Server :: Ldap Server Login Error When Logged In As Admin
Mar 23, 2010I am facing login issues when i try to login as admin using phpldapadmin into ldap server. Installed phpldapadmin for administering ldap server from the repository:
1)[url]
2)yum install phpldapadmin
Able to see the default phpldapadmin login page.
ldapadmin throws the error as "Bad username/password.Please try again"
But when i login as anonymous i am able to login but the web page asks whether to create the root domain?
whether anything needs to be done for making it login as admin.

Dec 21, 2010I setup logging in through putty client with keys, and password disabled, could log in from all machines on my network (xp and 7) with putty.When I finished hut down the server.Today I turned on the server box and thought I'd try logging in through putty. It kept telling me the server was rejecting my key.I plugged in a monitor and keyboard into the server and logged in via password then had no problem logging in through putty client.Question is, every time I shut the server down do I have to plug in the monitor and keyboard, then login, to be able to login remotely?

Oct 2, 2009I am using Fedora 10 .Generally to update I open a virtual console by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2,login as root and give the "yum update" command.Then I continue using my graphical terminal for other tasks from the 'non-root' account..Now my room-mate comes uses my 'non-root' account to browse web for few minutes and then opens a terminal types "halt", ENTER and viola...! My root account seems to be insulted by a 'non-root' user!.When I am doing updates or other important work as root any silly user can just 'halt' my computer. Nov 12, 2010Have recently setup Samba on a fresh install of Fedora 14 so that I can use it as a workstation in a Windows 2003 (win2k3) domain.
The install of Samba seems to have worked as I can connect to the Domain using ADS and kerberos. selinux and firewall have been disabled until I have it working 100%
The problem lies when i try to login to Gnome or TTY. It begins to create the home directory for the domain user logging in but after a certain process Fedora logs the user out of the system.
Have looked through several log files (/var/log/messages, log.winbindd, log.winbindd-dc-connect) but am unable to debug it any further.
Have posted the config files below which shows the Fedora machine is successfully connected to the domain as it lists its groups, users and validates logon credentials - it just won't logon!
Where i can go about debugging. Also if you need additional configs.

Jan 27, 2010I just installed Fedora 12 on a laptop. I changed the default shell on the root account to /bin/tcsh and changed the runlevel to 3 and then rebooted. Now I can't login into the root account: it returns me immediately to the login prompt and I can't see any error message (the screen is cleared).Why is this happening?Can I boot into some sort of safe mode so I can undo my changes to the /etc/inittab and /etc/passwd file?I tried booting with a Live CD with the intention of mounting the filesystem and making the changes, but the new filesystem is a LVM and it won't let me mount it (or I don't know how to mount a Logical Volume).

Jan 5, 2010I have a Red Hat 4 server with Sungard Luminis installed on it. I was following some instructions on setting up Luminis to start at boot. One of the steps was modifying the sudoers file. Since modifying the sudores file, I am no longer able to "su" to root when logged in as a normal user. When doing so, I get su: incorrect password after putting in the password. I have another server with the exact same setup, broken one is test, the other is production, that works just fine. I made no changes to my production server. I've been looking at different things all day and the only difference I have found between the two are the results I get from running rpm -q --verify coreutils. Running that on my prodution server returns nothing. Results from my test server are below. Is this what is causing my problems? If so, what's the fix? I haven't found that yet. I've checked /etc/pam.d/su, both servers are the same.

Nov 9, 2010I just installed debian 5.06 i386 130MB that I downloaded yesterday(Monday).My problem is that when an incoming ssh connection to this debian box is established, but nothing is being logged to /var/log/auth.log on this box. I've tail -f the auth.log which verified nothing is getting logged for ssh. The auth.log is showing activity, mostly root logins and logoffs, but no ssh activity.I understand that /etc/rsyslog.conf may control what gets logged. I had pastebinned this file on #debian but people noted that it looked fine.I have not made any changes to the system, like editing config files or anything. The system is essentially just out of the box.What else can I do to figure this out? Otherwise, I am pleased with how Debian installed on 2002 vintage machine, and is running in console mod

Mar 10, 2011I can use the accents (tilde, acute, ...) normally when I am the root, but when I log into my user account they re not recognized in most applications (opera, emacs, amsn, python idle,...) although they work in other applications (terminal, vim, iceweasel...). I guess that would have a simple solution. Something is right in the root account and wrong in my user account, but I cant figure it out. My layout is USA International (with dead keys).

Feb 18, 2009Fedora 9 and a maxtor 500gb external It seems i cant get the hd to initialize (not sure if thats the correct word for it) until I log in as root. I can see the icon on the desktop for it and everything, but when i double click on the icon nothing happens. It also doesnt appear in /media/. If I log out of the user account and log into root, all of the sudden i can open the icon in both root AND the user account. It also shows up in /media/. I'm not sure if its a permissions issue or something else.
ps: using ssh to log into root from another machine makes no difference though, only using X or whatever its called from the physical machine.

Jul 12, 2010i have fedora 7 server running just zimbra email server. but i forgot the password.
i used a livecd ubuntu then i went to /etc/shadow i used gedit and i remove the hash between the ": :" then saved file. i reboot but i still can not logging. and it does a weird thing. i wrote root then the i hit enter when ask for the password i hit enter. then the screen clean up by it self then it ask for logging again. It does nt say that the password is wrong or any other error.
also i went to single-user mode then once i m at # i wrote passwd root then new password then i reboot but i still have the same problem. i cant logging.

Jun 29, 2011on my netbook I've tried to make possible for my user to shutdown without needing a password. battery could run low when I'm not in front of it. Editing sudoers has allowed my user to shutdown the system, but Gnome still prompts me for the root password whenever root is logged in too. That's usually the case, because to avoid entering the root password multiple times whenever I need elevated privileges and not wanting to cache the root password, I keep a Root Terminal always open.

Samba server: I tried to create a Samba user named "root" with Windows user name "administrator". Message is something like "account already exists"? I know "root" exists, but why can't I use it as a login? I don't get this error when I use another existing user account "LouA".
This is important to me because many documents state that "root" is to be used as the user name. I don't want to change these.
Current set-up allows access to all users (there is no Samba user listed) and I can read, write and delete files from Windows just fine.
