View 3 RepliesFor some reason I installed Volatile, as opposed to Testing... I have tried the change all Volatile to Testing process, and every time I do so, I end up with a non-working system. Is there some process I am missing in this? Here is my sources list:

I'd like to ask about archive mounter feature, can I mount zip file with read write mode? can gvfsd-archive do that?, or I must use fuse-zip to mount it? If I must use fuse-zip, how I wrap it so I can use it via nautilus or via gvfs-fuse-daemon

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running debian live off the cd to see if it fits my requirements. One of my pet peeves about ubuntu is the use of ctrl ctrl is hosed. the os does not seem to use it for anything, but no application can use it. This is the default for google desktop search, which is highly convenient. Seriously considering the move.I ran debian live and went to install the app. Message comes up archive type not recognised.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWith any download that i start (whether ftp/http/bittorrent/etc..) I get download speeds of no more than about 100 KiB/s...which is decent, but I usually I know my internet speed is max at about 600 KiB/s. If I go to Network Mananger (while a download is in progress), and click on my wireless network, it will disconnect, then reconnect, and I'll get download speeds of up around 600 KiB/s for a period of about 20-30seconds...then, I'm back down to the 50 KiB/s - 100 KiB/s.
Fedora can download at max speed for a little bit, but then goes down to about 100KiB/s for the rest of time (until I disconnect and reconnect again). Why does this happen, and how can I get my speed to stay at maximum potential? Also, Fedora 10 recognized my wireless network card when i had installed F10. But I'm worried that the best driver wasn't used for it. I've found my actual driver that I used on windows vista/xp, and installed that via ndiswrapper, but i don't think that ndiswrapper disabled my old driver... am i right about this? Maybe a solution to my problem would be to disable the driver that came preinstalled on F10, so it can use my newly installed one instead?
When I use the -p switch for the package p7zip-full (program 7z), it only password protects the extraction process but it still shows the list of files when you try to view the contents of the archive whereas the graphical compression utility has a feature to not show the list as well. I read the man page and can't find the feature for the CLI equivalent. how to do this using the CLI?

Today I downloaded the 6.0.5 netinst iso and burned a CD to install on a system which has only a CD reader, not DVD. The install goes fine until I select a download mirror. No matter what mirror I select, I get "Bad Archive Mirror".
When I check the log in virtual console 4, the following message appears: "WARNING**: mirror does not support the specified release (squeeze)"...

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I understand everything right I can use simple cd to create an install of my system then config everything and create an archive of /etc,/var,/usr and that give me a backup of my changed files. but what I am not able to do is create a script to replace the files with the archived version of the config files automatically. I need it to be ran as a post intall script or to configure the conf files as part of the install. what I configure on every reinstall. apache, proftpd, mysql, php, and wordpress. Since I am still learning I reinstall a lot and standard backups have not been working for me. But I can put the whole install including backup on one cd. Is there a way replace only the change files from the archive. or getting a list of just the modafied files on my system.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi need to build a pc, that allow to everyone to use it, and that does not "save" nothing (a guest volatile session)
i see the xguest package, looks good, but has 2 big problems:
1) seems not possible to customize the session (eg: modifying the home), and this one is not so a big one
2) is impossible to choose a localization: with the fedora login screen it is possible to choose the localization only after clicking on thje usernname, but using xguest, if i click on the username starts promptly the session
so i'd like to ask if is there any workaround for have that "volatile" and better if customizable home i thinked , IF possible to copy an home folder to /tmp (if possible and use the /tmp instead the home during the session, obv with enough available ram) OR copy a home from a user to the"GUEST" one at the start (boot, or login), then delete it at logout or turning off the pc
how to install Dropbox for Debian Squeeze from source. Please read everything before you begin. I prepared it as I installed Dropbox for my own system. Please Note: I use sudo, you may have to use root or 'su' from the command line. If you don't know the difference between sudo and su, then you shouldn't try this until you know. At the time I did this, the lastest dropbox version was 0.6.7.

su

I want to install Debian 5.06 64 bit on squeeze repo. Where can I find its netinstall ISO?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install a command line Debian Squeeze system on n Eee PC 701., but have run into a number of problems:
1) All install info I can find assumes that the person wants to install a GUI system of some sort.
2) The Eee PC has a unique 2 MB. partition that needs to be preserved, so no guided install.
3) The Eee PC has an SSD instead of an HD. Most postings I have seen recommend an install without a swap partition, but the install (both live and text) seems to choke and despite a fresh formatting of the existing partition, claims to be overwriting existing files.
4) I can understand from the wiki that the Eee PC wireless driver (Atheros) should be included in Squeeze, but when the wireless connection and password is added, the installer claims that the password is not correct, despite me having checked it a number of times.
I hope someone can help me out. I just want to use the Eee PC for low resource stuff done on the cli like using a text based web browser to access the net through a wireless router and to hook it up to an external USB HD and to my stereo, to play my music collection.
I installed Firestarter firewall on debian Squeeze. Now i note there is a gui available in System->Administration which apparently does not need to be running all the time - its not set up to start on boot. When I boot I notice the boot message has a line saying "Starting Firestarter firewall .... failed"When I am logged in and type "/etc/init.d/firestarter status" as the Firestarter FAQs say, I get"Firestarter is running... ... (warning)"I can run the gui manually and still same message.
