note that the floppy drive is also showing as the same icon and I can't access that, but I've seen that's a problem elsewhere in the forums).

I can write and read to the true "Data" hard drive. If I click on the other false "Data" icon, I get the message "mount: /dev/sdd1 already mounted or /media/Data busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdd1 is already mounted on /media/Data". If unmount the true drive and try to mount the false drive, the system mounts the true drive instead. If I log into nautilus as root, neither the false data drive or the floppy appear in the left hand panel.

Ubuntu :: Kernel Can't Be Mounted?

Networking :: User Mounted Nas ?

Jun 5, 2011

I've asked about this elsewhere and have made some progress.

I have added this line to fstab

Code:

Doesn't appear to be a problem with this until I come to mount it from the console in kde. What ever type of mount command I use I have to run it in su mode for it to work. Doesn't matter if I use mount.cifs. Same problem. Mount then requests the nas access password for user john. I can then access the nas from my desktop. Seems a little crazy to use the root password to obtain the users nas password so what have I done wrong? One solution might be to run a shell script that has root rights but I understand this can't be done.

The reason for wanting to do it this way is problems with none kde programs rw to the nas and click launching etc. There seems to be something in KDE locking this out. Same problem with samba. Opensuse 11.4 kde4.6.0

General :: /dev/shm Not Mounted /dev Busy

Mar 2, 2010

Recently I was trying out a boot disk I had made, and basically, I switched it off several times due to it booting the completely wrong kernel. Now, I'm getting to the stage "Checking File systems" and then comes up [Failed]. I then get a message saying Reboot required, and that it will reboot in 15 seconds, just a few seconds before it reboots I get "/dev/shm not mounted, /dev busy" or something similar.

I've booted up my sysresccd, ran "fsck.ext4 -fcv /dev/sda2" to force a check and scan for any bad blocks, it came up clean, then I rebooted and got the same error, so I copied the kernel and system.map over to /boot to make sure there's no corruption and reinstalled initscripts and util-linux-ng, rebooted, same error.Tried different kernels, I've checked fstab and menu.lst, no problems there, so I still don't get why I still get the same problem.
