Red Hat :: RHEL Authenticate To Active Directory Using LDAP

Apr 29, 2011

I manage to get RHEL Authenticate to Active Directory using LDAP and Kerberos. When a user authenticate to the Unix, the Unix system will check (using Kerberos) to the AD. However I just found out that when the RHEL (LDAP) did the authentication to the AD (to ensure that the RHEL has the right permission to query the LDAP database), it uses simple bind which send the username/password unencrypted over the network.

1) Can We use Kerberos as well? for the initial authentication described above?
2) If Not possible, is there a way to encrypt the username/password in the storage (ldap.conf -because it's world readble)? I know that for tranmission I can use SSL.

Server :: Authenticate A Group Of Servers Against Windows Active Directory?

Feb 26, 2011

We have a small group of linux servers, currently with local logins. I want to eliminate the local logins and authenticate against the corporate AD. I've been looking at PAM - but winbind requires each machine to be added to the AD. This becomes a pain if we create new virtual or physical servers. Is it possible to have one server authenticate directly with AD, and the other servers authenticate against this server, which defers to the one server that is registered in AD?

Ubuntu Servers :: Server 10.04 As LDAP Client Of Active Directory?

Nov 19, 2010

(This was posted at the end of another thread, where it probably didn't belong, so reposting here)I have Active Directory set up on one machine (and I can't really adjust the settings very much) and Ubuntu Server 10.04, which I would like to use as a client.I followed the directions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LD...Authentication, but when I get to

Code:
getent passwd
I don't see anything from the LDAP, and ssh'ing into the box from an LDAP/AD username certainly doesn't work.

In addition, I've attempted to use Webmin's LDAP Configuration module to configure it. I can connect to the server and can browse it with the LDAP browser with my settings, but the Webmin package doesn't recognize the users (which are organized in one of four Organizational Units (OUs) within the OU that I have as my Search Base) as users,

General :: Does Use Of LDAP To Communicate With Windows Active Directory Require PAM?

Jun 7, 2010

I want to use LDAP on SUSE 10 to authorize the use of certain objects within IBM's MQ Series via the setmqaut command. I do not want to authenticate these users to the Linux server itself via LDAP. Users that actually log onto the Linux server will be authenticated through a product from Quest formly known as VAS. My question is, does LDAP require the use of PAM or can I utilize the facilities within LDAP to communicate with a Windows Active Directory so that I can authorize the use of MQ Series objects and not authenticate actual users that would log onto the server.

Fedora :: Attach A RHEL/CentOS System To An Active Directory Domain?

Mar 22, 2009

Attach a Fedora/RHEL/CentOS system to an Active Directory DomainBelow is a step by step outline of how to configure a Linux Samba fileserver to use an Active Directory domain for authentication and authorization in place of flat files. Note that this configuration has been replicated using Fedora 10, RHEL 5.3 and CentOS 5 since they all more or less share the same code base.me of the example server in this document is erver1.domain.forest.org, substitute correctly where appropriate. At the very least following packages must also be installed:

sambasamba-commonsamba-clientkrb5-workstationopenldap-clientsIt would be prudent to understand the underlying concepts of how Kerberos and Samba work prior to deploying this type of server. I find that SE-Linux will interfere with Samba services, particularly with winbind. I usually set SE-Linux to be in a permissive mode. It is possible to update the SE-Linux policies but that is outside the scope of this document, i.e you're on your own. In some cases I turned SE-Linux off since it was causing winbind to stop responding.

1. Set NTP to use the correct server for your Active Directory domain:shell> system-config-timeSet the primary NTP server to be your domain/forest NTP server2. Make backups of and edit the following system configuration files:a. shell> cp /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.bakb. shell> vi /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver dns_server1_ip_address
nameserver dns_server2_ip_address

OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Get LDAP To Authenticate In 11.2

Nov 19, 2009

I had 11.1 for some time, was working fine. decided to upgrade... long story short - did a fresh install with livecd of the 11.2. I use ldap server for authentication, its on the lan. configuration during install goes through fine. fetch dn, etc... then after the bootup - authentication error for any user except root. At the same time automounter works fine, ldap requests are going through for hosts (my local hostnames are also on this ldap server), I can edit users through YAST when logged on this box, but alas! even for "su - user" I get "incorrect password", whereas if I am root, then "su - user" gets me logged in as user. password does not go through!

