Fedora :: How To Install From A .tar.gz - Navigate The Unix Terminal Directory

Im trying to install net-vi_2.2.1.tar.gz its my understanding that i need to navigate the Unix terminal directory to the either the tar.gz archive or extract the file to a folder and use that as the command directory for the terminal so my first question is how do i use that folder with the terminal? what command do i use?
After that i use the readme or install text file for the rest of the commands i need but im not sure cause ive never installed from tar.gz before
accidentally I raised my brightness to 100% so I couldn't see anything..My battery died before I could fix it with tab or something else.now I can't fix it because I can't see anything.Is there a way to adjust color brightness through my unix terminal.....?
I'm trying to mount a folder located at 10.0.0.1:/pxe/ on eth1 but I'm not sure how to do this with two NICs enabled. The command mount 10.0.0.1:/pxe/ /mnt/pxe/ works fine when I only am using the one NIC the appropriate machine is on, but how can I specify to use eth1 when eth0 is also enabled?
i'm trying to install the your-tube downloader so i can get stuff off videos again, but having trouble. the instructions say to open a terminal at the directory of the extracted files and run the yourtube-downloader file, but i don't know how to do that. i tried just opening a terminal and running it, but it doesn't work. how do i do this?

I am running shell command through C program using system() routine.
I am executing "opcontrol --status" an executable using the this routine and I get the following error. access: unix error (2) No such file or directory
But when I give the complete path to the executable it runs perfectly.
The executable is installed in "/usr/local/bin/" And the path variable has this path.
i have been using samba to gain access into windows computer through my pc which has fedora 8 ..can i access the unix machine from another unix machine? is yes then what is the procedures ?

I managed to connect with another computer. That computer has a /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 socket. Is there a way to create a socket on this computer?
I brought a computer online which is operated by Ubuntu and I know nothing about it. I had an HP printer that I couldn't get to function. I was told that HP didn't have drivers (or something like that) for Linux Ubuntu. I just brought a Lexmark which showed on the box was okay for Linux but when I load the installation disc I can't figure how to get to the "Welcome" screne and follow it through the installation. I do not kow computer terms (a newbie) and will need to be taken step-by-step through the process, if it's even possible.
I wanted to install this package to convert one Unix book into pdf. Since I have not set up the internet in the debian, I download the .deb files in winxp and transfer these files to my pen drive and then access it in the Debian. So I got all the 'depends' packages for the chm2pdf from the Debian Packages site and tried to install. Console was still asking for more dependencies. If I have got all the 'depends' packages which are required for chm2pdf, then why does it give problems ?
I run a minecraft server on my debian/gnome desktop and I need access to the files in the root folder and to the mysql folder but i cant log as root. i tried installing sudo and it didnt work. i know the su and su - but I want to change the files manually.
I'm very new to working with the terminal on my macbook pro and am trying to understand how to navigate into certain directories with it. I can't seem to get out of my username directory. I'm trying to access MAMP/htdocs and get those files into my git repository. I'm new to all of this. I am typing and getting this: David-Adamss-MacBook-Pro:~ davidadams$ cd Applications/MAMP/htdocs/barcodes -bash: cd: Applications/MAMP/htdocs/barcodes: No such file or directory I need to get the "davidadams$" out of that line but I don't know how to navigate out of it.
Whenever I enable the TOR network in firefox using the torbutton, everything stops working. Clicking on links won't take me to a page. It seems like I cannot navigate to any webpage when TOR is enabled.When I disable it everything works fine.
How can we install programs other than using the terminal. To be honest, I liked this system and I got used to it, but the problem is someone who wants to use Fedora but has no idea on how to use the terminal, so is there any other way for installing programs?
I did install Fedora 14 on my netbook (Asus 1001PX) a couple of weeks ago, it worked nice. But when i try to install .RPM packages the "normal" way so do i get stuck at the window where it says something like "Package Installed". No matter how many times i try to click on the "Close" button, so is the "Package Installed" window still open. Atleast i can install .RPM packages with the terminal.
I have a projet at university, and i need to install a rootkit or keylogger on the unix operating system, i have searched over the internet and i have found names of rootkits but i couldnt download or get the source code for the rootkit. Does anyone know where to find a rootkit or keylogger to use?

I would like to be able to move between several open windows on my desktop with my keyboard rather than my mouseThat is, to change the focus from one window to anotherI can do this with the icons on the desktop by using the up/down/left/right arrow keys on the keyboard, but how to do this for open windows?
I used to be able to open any folder in Nautilus and from there navigate to the parent folder. There was this arrow pointing up that had this function but I don't have the option any more.
I installed openjdk-6 on my ubuntu 9.10 system along the the documentation package and some other, related packages that looked promising but I cannot figure out how to access and navigate the documentation. (This is veering out of the scope of this forum but I also cannot figure out whether I have SJSXP installed or how to acquire and install it in case I do not.) Would one of you be gracious enough to help me figure this out so that I can get started?
I have just installed 10.04 LTS Wubi.The thing is, I can see no obvious way of seeing my files which were created in Windows e.g.Documents, photos etc. How do I navigate to the Windows documents from within Wubi?

I'm trying to install libreoffice following these instructions URL.. on F14.When I get to the bit 'right click..open with termial' I get stuck because I don't see open with terminal.Please can someone tell me how to open with terminal to complete the installation.I tried using rawhide to get libreoffice but it seems unavailable.
I am currently using Ubuntu 10.10 and am wanting to switch to Fedora 14. I have always loved the way Fedora looked and felt. So I am finally making the transition. But I am wondering does Wine work well with Fedora 14? If so how do I install through the terminal. I know it is the harder way but I find it gives me more customization. I prefer it, so what would the command be? With Ubuntu it is sudo apt-get install wine1.2 what is it in Fedora?
