View 3 Replies View RelatedI really like using Audacious, but Rhythmbox (which isn't as horrible as iTunes, admittedly, but I still don't think much of that style of player) is set up as the default audio player on my laptop. I'm running Lucid Lynx on it. When I go to System > Preferences > Preferred Applications, Audacious doesn't come up in the drop-down menu under the Multimedia tab. Anyone know of any way I can change this from Rhythmbox to Audacious?

I`m using Fedora 11. I just bought a Creative Audigy Soundblaster sound card. It is recognized by the system, but I can`t make it play sound on all channels in xmms or mplayer. The alsa test confirms that all channels are working - I can hear sound from all of them. I have read several posts in other forums about modifying my ./asoundrc, but they just don`t seem to work.

I changed the default player for mp3 to audacious, which works fine, just that every time I doubleclick a mp3 file, a second application button appears in my taskbar saying "opening [file]" which looks like the default player. this program will eventually time out and go away, but it's still annoying - any idea on how I would go about fixing this?

My boot order has automatically changed, before I was booting Windows XP/ Vista as the default OS, now all of the sudden Fedora has become the default OS. So plz help me change the boot order. These are my grub settings at the moment.
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file

in maverick the default package installer (when I double click on a .deb) is Ubuntu Software Centre, how can I make the default package installer from lucid (was it called "dpkg"?) the default again? Ubuntu Software Centre is too slow and freezes every time I click on something, can it be replaced?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find a multimedia player that works well for me. With VLC, the screen with freeze up and then update itself later to the correct time but it changes to lots of strange colors. With Mplayer, the video will freeze and then catch up later, like VLC does. With Totem, I can't seem to get the subtitles to work correctly. It replaces the subtitles with a font of it's own. I always used Media Player Classic on Windows and it worked really well. When I say "freeze up and catch up later" I mean that the video and subtitles will freeze, but the sound will keep going. The video and subtitles correct themselves a few seconds later.
1. Is there a way to make it so VLC doesn't freeze up and catch up later with strange colors?
2. A way to make VLC and Mplayer not freeze and catch up later?
3. Get Totem to display the correct subtitle font?
I was wondering why VLC is not the default player for Ubuntu 10.10. Is it not good? Is the default one installed in 10.10 better?

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do I set VLC as the default DVD player in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS?There seems to be no obvious way to change in which player the DVD's open up in - you can only choose the default media player, but this is not what I want to do.I would like VLC as a default for DVD viewing only - I use Totem for other video files. I used Kaffeine for a while to play DVD's, but found VLC to be superior, especially in DVD menu support.
I know there are threads about how this is done in previous versions (like in 8.04 and so on), but I'm not sure if those still apply for 10.04? Through gconf-editor

I do have vlc installed. I can choose to play videos with it when I right-click video files. Is there a way to make it the default, so that when I double-click the vids, it will fire up automatically, instead of my having to use right-click/open-with ? I've tried changing it in the multimedia tab of 'Preferred Software', but that doesn't seem to work.
I would like to set xine as my default player for DVD playback and cannot figure out how. I have read other posts that state to right click on file>properties>open with but do not seem to have the open with option when right clicking a dvd that is in my dvd drive. I would also like to change the open with option in the right click menu. The current option is to open with movie player, and movie player cannot seem to find additional plug ins to open file with.