Ubuntu Servers :: LDAP Scripts Does Not Authenticate

Jan 3, 2011

Ldapscripts seems to be authenticating oddly but I am not sure why. Running 'ldapadd' works without issue:

<code>root@domainator:~# ldapadd -D cn=root,dc=example,dc=home -W
Enter LDAP Password:
<CTRL-D>
root@domainator:~#
</code>

However:
<code>
root@domainator:~# ldapaddgroup test
>> 01/03/11 - 22:16 : Command : /usr/sbin/ldapaddgroup test
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)
Error adding group test to LDAP
Error adding group test to LDAP
</code>

Here's various parts of my /etc/ldapscripts/ldapscripts.conf:
<code>
SERVER="domainator"
BINDDN="cn=root,dc=example,dc=home"
BINDPWDFILE="/etc/ldapscripts/ldapscripts.passwd"
SUFFIX="dc=example,dc=home" # Global suffix
GSUFFIX="ou=Groups" # Groups ou (just under $SUFFIX)
USUFFIX="ou=Users" # Users ou (just under $SUFFIX)
MSUFFIX="ou=Computers" # Machines ou (just under $SUFFIX)
GIDSTART="10000" # Group ID
UIDSTART="10000" # User ID
MIDSTART="20000" # Machine ID
</code>
/etc/ldapscripts/ldapscripts.passwd permissions are root:root, 0400 a

And I have quadruple checked my password is correct. Is there a way to print out debugging from ldapscripts so I know what commands it is generating?

Server :: Authenticate Samba Share Against LDAP (EDirectory)

May 5, 2010

I'm trying to set up a Samba share that's available over the network to a group of users in our institution. Our infrastructure is based on Novell Netware (slowly migrating to OES), and thus our authentication is managed by eDirectory. All our other shares are managed by Netware, but this one lives on a standalone Ubuntu server.

I've succeeded in setting up the share, and users can access it without a problem. The trouble is that currently it only works by treating all users as guest users and giving them the same privileges over the share. Is it possible to get Samba to authenticate users against eDirectory via LDAP? Would I have to get Ubuntu to authenticate against eDirectory, then Samba against Ubuntu, or can Samba do it directly? I've not really worked with LDAP before so I'm unsure where to start.

Networking :: Nscd: Nss_ldap: Reconnected To LDAP Server Errors RHEL 5.4

Nov 22 12:12:16 r01 nscd: nss_ldap: reconnected to LDAP server ldap://10.5.1.4 after 1 attempt This error is scattered through out my logs. We set-up ldap right in the GUI, nothing fancy.

RHEL 5.4, Basic install, again, nothing fancy. LDAP does seem to be working fine and allows the right people to login to the machine. We have two of these machines running and both are configured exactly the same and getting the same errors.

General :: Active Directory-LIKE Authentication ?

Jun 17, 2011

I'm actually a software developer, develop exclusively on Linux, and do know how to go about taking care of a Linux distro, so don't start telling me that 'sudo' isn't a sushi roll...

Question... I want to implement an Active Directory like authentication in a Linux-only environment. My office has approximately 15-25 local desktop PCs all running Ubuntu 10+ and one Ftp & SVN server running Ubuntu 10+.

Each developer has his/her own personal local account on his PC, and the shared PCs have different, local accounts for those developers. The FTP server has ONE (!!) account that everybody uses to access it, as does SVN.

The big picture is that I would like to install & configure a VPN server for remote developers. Before doing that, I'd like to find a way to unify the users across the network so that there exists only one UserX in the network.
