I downloaded a mouse theme form gnome look and installed it in the themes. But it has not appeared in the pointer themes section in custimation even though it said that it is installed correctly. When I drag the file to install it again it says something along the lines of it cannot copy a directory over a directory.Where can I find where the mouse/pointer theme is located and delete it. I have searched filesystem, google and these forums and not had any luck yet.

I downloaded it, is the intent that you just install all of the RPMs in the RPM directory? There isn't too much documentation yet.
I have a netbook with a tiny hard drive, and an external drive to go with it. It's running Ubuntu. I want to be able to install some packages to that external hard drive, so that when the hard drive is not plugged in the netbook still functions, just with out some functionality. It doesn't have to be this way exactly, I just want the effect of offloading some of my installed libraries and programs onto the portable hard drive. In other words, just mounting some directories from the external drive wont work because I at least need some basic programs to run normally.
Here are some things I was thinking about but wasn't able to find enough information to actually understand if they are feasible, or how to go about doing them.
Can I do something like this if I use the --root=/media/external switch of dpkg install and then add /media/external/ to my system path?
What if I create some kind of wrapper for dpkg that will install the package into an alternate root (--root=/media/external) and then create a symlink in the internal file system to every file that was just installed on the external file system?
How about something where I chroot into the external drive?
How about something using LVM?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 3 disks in my PC which are partitioned equally as I use them for Raid 1.The first partition on every disk is a simple ext2 partition for booting. No Raid there. So I mount them as /boot and /boot2 and /boot3. So I can backup my /boot to the other boot directories. That worked for some month and this morning I just want to look if all directories have enough free space left. So I did a df -h and got this:
Code:
Dateisystem Grove Benut Verf Ben% EingehÃĪngt auf
/dev/mapper/system-root
6,0G 301M 5,4G 6% /
udev 1,5G 292K 1,5G 1% /dev
/dev/sdb1 122M 29M 87M 25% /boot
/dev/sdc1 38M 21M 16M 59% /boot2
...
/dev/sda1 122M 29M 87M 25% /boot
As you can see /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 are both mounted on /boot
Here is what mount says:
Code:
/dev/sdb1 on /boot type ext2 (ro,acl,user_xattr)
/dev/sdc1 on /boot2 type ext2 (ro,acl,user_xattr)
...
/dev/sda1 on /boot type ext2 (ro,acl,user_xattr)
This is no Problem for me as I could just remount it correctly, but I would like to know if this problem is known. I did not change anything by now and this PC is a server which is running 24/7, so I can deliver more debugging Information if someone is interested.
I get this error when I boot opensuse default and fail safe. It takes me to a console log in, which works. This happened after new kernel install in Linux Mint, which is unbootable atm. I can boot windows, bsd but no Linux.
