We are trying to install Oracle RPAS 13.1.1 on Redhat Enterprise 5 Linux Server, when we open the directory rpas/rpas/bin, the file DomainDaemon needed to start this server can be seen, but when we try to execute it as ./DomainDaemon it says "cannot execute Binary file", for that reason all files in this directory are giving same message .
We have tried the following :-
a) Given Execute permissions using chmod and run that.
b) Done file DomainDaemon to see if the file is corrupt.
c) Even tried executing using superuser account.
d) The OS and updates required as per Hw&Sw Requirements of RPAS 13.1.1 are there.
e) The directory has Execute Permissions

### TO DO: Determine the report file name based on the source directory name and current date### The report name and thumbnail directory must follow this pattern: source-%j-%H### for example, for pictures in /home/you/pictures, the file name will be: pictures-%j-%H### HINT: Use sed to extract the directory name from the path and combine it with date command output

So ive got a Suse server up and running. It is connecting to a clearcase server, so i want to mount the remote filesystem as part of startup, as this is generally rebooted when im not around.I would normally add something to /etc/init.d and put the shortcut to it in the appropriate runlevel (in this case 3). Tried that. Didnt work.
Realised the init script needed to have the LBS stuff at the start, so put that in, and used insserv to add the script. I used required-start set to $ALl.This successfully created the init script with S20, and i eneabled it with chkconfig.

We currently have a NFS shared Directory mounted as read-only on our server. This directory contains multiple sub-directories and files. It being read-only is a equirement. Now, we need a directory underneath to be read-write. Is there a graceful way to make that happen? Like a special mount option to use? Basically objective is: /u01 is mounted as read-only and has 3 directories: dir1, dir2, dir3 dir3 has 2 sub-directories- sub1,sub2/u01/dir3/sub2 needs to be read-write, while all other are read-only.

After upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10, the Ubuntu Software Center refused to start, and I got an icon in the notification area saying that "a problem occurred when checking for the updates." When I run software-center in the terminal, I get this error message:
Code:

from softwarecenter.app import SoftwareCenterApp
File "/usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/app.py", line 32, in <module>

I've tried re-installing apt and all related packages, even dpkg, and even downloaded the apt package directly from the ubuntu web site, but no matter what I do, I can't run these things. Aptitude and apt-get seem to work fine.

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
--Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g--
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
[code]....
Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.

I have a script which does the same job but at the same time it creates a new alert.log whenever any error occur. But I don't want the new alert log I wanted to read the same alert log daily and if any new error come should alert as email.

I am running a fairly new Debain Jessie stable installation with Xfce desktop. I need to use Xfce4 becuas the standard Gnome 3 does ot work when logging in with xrdp which I use becuase the actual box is headless.
I have an issue when starting synaptic. When I start it from the menu entry it just does not start. When I start from the terminal with
Code: Select allgksudo synaptic
I get an error box "Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file" At the same time I can see in the terminal window a message
"Error copying '/home/userxxx/.Xauthority' to /'tmp/libgksu-SwcIe0': File or Directory not found".
I assume it is related to that I use a rdp session to connect, but I am otherwise clueless.
Code: Select alluserxxx@server2>xauth
xauth: file /home/userxxx/.Xauthority does not exist

I am trying to install a program called libdvdcss0.0.1, it was a tar,gz2 file and I already extracted it via terminal to /opt/ but now that its extracted, I read the install readme file and tried going by those directions. Not working here is my results on that:
scott@Home:~$ cd /opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1/
scott@Home:/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1$ /configure --help
bash: /configure: No such file or directory
scott@Home:/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1$ configure --help
configure: command not found
scott@Home:/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1$ make install
cd extras/libdvdcss && make install
make[1]: Entering directory `/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1/extras/libdvdcss'
mkdir -p /videolan
m 644 videolan/dvdcss.h /videolan
make[1]: m: Command not found
make[1]: [install] Error 127 (ignored)
mkdir -p
mkdir: missing operand
Try `mkdir --help' for more information.
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1/extras/libdvdcss'
make: *** [install] Error 2
scott@Home:/opt/libdvdcss-0.0.1$
I don't know if its something I am doing wrong or what but everytime I try and install a file this way or by the programs readme file it always goes wrong in someway shape or form. The only way I have installed a program successfully is through kpackagekit and I am desperately trying to learn terminal's language here, the only thing standing in my way from switching from windows to linux entirely is these damn problems.

Ubuntu(10.04) was working fine, then some program crashed or something, and I just switched off (power offed) the computer. When I restarted it, this sort of stuff comes:
Code:
mount /dev on /root/dev failed : No such file or directory
and some more lines like that, and then 'Busybox' starts with [intramfs].I booted Ubuntu from a pen drive and ran fsck on the main partition. I just pressed 'y' for a long time (it asks stuff like should it continue repairing or something), and then it was done. I restarted the pc and it booted normally - it looked as if everything was fine.I started google chrome, and it said it couldn't find a personal config file .. ok. Then I tried opening a folder - nothing happens. The system monitor doesn't open, and windows that do open eventually are completely blank. I restarted the pc (this time by doing the normal restart), and it gave me the same 'Busybox' thing.I did the same procedure again, and got the same results. (ubuntu boots, programs dont work, then I restart and the Busybox thing comes again)One More Thing : The Ubuntu installed on the hard disk had all the recent updates (including the latest linux kernel) while the pen drive thing was around 2 months old I think. So maybe that's the cause?
