Is there a way to access a Samsung DVR (model 9016) so that the footage can be archived? The DVR has an IP address, but nmap scans shows all ports are closed. Would like to archive the footage before it get overwritten.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI frequent a website features live video streams. Afterwards, they also uploads the videos for playing online. When videos are played Flash files accumulate in /tmp which I save and edit.RECENT PROBLEM:
1) When I play the videos online, they never "start". I just get that typical circling arrow that general indicates the file is downloading to a buffer before playing. but even after 5 minutes...it never starts. While this is happening, a file is accumulating in /tmp.
2) As a test, I tried editing the temp file that appears in /tmp using OpenShot. The file is very large (on the order of 800Mb). But in the editor, only a few seconds of video appear. The rest is a blank white screen. I examined the file in a hex editor and it all "looks" the same (I can't read the Hex of course...but nothing obvious appears like lots of 00 bytes).
I'm looking to capture my hdv footage from a canon hv20 camera onto a laptop running Ubuntu 9.10. No clue where to find software to do this capture.Hdvsplit is a windows only free program that does this but other than that not sure.

I'm about to go buy a video capture card this week and was wondering if there's one that's easy to setup in Ubuntu or (ideally) has some official open source drivers available. I'm planning on recording videogame footage and the like from my consoles to edit on kdenlive and upload it to ..... (why? Cuz it can be done. =P). So I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendation before I order one. I'm only interested in SD resolution for the time being.

So i saved my work with the program winzip. when i got home i put in my flash drive and asked Kubuntu to extract only to find i don't have a RAR program to extract so i asked to install one via the Kpackage Manager and everything seemed fine so i asked it to extract again and said cannot extract unknown file. so i went through the terminal to install again and to make sure they were no bits of the install missing and i got this.

1. loops through all subdirectories of a given directory
2. for each found subdirectory, first create an archive carrying the same name as the subdir itself
3. then moves the actual subdirectory to a different path
Here is what I have so far: my base dir is /home/bob/Bureau, and it contains two sub dirs, "florissant 86 a" and "saule 84" I would like to create one archive for each subdir in /media/public/atelierPhotoArchive and then move the folder entirely to /tmp/photo.write
Everything goes well until I have to either tar or loop through the file with spaces in names
This last statement outputs different lines after each space in my lst file
Question 1: Is it possible to make it output once for each line in the file ?
Question 2: Is it possible to do some exec tar in the find command? I had difficulties extracting the "short" name for the archive ("saule 84") without /home/bob/Bureau, it is possible only with the printf %f, but how in the world can I get this value in to the exec option ?

I wish to exclude some files from a zip archive. On other OSes to exclude an entire directory I would use the "-x" option like so:

zip -r archive-name * -x dir1/* Simple. And just add "-x"'s as needed (or use an exclusion file).
Not how it works here, it would seem. AFAICT all "-x" options are ignored. (The entries in an exclusion file also.) For instance, "-x diy/mplayer/*" should ignore everything in the <diy/mplayer> directory. It does not. I have tried fully qualified paths as well; no joy.
What is different about ZIP on linux?
I want to untar a package from one directory to another directory, directly from the command prompt. I want to untar the joomla package into the htdocs directory of xampp. How to do that directly from command prompt ? The reason i am asking this is if I try the "drag and drop" way, it won't be possible as xampp is stored in /opt directory and without super-user authentication nothing can be saved into it. You can argue saying that why did I untar xampp initially in su mode ,but that had to be done so that apache doesnt give me any start-up problems.

I recently downloaded a program to find out it was in pieces. What I originally conceived as being a small problem has turned into a major time wasting dilemma.
I've tried many different things to get it to properly extract, viewing threads on these forums even, but to no avail.
The files were named:
file.part01.rar
file.part02.rar etc.
I though this was the problem so I renamed all 84 files (except the first one), removing the .rar extension. No cigar.
My final attempt of several was using 7zip:

I was in the correct folder as far as I could tell.

I am trying to install MySQL, Apache, and PHP onto my Linux Ubuntu laptop from a cdrom that I got from a teach yourself MySQL, Apache, and PHP book I bought. First off there were two steps which i think i did right. The first was to mount the CD-ROM under /mnt in my file system which i did and there seems to be no problem except for the reply "mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only"
now first of all there are two things I need to explain, first of all I was superuser for all of this by using the command su at the beginning of my terminal session. Second of all the symbol "|" on my line of code above looks different from the symbol in the book. It should have a small space in the middle of it. However it looks like this on my keyboard so I am assuming it is simply a difference in text font. That is it, it would be really nice to figure out what went wrong because to be honest I am curious as to why the book is giving me code that gives multiple errors.
I have upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and I am using the classic ubuntu interface instead of Unity. I am facing problems with the Archive Manager. My problem is that I can open archives but I can not modify them or create a new zip file with the GUI. I get an error saying:
zip error: Invalid command arguments (no such option: -)
The easiest way to reproduce it is by right-clicking on any file, pressing compress and selecting .zip in the file format.
I'm not 100% sure if this is the right spot for it, but I'm having trouble unzipping files. I've downloaded a good few fonts from dafont.com, from different authors and with different browsers and I still get errors. First I opened the .zip with Archive Manager

As you may know JAR file are zip archive, therefor I can't set my Ubuntu to open (by defualt) JAR file with Java and ZIP files with Archive Manger.
