View 3 RepliesI am in the process of setting up a couple of virtual servers in a cloud environment. I am currently working on my application server (Server 1) and am stuck on the creation of my ruleset for this server.
I need to allow SSH, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, and PING on this server. This server will also need to be able to talk with a couple of database servers as well as a memcache server (all internally within my cloud environment)
I have been reading on iptables, since I have never messed with them before, and have come up with the ruleset I will paste below. I have taken other steps to secure my server...changing ssh port, not allowing root to login via ssh without logging in as a user, turning off unnecessary daemons, editing my hosts allow/deny files, just to name a few.
I am a newbie to iptables, so I would love a bit of helpful advice, criticism, and even a good explanation why I should add or remove or edit something. I really want to know the how AND the why!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to setup email for myself. Bind has been configured with an MX record. Port forwarding for port 25 have been setup to go to the ip address of the server.
Some background: Centos release 5.3(Final),sendmail and dovecot installed for email Firewall on server is open for STMP (25) and DNS (53).
Problem: I went to Dyndns.com and attempted to test email using my MX that on my server but the error I get from them is that I need an A or AAA record for the MX (which I have). I have never setup my own email before so but this is fun/frustrating at the same time.
Have someone used Linux heartbeat to send email when the Slave server becomes the Master? I've read I can configure the MailTo under.
But I really don't know how to do it. I basically need my primary server to send an email when it becomes inactive and all the activities are manage by the secondary node.

It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible.My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet.The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.
In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).
I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication.Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have two servers in my environment, I have an app server that runs my Java App on it and then I have a utility server. Right now, I have that utility server acting as a simple mail gateway so when my app server needs to send an e-mail out, it forwards it to the utility server and the utility server sends it out to where-ever it's destined to. The Java server always sends as one specific user, let's call it bob@company.com.
This set-up is working just fine right now. Now, I also have my company.com e-mail hosted at an e-mail provider for all of my user's e-mail accounts and such. I also have a bob@company.com e-mail account so if e-mails ever bounce, they end up in this inbox. Again, this works fine.
My app is pretty email dumb so it can't authenticate itself or anything, that's why I am using sendmail on my utility server instead of my e-mail provider's SMTP server. What I would like to do is to configure sendmail to forward all outbound e-mails (and authenticate) to my e-mail provider's SMTP gateway using the bob@company.com account and credentials. Is it possible to configure sendmail to do this?

Root and postmaster mail recipient: I left this blank

One of our client having issue with the qmail. The issue is if any one send email to abc@ourdomain.com (abc@ourdomain.com the email address which is not exist) it should send failure notification i.e."email does not exist" to the sender. The qmail server is not notifying that email address does not exist.

i have setup mailrelay using postfix and relay email to exchange server. The problem is how can i relay email to multiple exchange server. For example: -

I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.
The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTo be short and to the point, I want to setup a service with my clients and allow them to back up to one of my servers. What I would like to do is allow client connections via WinScp to a ssh server that has home directories for each user to backup data. If users want their data I would like them to be able to connect to my apache web server (same as ssh) and download from anywhere.
Is there a way for apache to link web directories on the server to the actual /home/user account and use the same login information/authentication?? Does this make sense? I really appreciate the help. I am not a developer or else I would simply develop a user friendly front end for to an ssh server. Since that is the case I think this is the best solution for me, as well as the easiest for the client.
